Where the ProLiant DL180 Gen10 stands today
HPE publishes no dated lifecycle milestone for the DL180 Gen10. On 8 October 2026 HPE Support Center's search index returned only two PCNs naming it, and both are platform-wide software notices rather than server ones: the Scripting Toolkit EOL (a00131404) and the iLO Amplifier Pack / InfoSight discontinuation (a00133620). The model's off-sale status comes instead from QuickSpecs a00021862enw, whose undated RETIRED banner says the base products 'are now considered obsolete and are no longer available for sale'. With no server EOL notice found, there is no EOL, DISC or obsolescence date to quote.
Coverage is therefore a per-unit question. In HPE Warranty Check, which needs an HPE Support Center sign-in, submit the serial number from the product label; each service type is listed with its start and end dates and marked Active, Expiring Soon when fewer than 90 days remain, Expired when it ended within the past year, or Active in Future. A third-party tracker, eosl.date, shows 31 October 2029 in its 'End of Support' column for the DL180 Gen10, but that is not an HPE date and it repeats on 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows, so treat it with caution; Park Place has no EOSL page for the DL180.
HPE publishes no model-wide support end date for the DL180 Gen10; support ends per unit. To find a unit's dates: (1) Open HPE Warranty Check at https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc and sign in to the HPE Support Center. (2) Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list every service type with its start and end dates and a status: Active (more than 90 days left), Expiring Soon (under 90 days), Expired (ended less than a year ago) or Active in Future. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends
HPE notice a00094704 (version 2, dated 13 January 2025) names the DL180 Gen10 among the platforms whose downloads no longer need entitlement verification: Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 and ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware both download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement, licence terms still applying. HPE's support guide for SPP 2026.07.00.00, a PDF created on 5 August 2026, lists the 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10/DL180 Gen10 (U31) Servers, v3.66_04-01-2026'.
Two caveats apply. HPE's SPP validation note points the other way: that document, undated in its text though its PDF was created on 27 February 2017, requires an active warranty or HPE support agreement for the SPP and refers out-of-coverage SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD requests to HPE sales or a partner, while exempting security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers; we have not picked between the two documents. Separately, we found no current HPE source confirming that HPE post-warranty or extended support can be bought for the DL180 Gen10. HPE third-party maintenance is one way to keep the server covered once its HPE dates pass, typically through fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer attendance.
- HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says no contract is needed for the Gen10 SPP or System ROM. Entitlement verification is no longer required for Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) or ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware. Both download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement. The notice lists the DL180 Gen10 among the affected platforms. Licence terms still apply. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's documents CONTRADICT each other on this point. HPE's 'SPP Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note (no date in the text; PDF created 27 Feb 2017) says the SPP needs an active warranty or HPE support agreement. It sends out-of-coverage requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD to HPE sales or a partner. The same note says security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers need no entitlement. We record both statements without picking between them. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 Release Notes (the document says 'Published: August 2026'; HPE Support Center dates it 7 Aug 2026) say both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in'. This page states no warranty or contract requirement. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's 'Gen10/Gen10 Plus Service Pack for ProLiant 2026.07.00.00 Server Support Guide' (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10/DL180 Gen10 (U31) Servers, v3.66_04-01-2026'. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL180 Gen10
Start a DL180 Gen10 contract with its drive layout. The 2U chassis was offered as 8 SFF (upgradeable to 24 SFF), 8 LFF or 12 LFF, and a dual SFF rear drive option takes an SFF build to 24 + 2 drives. Every model includes HPE S100i embedded software RAID for 14 drives, which has to be enabled with option 784308-B21, so record whether S100i is enabled and how many bays are populated. Compute is up to two first- or second-generation Xeon Scalable processors on the Intel C622 chipset, with 16 DIMM slots holding up to 1.0 TB of DDR4 Smart Memory; RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cannot be mixed.
Power comes from one or two HPE Flex Slot hot-plug supplies, with a 1600 W option on this model: 500 W Platinum; 800 W Platinum, Titanium, -48 VDC or universal high-voltage; or 1600 W Platinum. Each Flex Slot supply depends on the 866442-B21 DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit being fitted, and mixing two different supplies in one server is not supported. Add the iLO 5 management ASIC, then list drives, supplies and processors in the maintenance coverage builder when asking for a quote.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL180 Gen10?
