Where the PowerEdge R6525 stands today
In Dell's Hardware Release and End of Service Life Notifications spreadsheet (KB 000185734, current as of 2 October 2026), the R6525 name appears only in the PowerFlex range. Two rows carry it, the 'PowerFlex Appliance R6525' and the 'PowerFlex custom Node R6525', and both run from an RTS of 1 November 2021 through an EOL of 4 November 2024 to an EOSS of 30 November 2029. Those milestones apply to PowerFlex. The PowerEdge R6525 server itself has no row, and Dell publishes neither an end-of-sale nor an end-of-service-life date for it.
What decides the position of a working R6525 is its Service Tag, which Dell's R6525 Installation and Service Manual places on the information tag on the server's front. Type it into Dell's contract services page and Dell returns that unit's warranty status and expiration date, as KB 000132024 describes. Each R6525 needs its own lookup. For the rest of the estate, see the server end-of-life checker.
Dell publishes no model-wide end-of-support date for PowerEdge servers; coverage ends per unit. Read the Service Tag from the information tag on the front of the server (Dell R6525 Installation and Service Manual: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-r6525_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter it at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see that unit's warranty status and expiration date (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).
What still works after Dell support ends
KB 000128194 (last modified 31 August 2026) covers all drivers and firmware for Dell servers, BIOS included, and describes them as 'available to download for free on the Dell Support website', with no warranty or contract condition stated. Dell is still releasing firmware for the R6525: its download page carries 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R6525/R7525 Version 2.25.1', which Dell rates Recommended and dates 30 September 2026, and iDRAC 7.30.30.54, rated Urgent with a 21 August 2026 date. Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 (last modified 10 September 2026) leaves the R6525 out of its model-to-latest-version table, though it lists the R6515, R7515, R7525 and C6525, so confirm the current build on the R6525's own download page.
Dell KB 000132024 describes renewal as extending cover for repairs or replacement parts on Dell-branded hardware, available per Service Tag in some countries but not all, and for an R6525 bought from a reseller, renewal may have to be arranged through the same reseller. For how cover outside Dell is usually structured, see what third-party maintenance covers.
- Dell KB 000128194 (last modified 31 Aug 2026) says: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' The KB defines firmware as including the BIOS. It states no warranty or contract condition. (dell.com)
- Dell is still releasing firmware for the R6525. Its Drivers & Downloads page lists 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R6525/R7525 Version 2.25.1' (Recommended, 30 Sep 2026) and 'iDRAC 7.30.30.54' (Urgent, 21 Aug 2026). (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 Version 7.20.80.50 release notes (Rev. A00, December 2025) list the PowerEdge R6525 among the supported '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers'. (dl.dell.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Dell warranty renewal (per Service Tag, where offered) — Dell: 'Dell warranties can be renewed to cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts.' 'Warranty Renewals are not available in all countries.' Units bought through a reseller may need renewing through that reseller. (dell.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge R6525
The R6525 fits two processors and 32 DIMM sockets into 1U, with memory at up to 3200 MT/s. On the memory ceiling, two Dell documents give different answers: the Technical Specifications (Rev. A09, August 2022) give a two-processor maximum of 2 TB with 64 GB RDIMMs and 4 TB with 128 GB DIMMs, while the Technical Guide says '2 TB of memory'. Schedule the DIMMs actually fitted rather than either maximum. Drive bays come as four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA, eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA, ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe, or ten front plus two rear 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe.
Storage control comes from the PERC H755N, H745 or H345, the HBA345 or HBA355, S150 software RAID, or a BOSS-S1 or BOSS-S2 (2 x M.2), with the PERC H840, HBA355E and a 12 Gbps SAS HBA for external storage. Networking is an embedded LOM with two 1 GbE ports plus an optional OCP 3.0 (SCFF) NIC slot, whose options include four-port 1 GbE, two-port 10 GbE, two- or four-port 25 GbE and two-port 50 GbE; Dell supports no LOM riser on this model. The server takes up to two power supplies: 800 W or 1400 W Mixed Mode Platinum, 1100 W Mixed Mode Titanium, or 1100 W -48 to -60 V DC, with the Mixed Mode units also able to run on 240 V DC. Contracts for server third-party maintenance generally take in diagnosis, parts and engineer visits across components like these and the iDRAC9 controller.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge R6525?
An R6525 is a candidate for extension when it runs current firmware and an operating system Dell lists as supported for the model. Among the entries on that list: the 2016, 2019 LTSC, 2022 LTSC and 2025 LTSC releases of Windows Server; VMware ESXi from 6.5 up to 9.0, with 'ESXi 9.1 - U1' also listed; RHEL 7/8/9 and SLES 15; and Ubuntu 18.04/20.04/22.04 plus 'Ubuntu Server 24.04 - U3'. Dell has published no model-wide end date and lists 2026 BIOS and iDRAC releases for the model, so when its warranty ends an R6525 in that state can move to hardware break-fix support, which generally provides diagnosis, parts and engineers.
