Where the ProLiant DL20 Gen10 stands today
The DL20 name is easy to confuse. The Gen10 Plus, a separate model, has an HPE EOL notice (PCN a00136611) with an EOL notification date of 1 January 2024 and a DISC date of 30 June 2024; those dates should not be read across to the DL20 Gen10. For the DL20 Gen10 itself, HPE Support Center searches on 8 October 2026 found no model-specific EOL notice, and the retired QuickSpecs (V25, 18 March 2024) carry a banner calling it obsolete and no longer available for sale, with no date attached.
Coverage is per unit. Warranty Check in the HPE Support Center, once you sign in, takes the serial number from the product label and returns each service type's coverage dates with a status of Active, Expiring Soon (under 90 days), Expired or Active in Future; registered products expire on a purchase-date basis, and others on an estimate from the manufacture date. Expect variation between units: the QuickSpecs 'What's New' notes that the warranty was increased from one year to three years for parts, labour and onsite, so early DL20 Gen10 units may carry a shorter HPE warranty. A third-party tracker, eosl.date, lists 31 October 2029 as End of Support, but the same row gives a release date of 1 July 2017, whereas HPE's first DL20 Gen10 QuickSpecs revision is dated 5 November 2018, which casts doubt on the row.
Support end dates are per unit, and HPE publishes no model-wide date for the DL20 Gen10. Use HPE Warranty Check at https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc: sign in to the HPE Support Center, enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit to see coverage dates and status for each service ('Active', 'Expiring Soon' within 90 days, 'Expired', or 'Active in Future'). HPE bases warranty expiry on the purchase date if the product was registered; otherwise it estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends
HPE has kept System ROM updates coming for the DL20 Gen10 without a contract requirement. Notice a00094704 (version 2, 13 January 2025) dropped the entitlement check on Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) and System ROM firmware, lists the DL20 Gen10 among affected platforms, and requires only an HPE Passport account, with no active warranty or support agreement. The support guide for SPP v2026.07.00.00 (created 5 August 2026) includes 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 (U43) Servers, v3.76_05-28-2026'.
On the hardware side, HPE post-warranty support for this model is not confirmed by any current HPE document we found, so put the question to HPE with the serial number in hand. Independent server third-party maintenance generally covers fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits regardless of where a unit's HPE dates fall.
- No contract needed for Gen10 BIOS/SPP. HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) removes entitlement verification for Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) and System ROM firmware; these download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement. The DL20 Gen10 is on the list of affected platforms. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's 'Service pack for HPE ProLiant Gen10 and 10 Plus, v2026.07.00.00' support guide (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 (U43) Servers, v3.76_05-28-2026'. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL20 Gen10
The DL20 Gen10 is a 1U, single-processor server. The final QuickSpecs lists Xeon E-2200 processors of up to 8 cores, 9th Gen Core i3 and Pentium G; memory is four DDR4 unbuffered UDIMM slots across two channels, to a maximum of 64 GB (4 x 16 GB at 2666 MT/s). Storage came as 4 SFF hot-plug bays (with a +2 SFF option for six), 2 LFF hot-plug or 2 LFF non-hot-plug, plus an optional M.2 boot SSD. All three chassis use three single-rotor fans that are neither hot-plug nor redundant, so a fan cannot be replaced while the server is running.
Supplies differ by region. The 290 W unit is non-redundant and came as P06731-B21 (92%) or P21649-B21 Platinum (94%); the other options are the HPE Flex Slot 500 W Platinum hot-plug and an 800 W -48 VDC Flex Slot. For UK and EMEA spares, the QuickSpecs say that from 1 March 2020 only the 290 W Platinum (P21649-B21), 500 W and 800 W supplies meet EU Lot 9 for CE marking; non-EMEA pre-configured builds kept the P06731-B21 unit, and HPE does not recommend transferring those units into EMEA. Management is through the iLO 5 ASIC, with a dedicated iLO port available as an option kit. Give these part numbers when you use the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL20 Gen10?
For the DL20 Gen10, Windows Server support is the clearest planning limit. HPE's Windows Server certification matrix lists it for Windows Server 2016 and 2019 only, not 2022 or 2025. For Windows Server 2019, Microsoft's lifecycle page shows mainstream support ended on 10 January 2024 and gives an extended end date of 10 January 2029. A DL20 on Windows Server 2019 can reasonably stay on hardware maintenance while that date is ahead, with System ROM and SPP updates still available from HPE.
