PowerEdge R330 support dates
| Milestone | Date | Basis | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| End of Life / End of Service Life (model-wide) | — | Not published by the vendorThe question asked for the end of life of the PowerEdge R330 (and R660/R760). The Dell reply said 'Dell no longer publishes EOL details for the Poweredge lines since about the 11th or 12th generation of servers'. A follow-up reply said 'You can find system specific dates if you go to the dell support page and enter the systems service tag.' In a Feb 2025 thread the same Dell staff member wrote 'As of about the 13th generation', so Dell's own forum answers disagree on the starting generation. These are forum answers, not policy documents. | Dell Community, Rack Servers 'EOL' thread: replies by DELL-Chris H (Social Media and Communities Professional, Dell Technologies | Enterprise Support Services), 2 Oct 2025 |
| Dell platform status: 13th Generation 'end-of-service status' (generation-wide, no date) | — | Vendor-publishedResolution section: '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status'. The KB gives no date and does not name the R330. Dell's 'PowerEdge: Servers by generation' KB 000137343 (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000137343) lists 'R330 Compute Intel 13 iDRAC8'. | Dell KB 000362511: Microsoft Secure Boot 2011 Certificate Expiration Impact on Dell PowerEdge Servers (modified 26 May 2026) |
| Platform status in Dell's Windows Server OS support matrix: '13G and older discontinued platforms' | — | Vendor-publishedThe R330 row is in the table headed '*** 13G and older discontinued platforms'. No date is given. | Dell PowerEdge / Microsoft Windows Server Operating System Support (LTSC) matrix (PDF, created 17 Dec 2025) |
| Warranty / support contract end | — | Not published by the vendorThere is no model-wide date. The per-unit date comes from the Service Tag lookup. | Dell KB 000132024: How to Find Warranty Status and Information for Your Dell Product (modified 30 Sep 2026) |
| iDRAC8 End of Sale (embedded management controller, not the server) | December 2021 | Vendor-publishedDell gives the month only ('December 2021'). Dell's definition: 'The last date to purchase a Dell OEM PowerEdge server with iDRAC firmware through Dell Technologies.' The KB is about iDRAC8, not an R330-specific notice. Dell's KB 000137343 lists the R330's remote management as iDRAC8. | Dell KB 000178044: PowerEdge: Support for Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 8 (modified 9 Sep 2026) |
| iDRAC8 End of Software Maintenance (embedded management controller, not the server) | February 2024 | Vendor-publishedDell gives the month only ('February 2024'). Dell: 'The last date for Dell iDRAC Engineering to release any software maintenance releases or issue fixes' and 'After this date, iDRAC Engineering is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware.' | Dell KB 000178044: PowerEdge: Support for Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 8 |
Where the PowerEdge R330 stands today
That October 2025 forum exchange answered an R330 question directly. The Dell staff reply said 'Dell no longer publishes EOL details for the Poweredge lines since about the 11th or 12th generation of servers', and a follow-up said system-specific dates come from entering the system's service tag on Dell's support page. In a February 2025 thread the same staff member put the change at 'about the 13th generation', so Dell's forum answers disagree on the starting generation; both are forum answers, not policy documents. Dell's documents that bear on the R330 carry no date either: the Secure Boot KB puts 12th and 13th generation platforms in 'end-of-service status', and the December 2025 Windows Server matrix lists the R330 under '13G and older discontinued platforms'.
Dell's dated milestones for the R330 are its iDRAC8 controller's: End of Sale in December 2021 and End of Software Maintenance in February 2024, after which iDRAC Engineering 'is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware'. That is the controller's timeline, not the server's. For a particular R330, read the Service Tag from the pull-out information tag at the front, or from the chassis sticker if there is one, and enter it at Dell's contract-services page for warranty status and expiry. Renewal enquiries go through Dell's extend-warranty form; Dell notes renewals are not offered in every country.
Dell ties support to each unit's Service Tag, not to the model. The R330 Owner's Manual says the Service Tag and Express Service Code are found on the front of the system by pulling out the information tag, or may be on a sticker on the chassis (https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-r330_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter the Service Tag at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see warranty status and expiry date. Dell staff gave the same advice for an R330 in October 2025. To ask about renewal, use https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/email/extend-warranty. Dell says 'Warranty Renewals are not available in all countries', and 'If you have purchased your products through a reseller partner, you may need to contact the reseller for renewal' (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).
What still works after Dell support ends
Dell says drivers and firmware for its servers are free to download, and that already-released iDRAC firmware stays available 'regardless of support contract', which makes 2.86.86.86, Dell's last iDRAC8 release, the ceiling for the R330's controller. DSA-2024-006 lists R330 BIOS releases before 2.20.0 as affected by CVE-2024-0161 and 2.20.0 or later as the remediation, so check a unit's BIOS level before a contract starts.
