Where the ProLiant DL385 Gen10 stands today
QuickSpecs a00026913enw carries the DL385 Gen10's end-of-sale wording: a RETIRED banner, without a date, says the base products are obsolete and no longer available for sale, and V29 is the last revision listed. Searching HPE Support Center's index on 8 October 2026 turned up the Gen10 Plus / Gen10 Plus v2 notice a00146170 and platform-wide software PCNs, but no EOL notice for the DL385 Gen10 server. The EOL start of 1 February 2025 and DISC of 31 October 2025 in a00146170 apply to the Gen10 Plus v2, and the DL385 Gen10 itself has no dated HPE lifecycle milestone.
Support for a DL385 Gen10 is set per unit. Give HPE Warranty Check the serial number from the unit's product label (a Support Center sign-in is required) and each service type is returned with its start date, end date and status. Registration matters here: for a registered product HPE works expiry out from the purchase date, and for an unregistered one it estimates expiry from the manufacture date. eosl.date, a third-party tracker, lists 31 October 2029 as 'End of Support' for the DL385 Gen10; HPE did not publish that figure, and the tracker repeats it on 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows, so use it with caution.
HPE publishes no model-wide support end date for the DL385 Gen10; support ends per unit. To find a unit's dates: (1) Open HPE Warranty Check at https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc and sign in to the HPE Support Center. (2) Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list every service type with its start and end dates and a status: Active (more than 90 days left), Expiring Soon (under 90 days), Expired (ended less than a year ago) or Active in Future. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends
HPE's August 2026 Service Pack for ProLiant still carries a DL385 Gen10 System ROM: the 2026.07.00.00 support guide, a PDF created on 5 August 2026, lists the A40 package at v3.80_05-28-2026, separate from the A42 ROM used by Gen10 Plus models. Under notice a00094704 (version 2, 13 January 2025), which lists the 'HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server', ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware and Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 no longer go through entitlement verification, meaning an HPE Passport account will do and no active warranty or support agreement is needed; licence terms continue to apply.
Not every HPE document agrees. A validation note for SPP downloads, with no date in its text and a PDF creation date of 27 February 2017, ties the SPP to an active warranty or support agreement and routes out-of-warranty SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD requests through HPE sales or a partner, so test access with your own account. As for hardware cover, HPE post-warranty or extended support for this obsolete model is not confirmed as purchasable by any current HPE source we found; third-party hardware break-fix support generally covers diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers once vendor cover ends.
- HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says no contract is needed for the Gen10 SPP or System ROM. Entitlement verification is no longer required for Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) or ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware. Both download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement. The notice lists the 'HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server' among the affected platforms. Licence terms still apply. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's documents CONTRADICT each other on this point. HPE's 'SPP Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note (no date in the text; PDF created 27 Feb 2017) says the SPP needs an active warranty or HPE support agreement. It sends out-of-coverage requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD to HPE sales or a partner. It says security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers need no entitlement. We record both statements without picking between them. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 Release Notes (the document says 'Published: August 2026'; HPE Support Center dates it 7 Aug 2026) say both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in'. This page states no warranty or contract requirement. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's 'Gen10/Gen10 Plus Service Pack for ProLiant 2026.07.00.00 Server Support Guide' (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 (A40) Servers, v3.80_05-28-2026'. The Gen10 Plus models use a separate A42 ROM. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL385 Gen10
DL385 Gen10 chassis vary widely, so a contract should start from the drive map. HPE offered 8 SFF (expandable to 16 or 24 SFF), 24 SFF with a 6 SFF rear option for 30 SFF in total, 8 LFF, or 12 LFF with an optional 4 LFF mid-plane and 3 LFF + 2 SFF at the rear for 19 LFF + 2 SFF, plus an 8 NVMe drive option on the SFF chassis. Fan kits depend partly on that map: HPE requires High Performance fan kits for rear drives, GPUs, 180 W processor SKUs or NVMe configurations, and a field upgrade to 24 SFF needs the High Performance fan kit 867810-B21, so record which fan kit is fitted alongside the drive layout.
Compute, per HPE's final QuickSpecs, is one or two AMD EPYC 7002-series processors with 8 to 64 cores on a system-on-chip platform, served by 32 DIMM slots (16 per processor) that take up to 4.0 TB in 128 GB modules; RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cannot be combined. Flex Slot Platinum hot-plug supplies come in 500 W, 800 W (with -48 VDC and 277 VAC/380 VDC input versions) and 1600 W (240 V only) ratings, and two different supplies cannot be mixed. Because new 7xx2 boards are not equipped with the embedded 4x 1GbE adapter, check each unit's board, networking and iLO 5 ASIC before using the maintenance coverage builder to request a quote.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL385 Gen10?
Where a DL385 Gen10 runs Windows Server 2022 or older, or an ESXi/ESX version on HPE's list for it, keeping it under maintenance is reasonable. HPE's VMware matrix covers the model for ESXi 8.0 through 8.0 U3 and ESX 9.0 and 9.1, its Windows Server matrix covers 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and 2022, and HPE's August 2026 SPP still carries the A40 System ROM.
