Key Features

Everything you need in one device

🧠

Apple M5 chip

10-core CPU (4 performance + 6 efficiency), 10-core GPU with per-core Neural Accelerators. Roughly 8× the on-device AI performance of M1; 3rd-generation ray tracing.

📡

Apple N1 wireless chip

Apple's first in-house wireless silicon — Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) + Bluetooth 6 + Thread. Improves Personal Hotspot reliability and AirDrop range.

🪶

Fanless design

Same 13.6-inch sub-1.25 kg fanless chassis as the M4 Air — completely silent under sustained workloads.

🖥️

Liquid Retina display

13.6" 2560×1664 IPS at 500 nits, P3 wide colour, True Tone. 60 Hz (not ProMotion).

📷

12 MP Center Stage

12-megapixel webcam with Center Stage auto-framing and Desk View — designed for video-call-heavy hybrid work.

🔌

MagSafe 3 + 2× TB4

MagSafe magnetic charging keeps the Thunderbolt 4 ports free for displays / docks. Supports two external displays in clamshell mode.

🧠

Apple Intelligence

M5's per-GPU-core Neural Accelerators run on-device LLM features locally — writing tools, Siri 2, image generation, notification summaries.

About the MacBook Air 13" (M5)

The MacBook Air 13" with M5 is Apple's 2025-2026 refresh of its mainstream consumer-tier laptop. For UK business buyers it's the model most non-engineering knowledge workers should be issued by default — fanless, sub-1.25 kg, 18 hours of battery, and now meaningfully faster at on-device AI than the M4 generation thanks to the M5's per-GPU-core Neural Accelerators.

The chassis is unchanged from the M4 Air — same dimensions, same weight, same colour palette (Sky Blue, Silver, Starlight, Midnight), same fanless design. The differences are inside: M5 silicon with 10-core CPU + 10-core GPU, 3rd-generation ray tracing, and the new per-core Neural Accelerators that Apple positions as roughly 8× the on-device AI performance of the original M1.

The other significant change is wireless: this is the first MacBook to ship Apple's in-house N1 wireless chip, which adds Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6 support. In practice that means faster connection in WiFi-7-equipped offices (~2.4× of Wi-Fi 6E), more reliable Personal Hotspot, and better AirDrop range. The 12 MP Center Stage webcam, MagSafe 3 charging, and dual Thunderbolt 4 ports are unchanged from the M4 Air.

For UK business fleets, the Air is the right choice across most knowledge-worker roles — designers (non-pro), sales staff, executives, consultants, and developers who don't need M5 Pro silicon. The Pro line is justified only for sustained heavy compute, ProMotion / mini-LED displays, four-display setups, or HDR creative work. Servnet supplies through the Apple Authorised Reseller channel with VAT recovery, leasing, and AppleCare+ for Business uplift.

Use Cases

Ideal for a wide range of deployments

💼

Knowledge worker fleets

Default-issue Mac for non-engineering staff — silent, all-day battery, runs Office / Teams / browser / IDE comfortably.

🎓

Creative-adjacent

Adobe CC apps, Figma, light video review — handles most non-pro creative work without going to the Pro tier.

🤖

On-device AI workflows

M5's per-core Neural Accelerators run Apple Intelligence, on-device LLMs (LM Studio, Ollama), and ML inference at meaningfully higher throughput than M4 Air.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. MacBook Air M5 vs MacBook Air M4 — worth the upgrade?

For new purchases yes, the M5 is the current generation. For existing M4 Air fleets, the upgrade case is weaker — same chassis, same display, same battery, similar CPU performance. The genuine differences are roughly 8× on-device AI throughput (matters if you use Apple Intelligence or local LLM tools heavily), 3rd-gen ray tracing, and Wi-Fi 7 via the N1 chip. For most knowledge-worker fleets the M4 Air remains adequate for another refresh cycle.

Q. MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Pro 14 M5 — which?

Air is fanless, lighter, cheaper, and runs the same base M5 chip as the entry MacBook Pro 14. Pick the Pro if you need: ProMotion 120 Hz display, mini-LED HDR panel, HDMI out, SD card slot, sustained heavy compute, or M5 Pro / M5 Max silicon. Otherwise the Air is the right choice.

Q. Is 16 GB unified memory enough?

For typical business work (Office, browser, Teams, light IDEs), yes — Apple's unified memory is more efficient than discrete x86 RAM at equivalent specs. For Docker + multiple VMs + memory-heavy IDEs / data work, 32 GB is the safer spec; not user-upgradeable after order.

Q. What's the Apple N1 wireless chip?

Apple's first in-house wireless silicon, debuting in the M5 generation. It replaces the third-party Wi-Fi / Bluetooth combo chips Apple has used historically. The N1 supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Practical wins: faster connection where Wi-Fi 7 access points are deployed, more reliable Personal Hotspot tethering, slightly better AirDrop range.

Q. AppleCare+ for Business — worth it?

For fleets, almost always — covers accidental damage protection, 24/7 priority support, and extends the warranty to 3 years. Cost-per-year is small relative to the device; Servnet adds it on most business quotes.