Two gaps will not be closed. Dell says 12th and 13th generation server platforms 'will not receive updates due to end-of-service status' for the Microsoft Secure Boot 2011 certificates, which Dell said would begin expiring in June 2026. By Dell's account an installed OS keeps booting with expired certificates, but Dell lists an 'inability to receive Secure Boot-related updates' among the effects. And the final OpenManage Server Administrator release, issued on 30 September 2024, supports only 14th, 15th and 16th generation servers, which leaves out the 13G R330; Dell points to iDRAC with the iDRAC Service Module (iSM) instead.
- Dell says PowerEdge drivers and firmware are free to download: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' (KB 'PowerEdge: Methods and Steps to Update Firmware and Drivers', modified 31 Aug 2026.) (dell.com)
- iDRAC8: 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.' Dell: 'The last release of iDRAC8 firmware is version 2.86.86.86.' Dell has no obligation to fix iDRAC8 firmware after February 2024. (dell.com)
- Dell security advisories are public. DSA-2024-006 (CVE-2024-0161; revision 1.0 initial release 2024-03-12, latest revision 7.0 of 2025-06-30) lists PowerEdge R330 BIOS 'Versions prior to 2.20.0' as affected and 'Version 2.20.0 or later' as the remediation. (dell.com)
- No Secure Boot certificate BIOS update is coming for 13G. Dell: '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status.' Dell's 'Server BIOS Update Guidelines for Microsoft Secure Boot Certificates' (KB 000402373, https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000402373) covers 14th to 16th generation servers only and has no R330 row. (dell.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge R330
Pin down power first. The R330 takes up to two 350 W Platinum redundant PSUs, and Dell's manual is explicit: two identical supplies are redundant (1 + 1), but 'when only one PSU is installed, the PSU configuration is non-redundant (1 + 0)'. Record the PSU count per Service Tag, because a single-supply unit has no failover for a service level to rely on.
Storage comes in three layouts: up to eight 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS, SATA or nearline SAS drives or SATA SSDs; up to four 3.5-inch cabled drives; or up to four 3.5-inch hot-swap drives, which can instead hold four 2.5-inch drives in 3.5-inch adapters. RAID is the PERC S130 software controller or a PERC H330, H730 or H830, and Dell's spec sheet lists a slot for internal storage beside the two PCIe 3.0 slots. Add four DDR4 UDIMM sockets (64 GB maximum), the single processor (Xeon E3-1200 v5 or v6, Core i3 6100, Pentium or Celeron), two 1GbE LOM ports and iDRAC8. Hardware break-fix support for parts like these generally means diagnosis, a replacement component and an engineer to fit it.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge R330?
Keeping an R330 on third-party maintenance makes most sense when both power supplies are fitted, the BIOS is at Dell's 2.20.0 remediation level or later, and the role does not depend on a current hypervisor. In the same October 2025 R330 thread, Dell staff wrote that 'it is pretty standard that a server can be warrantied up to 5 years from the ship date' (forum guidance, not policy), so check what Dell cover the unit's Service Tag still shows.
The operating-system position is what argues for refresh. Against the R330, Dell's Windows Server matrix carries ticks for 2019 and 2016 Essentials and Standard, but those versions have empty 'Support Level' cells, which the notes define as no support; Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2012 are the only versions marked 'Qualified'. Microsoft lists Windows Server 2019's extended end date as 10 January 2029, yet the 13G table has no 2022 or 2025 column. VMware is a harder stop: Dell's R330 supported-OS page ends at ESXi 6.7, which reached End of General Support on 15 October 2022 according to Broadcom, and the R330 is missing from the 13G table of Dell's vSphere 7.x matrix. The PowerEdge R340 is the next model in the same line, or compare refurbished Dell PowerEdge servers.
