HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10 end of life

HPE has published no model-wide end-of-life or end-of-support date for the ProLiant DL160 Gen10: its retired QuickSpecs call the base products obsolete and no longer available for sale, but put no date on that statement. That leaves each DL160's support to the dates HPE records against its serial number. HPE was still releasing firmware for this 1U, two-socket server in 2026.

ProLiant DL160 Gen10 support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

The same page gives 2029-10-31 for 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows, which looks like a blanket value rather than one specific to this model, so treat it with caution. Where the ProLiant DL160 Gen10 stands today

The DL160 Gen10's position rests on two findings. QuickSpecs a00021860enw, last revised as V32 on 18 August 2025, now carries a RETIRED banner saying the base products 'are now considered obsolete and are no longer available for sale'; the banner has no date, and the retired QuickSpecs is HPE's only public end-of-sale statement for this model. A search of HPE Support Center's own index on 8 October 2026 for Product Change Notifications mentioning the DL160 Gen10 returned just two platform-wide software notices, the Scripting Toolkit end of life (a00131404) and the iLO Amplifier Pack / InfoSight discontinuation (a00133620). Neither is a server end-of-life notice, so there is no EOL or discontinuation (DISC) date to quote.

Because HPE publishes no model-wide end-of-support date, each DL160 has to be checked on its own. Warranty Check, used inside a signed-in HPE Support Center session, takes the serial number printed on the product label and, on Submit, returns every service type with start and end dates and a status (Active, Expiring Soon, Expired or Active in Future). A registered server's warranty expiry follows its purchase date, and an unregistered one's is estimated from the manufacture date. The 31 October 2029 figure listed for the DL160 Gen10 online comes from the 'End of Support' column of eosl.date, a third-party tracker, not from HPE; that page gives the same date to 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows, which looks like a blanket value.

Finding the date for your own unit

HPE publishes no model-wide support end date for the DL160 Gen10; support ends per unit. To find a unit's dates: (1) Open HPE Warranty Check at https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc and sign in to the HPE Support Center. (2) Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list every service type with its start and end dates and a status: Active (more than 90 days left), Expiring Soon (under 90 days), Expired (ended less than a year ago) or Active in Future. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends

On firmware, HPE notice a00094704 (version 2, 13 January 2025) lists the DL160 Gen10 among the affected platforms and says Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) and ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware can now be downloaded without entitlement verification. An HPE Passport sign-in is all the notice asks for, with no active warranty or support agreement, though HPE's licence terms still apply. HPE's documents contradict each other here. An older 'SPP Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note (undated in its text; PDF created 27 February 2017) says the SPP needs an active warranty or support agreement and sends out-of-warranty requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD to HPE sales or a partner, so confirm what your own account can reach.

Whether HPE will still sell post-warranty or extended support for an obsolete DL160 is not confirmed by any current HPE source we found, so ask HPE, quoting the serial number. Independent cover is another option: HPE third-party maintenance generally means fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits that continue after a unit's HPE dates.

  • HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says no contract is needed for the Gen10 SPP or System ROM. Entitlement verification is no longer required to download Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) or ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware. Gen10 and later generations 'no longer require an active warranty or support agreement', and an HPE Passport account is enough. The notice lists the DL160 Gen10 among the affected hardware platforms. The HPE Software License Agreement terms still apply. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's documents CONTRADICT each other on this point. HPE's 'Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note has no date in its text; its PDF metadata says it was created on 27 Feb 2017. It says an active warranty or HPE support agreement is required to download the SPP, and it sends out-of-warranty requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD to HPE sales or a partner. The same note says ProLiant safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers download without entitlement validation. We record both statements without picking between them. Check with your own HPE account. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 Release Notes (the document says 'Published: August 2026'; HPE Support Center dates it 7 Aug 2026) say the SPP can be downloaded from the SPP Download page or the SPP Custom Download service and that 'Both options require an HPE account to log in'. This page states no warranty or contract requirement. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE was still releasing DL160 Gen10 firmware in 2026. The 'Gen10/Gen10 Plus Service Pack for ProLiant 2026.07.00.00 Server Support Guide' (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10/DL180 Gen10 (U31) Servers, v3.66_04-01-2026', plus the matching Linux and Windows online flash components. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL160 Gen10

A DL160 Gen10 maintenance schedule should start from the chassis, which HPE built two ways: 8 SFF SAS/SATA bays with an optional further 2 SFF (10 in total), or 4 LFF SAS/SATA bays. Behind them sit up to two first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Bronze, Silver, Gold and some Platinum SKUs) on the Intel C622 chipset, and 16 DIMM slots taking HPE DDR4 Smart Memory RDIMMs or LRDIMMs up to 1.0 TB; the two types cannot be mixed. Memory spares must suit the processors fitted, because HPE supports DDR4-2933 kits only with second-generation Xeon Scalable and DDR4-2666 kits only with first-generation.