Beyond January 2029, or on VMware, the case for refresh strengthens. HPE's VMware matrix lists the DL20 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0 to 8.0 U3 and ESX 9.0/9.1, but Broadcom KB 318697 marks the Xeon E-2200 series 'Deprecated' in 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. The next model in the same line, the DL20 Gen10 Plus, is itself end of life, and HPE PCN a00143611 schedules EOL-A for the DL20 Gen11 on 1 August 2027 with DISC on 31 January 2028. A replacement can be costed in the refurbished ProLiant configurator and weighed against a further maintenance term.
- HPE's Windows Server certification matrix lists the DL20 Gen10 for WS2016 and WS2019 only. It does not list WS2022 or WS2025. (hpe.com)
- For Windows Server 2019, the newest Windows Server HPE lists for this model, Microsoft's lifecycle page gives an Extended End Date of 1/10/2029 6:59:59 AM. Mainstream support ended 1/10/2024. (learn.microsoft.com)
- HPE's VMware matrix lists the DL20 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0 to 8.0 U3 and ESX 9.0/9.1. It points to Broadcom's CPU-deprecation KBs. (hpe.com)
- Broadcom KB 318697 marks the Xeon E-2100 and E-2200 (Coffee Lake / Coffee Lake Refresh) 'Deprecated' in 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Spares note for the UK/EMEA: from 1 March 2020, only the 290 W Platinum (P21649-B21), 500 W and 800 W supplies meet EU Lot 9 for CE marking. Non-EMEA pre-configured builds kept the P06731-B21 290 W unit, and HPE says it does not recommend transferring those units into EMEA. (support.hpe.com)
- The QuickSpecs 'What's New' says the warranty was increased from 1 year to 3 years (parts, labour, onsite), so early units may carry a shorter HPE warranty. Check each serial number. (support.hpe.com)
- The next generation, the DL20 Gen10 Plus, is itself end of life. HPE's PCN gives an EOL notification date of 1 Jan 2024 and DISC of 30 Jun 2024. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE PCN a00143611 (v5, 20 Aug 2026) schedules EOL-A for 1 Aug 2027 and DISC for 31 Jan 2028 for the DL20 Gen11. (support.hpe.com)

Related models
The DL20 Gen10 followed the DL20 Gen9. The next model in the same line, the DL20 Gen10 Plus, shares its EOL notice, PCN a00136611, with the ML30 Gen10 Plus, and that notice does not cover the DL20 Gen10. Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL20 Gen10
Is the HPE DL20 Gen10 end of life?
The retired DL20 Gen10 QuickSpecs describe it as obsolete and no longer for sale, but HPE has not put a date on either its end of life or its end of support. The dated DL20 EOL notice, PCN a00136611, applies to the DL20 Gen10 Plus, not this model.
Are the DL20 Gen10 and DL20 Gen10 Plus EOL dates the same?
No. HPE gives the DL20 Gen10 Plus an EOL notification date of 1 January 2024 and DISC of 30 June 2024, and publishes no equivalent dates for the DL20 Gen10. Confirm whether your server is the Gen10 or the Gen10 Plus before relying on any date.
Will the DL20 Gen10 run Windows Server 2022?
HPE's Windows Server certification matrix lists the DL20 Gen10 for Windows Server 2016 and 2019 only; it does not list 2022 or 2025. Microsoft's lifecycle page gives Windows Server 2019 an extended end date of 10 January 2029.
Can I still download DL20 Gen10 firmware?
Yes: System ROM firmware and Gen10 SPPs remain downloadable. HPE notice a00094704 lets Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) and System ROM firmware for listed platforms, including the DL20 Gen10, download with an HPE Passport account and no support agreement. The August 2026 SPP includes DL20 Gen10 System ROM v3.76, dated 28 May 2026.
Is third-party maintenance an option for a DL20 Gen10?
A quote can be requested. A third-party contract typically covers fault diagnosis, parts and engineer visits, including after a unit's HPE cover ends. For a DL20 Gen10, state the chassis (4 SFF, 2 LFF hot-plug or 2 LFF non-hot-plug), the power supply part number and whether the dedicated iLO port kit is fitted.