- Power redundancy depends on the build. The R330 supports up to two 350 W redundant PSUs, but Dell says that 'When only one PSU is installed, the PSU configuration is non-redundant (1 + 0).' Check whether a unit has both PSUs before quoting a redundancy-based SLA. (dl.dell.com)
- Windows Server: Dell's LTSC matrix (Dec 2025) lists the R330 under '13G and older discontinued platforms'. It ticks the Windows Server 2019 and 2016 Essentials and Standard edition columns (not Datacenter) and the Windows Server 2012 R2/2012 Essentials and Standard columns. Only the Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2012 'Support Level' cells read 'Qualified'; the 2019 and 2016 'Support Level' cells are blank, and the matrix notes say 'Blank cells indicate no support.' The 13G table has no Windows Server 2022 or 2025 columns, and the matrix says Windows Server 2022 and later require TPM 2.0, UEFI and Secure Boot. (dl.dell.com)
- Microsoft lists Windows Server 2019's Extended End Date as '1/10/2029 6:59:59 AM' (US month/day order, i.e. 10 January 2029 as displayed). Windows Server 2019 is the newest Windows Server in Dell's 13G matrix table and on Dell's R330 supported-OS page. (learn.microsoft.com)
- VMware: Dell's R330 supported-OS page goes up to VMware ESXi 6.7. The R330 is not in the 13G (yx3x) table of Dell's vSphere 7.x compatibility matrix (Rev. A14, June 2024; https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/vmware-esxi-7x_compatibility-matrix_en-us.pdf). (dell.com)
- Broadcom: 'The End of General Support for vSphere ESXi/vCenter 6.5,6.7 or vSphere vSAN 6.5, 6.6 and 6.7 is October 15, 2022'. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Secure Boot: Dell says 'Microsoft Secure Boot 2011 certificates begin expiring in June 2026' and '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status'. Dell: 'Expired certificates do not impact an already installed OS—those systems continue to boot'. Among the effects of expired certificates Dell lists 'Inability to receive Secure Boot-related updates' and 'Potential boot failures if Secure Boot is disabled or BIOS defaults are reset'. (dell.com)
- OMSA had its final release on 30 September 2024, and Dell says 'the last OMSA release only supports 14th, 15th, and 16th-Generation servers', so 13G is excluded. Dell points to iDRAC with the iDRAC Service Module (iSM) instead. (dell.com)
- CPU microcode servicing (v5): Intel ARK shows the Xeon E3-1220 v5, an example E3-1200 v5 SKU, with servicing status 'End of Servicing Lifetime' and an End of Servicing Updates date of 30 September 2022. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
- CPU microcode servicing (v6): Intel ARK shows the Xeon E3-1220 v6, an example E3-1200 v6 SKU, with servicing status 'End of Servicing Updates' and an End of Servicing Updates date of 31 March 2024. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
- Warranty length: in the same 2 October 2025 R330 thread, Dell staff wrote 'it is pretty standard that a server can be warrantied up to 5 years from the ship date' and 'That can be extended on some basis, but that is based on part availability.' This is a forum answer, not a policy document. (dell.com)
Keep your PowerEdge R330 covered

Related models
Dell's spec sheet compares the R330 with the previous-generation PowerEdge R320: DDR4 memory instead of DDR3, PERC9 instead of PERC8 and iDRAC8 instead of iDRAC7. That controller is the source of the 2021 and 2024 milestones above. Other 13G rack servers fall under the same generation-wide 'end-of-service status' wording, each with its own hardware; see the PowerEdge R630 end-of-life page and the PowerEdge R730 end-of-life page.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge R330
Is the PowerEdge R330 end of life?
There is no Dell end-of-life date for the R330 as a model. In an October 2025 reply on Dell's community forum to a question about this model, Dell staff said Dell no longer publishes EOL details for PowerEdge and pointed to the Service Tag lookup. Dell's Secure Boot KB places 13G servers in an undated 'end-of-service status', and its Windows Server matrix lists the R330 under '13G and older discontinued platforms'.
How do I check the warranty end date on my Dell R330?
Find the Service Tag on the pull-out information tag at the front of the server (Dell says it may instead be on a chassis sticker), then enter it at Dell's contract-services page. Dell shows the warranty status and expiry date for that unit only. Renewal requests go through Dell's extend-warranty form, though Dell says renewals are not available in all countries.
Does the R330 still get iDRAC8 firmware updates?
Dell names 2.86.86.86 as the last iDRAC8 firmware release, and its iDRAC8 End of Software Maintenance was February 2024, after which Dell is no longer obliged to maintain or repair that firmware. Already-released iDRAC firmware remains downloadable regardless of support contract. These dates cover the management controller only, not the R330 as a whole.
What came after the Dell R330?
The PowerEdge R340 is the next model in the same line. Going the other way, Dell's R330 spec sheet names the PowerEdge R320 as the previous generation. Neither relationship changes your own R330's position, which still comes from its Service Tag.
Is there an alternative to Dell ProSupport for an R330?
Third-party maintenance is one alternative once a unit's Dell cover has lapsed or is not offered, and it generally provides diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits. A quote should state whether each R330 has one or two power supplies and which PERC controller it uses. An alternative to Dell ProSupport explains how that cover is usually arranged.
