Deploy Your Platform
Choose the right delivery model for your environment — NetBackup software on RHEL/Windows, the Flex Scale scale-out appliance, or Alta as a fully managed SaaS service with no infrastructure to operate.
NetBackup software installs on RHEL 8/9 or Windows Server 2019/2022 primary servers with minimal prerequisites. Flex Scale nodes are configured via a cloud-like web wizard. Alta activates through a browser — no servers or agents required.

Define Policies & Retention
Create backup policies that specify schedules, retention periods, storage targets, and encryption. Immutable WORM targets and multi-person authorisation policies enforce Zero Trust data protection at the policy level.
NetBackup policy templates cover VMware, Oracle, SQL Server, SAP HANA, and Kubernetes with pre-tested defaults. Immutability is enforced per storage target — WORM disk, S3 Object Lock, or the Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE). Multi-person authorisation requires a second admin to approve deletions.
AI Threat Detection
NetBackup continuously analyses backup telemetry with AI anomaly detection — monitoring change rates, backup sizes, and job behaviour. Statistically significant deviations trigger alerts, signalling potential ransomware activity before the backup chain is affected.
Anomaly scoring compares every backup job against a trained baseline for that specific workload. False-positive rates are minimised by per-policy learning windows. Alerts integrate with SIEM platforms via OCSF-formatted events. Backup Exec 22 includes the same anomaly detection for SMB environments.
Isolate for Recovery
When a ransomware event is confirmed, the Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE) provides a completely separate, air-gapped NetBackup domain where clean restore points can be validated and recovery operations performed away from the compromised primary environment.
The IRE is a separate NetBackup primary server deployed in an isolated network segment with no connectivity to the production environment. Clean backup data is replicated to the IRE during normal operations. Recovery is performed from the IRE and validated before reintroduction to production.
Recover at Any Granularity
Restore individual files, database rows, Oracle tablespaces, Exchange items, SharePoint pages, Salesforce records, or entire VMs and physical servers — all from the same unified console with full audit trail.
NetBackup Instant Access for VMware boots a VM directly from backup storage in seconds while a full restore runs in the background. Oracle, SQL Server, and SAP HANA support granular table/object-level recovery via native RMAN and Backint integration, without requiring a full database restore.
NetBackup Flex Scale
A scale-out hyperconverged backup appliance that combines compute, storage, and containerised NetBackup services on validated hardware nodes. Starting at 10TB, it grows to 2PB+ non-disruptively — just add nodes and the cluster auto-rebalances.
Erasure coding provides N+1 node-level resiliency, distributed deduplication eliminates the single-node bottleneck of traditional appliances, and the cloud-like web UI provides the same experience as SaaS — on-premises.