Two firmware points come first. With Microsoft's 2011 Secure Boot certificates set, in Dell's words, to 'expire starting June 2026', a start that has now passed, Dell lists 15th Generation server platforms, the generation its iDRAC9 notes put the R6525 in, among those affected, and KB 000402373 puts the minimum R6525/R7525 BIOS carrying the updated certificates at 2.22.0. The iDRAC 7.30.30.54 build is rated Urgent. Replacement is the better route when a workload has outgrown two processors, 32 DIMM sockets and ten front drive bays in 1U, or needs an operating system missing from Dell's list; in that case, look at the PowerEdge R6625 as the next model in the same line.
- Dell's R6525 Drivers & Downloads page offers iDRAC 7.30.30.54, rated 'Urgent' and dated 21 Aug 2026. Check the iDRAC build on any R6525 you plan to keep in service. (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 (last modified 10 Sep 2026) leaves the PowerEdge R6525 out of its model-to-latest-version table, though it lists the R6515, R7515, R7525 and C6525. Use the R6525's Drivers & Downloads page for the current iDRAC9 build. (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 7.20.80.50 release notes (December 2025) list the R6525 under '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers'. (dl.dell.com)
- Secure Boot certificate rollover: Dell says Microsoft's 2011 Secure Boot certificates 'expire starting June 2026'. It names 14th, 15th and 16th Generation server platforms as affected. (dell.com)
- Dell KB 000402373 (last modified 23 Jun 2026) gives BIOS 2.22.0 as the minimum R6525/R7525 BIOS that includes the updated Microsoft Secure Boot certificates, and says newer BIOS versions also include them. (dell.com)
- Dell's supported-OS list for the R6525 includes Windows Server 2016, 2019 LTSC, 2022 LTSC and 2025 LTSC; VMware ESXi 6.5 to 9.0 (plus an 'ESXi 9.1 - U1' entry); RHEL 7/8/9; SLES 15; Ubuntu 18.04/20.04/22.04 and 'Ubuntu Server 24.04 - U3'. (dell.com)
- Scope trap: Dell's hardware EOSL spreadsheet has rows for 'PowerFlex Appliance R6525' and 'PowerFlex custom Node R6525' (RTS 2021-11-01, EOL 2024-11-04, EOSS 2029-11-30). Those are PowerFlex products, and the dates do not apply to a general-purpose PowerEdge R6525 server. (supportkb.dell.com)

Related models
Dell announced the R6525 on 17 September 2019 as one of 'Five all-new PowerEdge servers' built for 2nd Gen AMD EPYC, and gave its planned worldwide availability, shared with the C6525, as October 2019, month only. On firmware it is paired with the R7525: the BIOS is published as 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R6525/R7525', and Dell's Secure Boot KB sets one 2.22.0 minimum for both. Its predecessor in Dell's R6525 Technical Guide comparison is the single-socket 1U PowerEdge R6415. A different PowerEdge model is covered at PowerEdge R430 end of life.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge R6525
Is the PowerEdge R6525 EOL?
Dell has published no model-wide date that would make it so: its hardware EOSL spreadsheet has no end-of-sale or end-of-service-life row for the PowerEdge R6525 server. Its support ends per Service Tag, and the R6525's Drivers & Downloads page carries BIOS and iDRAC releases from 2026.
Why does Dell's spreadsheet show an R6525 end-of-life date of 4 November 2024?
Those rows are PowerFlex products. 'PowerFlex Appliance R6525' and 'PowerFlex custom Node R6525' carry an EOL of 4 November 2024 and an EOSS of 30 November 2029, and those dates do not apply to a general-purpose PowerEdge R6525 server.
Where do I find the latest iDRAC firmware for the R6525?
Use the R6525's own Drivers & Downloads page on Dell Support, which lists iDRAC 7.30.30.54 (Urgent, 21 August 2026). The iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 omits the R6525 from its model table, so it gives no reading for this server.
Which model comes after the Dell R6525?
The PowerEdge R6625 follows it as the next model in the same line, whereas Dell's R6525 Technical Guide looks the other way, with a product-comparison table against the earlier PowerEdge R6415. Before moving, check whether two sockets and 32 DIMM sockets in 1U still fit the workload.
What should an R6525 maintenance quote include?
Once Dell's warranty on a unit has ended, third-party contracts generally cover diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits. An R6525 quote should state the OCP NIC, the PERC or HBA, any rear drive bays and the PSU type, including whether it is the -48 to -60 V DC unit.