On the power side, a DL160 Gen10 takes one or two HPE Flex Slot hot-plug supplies: 500 W Platinum, or 800 W in Platinum, Titanium, -48 VDC and universal high-voltage AC/DC versions. Fitting a Flex Slot supply requires the DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit (866442-B21), and two different supplies cannot be mixed. Note which supply type and kit each unit carries, include the iLO 5 management ASIC, and list the configuration when building a quote in the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL160 Gen10?

Keeping a DL160 Gen10 in service on maintenance is reasonable while its operating system still has headroom. HPE's Windows Server certification matrix lists it for Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 with no installation notes, and HPE's VMware matrix lists ESXi 8.0 through 8.0 U3 plus ESX 9.0 and 9.1. The August 2026 service pack carries System ROM v3.66_04-01-2026 for it, and field upgrades from first- to second-generation processors are not supported, so plan around the CPUs already fitted.

The case for refresh rests on the hypervisor. Broadcom KB 318697 marks second-generation Xeon Scalable (Cascade Lake, including Bronze 3200, Silver 4200 and Gold 5200/6200) 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x, which is still supported, and 'Discontinued' in a future major release, when the installer blocks installation. For first-generation Skylake-SP, KB 428874 (update note dated 18 September 2026) says the family 'was previously Discontinued in VCF 9.0', is now supported in Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x, and 'will not be extended to VCF releases beyond VCF 9.x'. A first-generation DL160 that must follow VMware past 9.x therefore needs a replacement plan, and a second-generation unit faces the same step in the future major release that discontinues Cascade Lake. HPE names no successor, so the choice of platform is open; refurbished HPE ProLiant servers are one candidate to set against renewing maintenance.

  • HPE's Windows Server certification matrix (Current Products) lists the DL160 Gen10 for Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, with no installation notes. Read on 2026-10-08; the page footer reads 'a50010742enw, June 2024'. (hpe.com)
  • HPE's VMware ESXi support matrix lists the DL160 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2 and 8.0 U3, and for ESX 9.0 and 9.1. The installation note links Broadcom KBs 318697 and 428874 and says 'HPE will continue to support server with Skylake processor as mentioned in your support contracts.' Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
  • Broadcom KB 318697 marks 2nd-gen Xeon Scalable CPUs (Cascade Lake: Platinum 8200, Gold 6200/5200, Silver 4200, Bronze 3200) 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. The KB says Deprecated mode is still supported by VMware. Discontinued means the installer blocks installation. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
  • Broadcom KB 428874 (update note dated 9/18/2026) says 1st-gen Xeon Scalable (Skylake-SP) 'was previously Discontinued in VCF 9.0', is 'now supported in Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x', and 'will not be extended to VCF releases beyond VCF 9.x'. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
  • Memory spares must match the processor generation. HPE's QuickSpecs says DDR4-2933 kits are supported only with 2nd-gen Xeon Scalable processors, and DDR4-2666 kits only with 1st-gen. (support.hpe.com)
  • Standard warranty is 3 years parts, 3 years labour and 3 years onsite support, with next-business-day response. Warranty end dates vary by serial number. (support.hpe.com)

Within HPE's Gen10 range the DL160 is tied closely to the DL180 Gen10: HPE's ROM flash package for the two is a single U31 build, and the Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit 866442-B21 is named for both. The previous generation in the same line is the DL160 Gen9. Other servers in the ProLiant Gen10 family have their own lifecycle positions, so check each separately, for example on the ProLiant DL360 Gen10 end-of-life page.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL160 Gen10

Is the HPE DL160 Gen10 end of life?

It is off sale: the RETIRED banner on HPE's QuickSpecs calls the base products obsolete and no longer available for sale, but carries no date. No EOL notice for the DL160 Gen10 turned up in HPE Support Center's index on 8 October 2026, HPE publishes no discontinuation or end-of-support date for it, and support therefore ends unit by unit according to the serial number.

When does HPE stop supporting the DL160 Gen10?

HPE does not publish a model-wide date. Enter the serial number in HPE Warranty Check to see the start and end dates of each service on that unit. The 31 October 2029 date seen online is from eosl.date, a third-party tracker that gives the same value to 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows, and Park Place has no EOSL page for this model.

Can I still download BIOS and SPP updates for the DL160 Gen10?

HPE notice a00094704 says ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware and Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 onwards download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement, and it names the DL160 Gen10; licence terms still apply. An older HPE validation note says the SPP needs an active warranty or HPE support agreement, so check with your own account. HPE's SPP 2026.07.00.00 release notes add that either download route needs an HPE account login.

What replaced the DL160 Gen10?

HPE names no successor. A search of HPE Support Center on 8 October 2026 returned no documents for a DL160 Gen10 Plus or DL160 Gen11, so this page names no next model in the same line. The previous generation was the DL160 Gen9.

Can I get third-party maintenance for a DL160 Gen10?

A quote can be requested. Server third-party maintenance generally covers diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, and such cover can run beyond the end of a unit's HPE cover. For this model, state the drive chassis (8 SFF, optionally 10, or 4 LFF), the supplies and enablement kit fitted, and the processor generation so memory spares can be matched.