Extending a DL180 Gen10 on maintenance makes sense while the platform stays certified. HPE's Windows Server matrix lists it from Windows Server 2012 R2 through 2025, its VMware matrix lists ESXi 8.0 to 8.0 U3 and ESX 9.0 and 9.1, and HPE's August 2026 SPP still includes its U31 System ROM. Memory spares have to follow the processor generation already fitted: HPE supports DDR4-2933 kits with second-generation Xeon Scalable only, and DDR4-2666 with first-generation only, and does not support field upgrades from first- to second-generation processors.
The limits come from VMware. Under Broadcom KB 318697, Cascade Lake CPUs (Platinum 8200, Gold 6200/5200, Silver 4200, Bronze 3200) are 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x, a mode the KB says is still supported, and will be 'Discontinued' in a future major release. KB 428874, in its update note of 18 September 2026, limits first-generation Skylake-SP to Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x and will not extend that past 9.x. HPE names no successor for the DL180 Gen10, so a refresh means choosing another platform; the refurbished ProLiant configurator is one way to compare that against another maintenance term.
- HPE's Windows Server certification matrix (Current Products) lists the DL180 Gen10 for Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, with no installation notes. Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- HPE's VMware ESXi support matrix lists the DL180 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2 and 8.0 U3, and for ESX 9.0 and 9.1. The installation note links Broadcom KBs 318697 and 428874 and says 'HPE will continue to support server with Skylake processor as mentioned in your support contracts.' Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- Broadcom KB 318697 marks Cascade Lake Xeon Scalable CPUs (Platinum 8200, Gold 6200/5200, Silver 4200, Bronze 3200) 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. The KB says Deprecated mode is still supported. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Broadcom KB 428874 (update note dated 9/18/2026) supports Skylake-SP (1st-gen Xeon Scalable) only in Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x and says this 'will not be extended to VCF releases beyond VCF 9.x'. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Memory spares must match the processor generation. HPE's QuickSpecs says DDR4-2933 kits are supported only with 2nd-gen Xeon Scalable processors, and DDR4-2666 kits only with 1st-gen. (support.hpe.com)
- Standard warranty is 3 years parts, 3 years labour and 3 years onsite support, with next-business-day response. Warranty end dates vary by serial number. (support.hpe.com)

The DL180 Gen10 is paired with the DL160 Gen10 in HPE's paperwork: one U31 ROM flash package serves both servers, and the 866442-B21 enablement kit carries both model numbers. Before it came the DL180 Gen9, the previous generation in the same line. Owners who also run DL380 Gen9 servers can check the ProLiant DL380 Gen9 end-of-life page, and those with other Gen10 rack servers, such as the ProLiant DL360 Gen10, will find each model's position set out separately.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL180 Gen10
Is the ProLiant DL180 Gen10 discontinued?
HPE no longer sells it: the retired QuickSpecs say the base products are obsolete and no longer available for sale. That status carries no date. When HPE Support Center's index was searched on 8 October 2026 it returned no EOL notice for the model, and HPE publishes no end-of-support date for it either.
What is the DL180 Gen10 end-of-support date?
HPE publishes none for the model as a whole. Support ends per unit, and HPE Warranty Check shows the dates for each serial number, basing expiry on the purchase date for registered units and estimating it from the manufacture date otherwise. eosl.date, a third-party tracker, lists 31 October 2029, which is not an HPE date and repeats across 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows.
Does the DL180 Gen10 support Windows Server 2025 and VMware 9?
HPE's certification matrix lists it for Windows Server 2025, and HPE's VMware matrix lists it for ESX 9.0 and 9.1. Broadcom treats both Xeon Scalable generations as Deprecated in 9.x: Skylake-SP support will not be extended beyond VCF 9.x, and Cascade Lake is due to be Discontinued in a future major release.
Can I download DL180 Gen10 firmware without a support contract?
For System ROM/BIOS firmware and Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 onwards, HPE notice a00094704 says an HPE Passport account is enough, and it lists the DL180 Gen10; licence terms still apply. HPE's earlier SPP validation note, by contrast, ties SPP downloads to an active warranty or support agreement, and the 2026.07.00.00 release notes say only that both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in'; your own account will show which applies.
What should a DL180 Gen10 maintenance quote list?
A quote can be requested. Give the drive layout (8 SFF up to 24 + 2 SFF, 8 LFF or 12 LFF), whether S100i RAID is enabled and the supplies fitted, so the contract lists the right parts. What third-party maintenance covers explains the general scope.
