Common questions

MacBook Air M5 vs MacBook Air M4 — worth the upgrade?

For new purchases yes, the M5 is the current generation. For existing M4 Air fleets, the upgrade case is weaker — same chassis, same display, same battery, similar CPU performance. The genuine differences are roughly 8× on-device AI throughput (matters if you use Apple Intelligence or local LLM tools heavily), 3rd-gen ray tracing, and Wi-Fi 7 via the N1 chip. For most knowledge-worker fleets the M4 Air remains adequate for another refresh cycle.

MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Pro 14 M5 — which?

Air is fanless, lighter, cheaper, and runs the same base M5 chip as the entry MacBook Pro 14. Pick the Pro if you need: ProMotion 120 Hz display, mini-LED HDR panel, HDMI out, SD card slot, sustained heavy compute, or M5 Pro / M5 Max silicon. Otherwise the Air is the right choice.

Is 16 GB unified memory enough?

For typical business work (Office, browser, Teams, light IDEs), yes — Apple's unified memory is more efficient than discrete x86 RAM at equivalent specs. For Docker + multiple VMs + memory-heavy IDEs / data work, 32 GB is the safer spec; not user-upgradeable after order.

What's the Apple N1 wireless chip?

Apple's first in-house wireless silicon, debuting in the M5 generation. It replaces the third-party Wi-Fi / Bluetooth combo chips Apple has used historically. The N1 supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Practical wins: faster connection where Wi-Fi 7 access points are deployed, more reliable Personal Hotspot tethering, slightly better AirDrop range.

AppleCare+ for Business — worth it?

For fleets, almost always — covers accidental damage protection, 24/7 priority support, and extends the warranty to 3 years. Cost-per-year is small relative to the device; Servnet adds it on most business quotes.