Two limits argue for refresh. The first is Windows Server 2025: HPE's matrix does not list it for the DL385 Gen10, while it does for the DL385 Gen10 Plus and Gen10 Plus v2. The second is VMware. Under Broadcom KB 318697, both EPYC 7001 (Naples) and EPYC 7002 (Rome, the processors in HPE's final DL385 Gen10 QuickSpecs) run in Deprecated mode in ESX/VCF 9.x, which the KB says is still supported; in a future major release they become Discontinued, and the installer then blocks installation. Because the next model in the same line, the DL385 Gen10 Plus, is also off sale, the refurbished ProLiant configurator is one place to cost an alternative against another maintenance term.
- HPE's Windows Server certification matrix (Current Products) lists the DL385 Gen10 for Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and 2022 only. Windows Server 2025 is NOT listed for this model, although HPE lists WS2025 for the DL385 Gen10 Plus and DL385 Gen10 Plus v2. Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- HPE's VMware ESXi support matrix lists the DL385 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2 and 8.0 U3, and for ESX 9.0 and 9.1. Its installation note links Broadcom KBs 318697 and 428874 but has no AMD EPYC-specific deprecation text. Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- Broadcom KB 318697 lists both AMD EPYC 7002 (Rome, the series in HPE's final DL385 Gen10 QuickSpecs) and EPYC 7001 (Naples) as 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. Deprecated mode is still supported. Discontinued means the installer blocks installation. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- DL385 Gen10 units differ by build. The QuickSpecs says the 'Embedded 4x 1GbE Adapter is not equipped on new boards for 7xx2 series processors'. Confirm the system board and networking of each unit when sourcing spares. (support.hpe.com)
- Fan rules affect upgrades. HPE requires High Performance fan kits for rear drives, GPUs, 180 W processor SKUs or NVMe configurations, and a field upgrade to 24 SFF needs the High Performance fan kit (867810-B21). (support.hpe.com)
- The next DL385 generation is also off sale. HPE PCN a00146170 (v5, 9 Jul 2025; read via HPE Support Center's search index because the page needs sign-in) puts the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 in the EOL process from 1 Feb 2025, with DISC on 31 Oct 2025. HPE's DL385 Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs (a00073549enw, last revised V31, 18 Mar 2024) is retired. (support.hpe.com)
- Standard warranty is 3 years parts, 3 years labour and 3 years onsite support, with next-business-day response. Warranty end dates vary by serial number. (support.hpe.com)

Related models
Keep the DL385 Gen10 apart from the DL385 Gen10 Plus and Gen10 Plus v2, whose HPE records differ from it. The Gen10 Plus models run a separate A42 ROM, the DL385 Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs (V31, 18 March 2024) is retired as well, and the Gen10 Plus v2 has dated EOL milestones in PCN a00146170 that do not carry over to the Gen10. No HPE source we opened names the generation before the DL385 Gen10, so this page names no predecessor. Other ProLiant models covered on their own end-of-life pages include the ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus, and the ProLiant Gen10 family overview covers the generation.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL385 Gen10
Is the ProLiant DL385 Gen10 end of life?
It is off sale, according to the undated banner on HPE's retired QuickSpecs. Beyond that, HPE has dated no lifecycle milestone for it: the 8 October 2026 search of HPE Support Center's index found no DL385 Gen10 EOL notice, HPE publishes no end-of-support date, and each unit's cover is set by the dates tied to its serial number. Park Place has no EOSL page for this model.
Do the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 EOL dates apply to the DL385 Gen10?
No. HPE PCN a00146170 put the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 into the EOL process from 1 February 2025, with DISC on 31 October 2025. Those milestones are the Plus v2's alone, and HPE has dated none for the DL385 Gen10.
Which Windows Server versions does HPE certify for the DL385 Gen10?
Four: 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and 2022, according to HPE's Windows Server certification matrix. Windows Server 2025 appears there for the DL385 Gen10 Plus and Gen10 Plus v2, not for the DL385 Gen10.
Do DL385 Gen10 BIOS downloads need an HPE contract?
Not according to HPE notice a00094704, which lists the DL385 Gen10: ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware and Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 onwards) need no entitlement verification, only an HPE Passport account, and HPE's licence terms apply. HPE's August 2026 SPP carries its A40 ROM at v3.80_05-28-2026. HPE's SPP validation note, undated in its text, disagrees, requiring an active warranty or support agreement for the SPP, so test what your account can download.
What does third-party cover for a DL385 Gen10 involve?
You can request a quote. Third-party maintenance generally includes diagnosis, parts and engineer visits once HPE cover ends; for a DL385 Gen10, list the drive layout, fan kit, supplies and whether the board has the embedded 4x 1GbE adapter. See HPE third-party maintenance for how such cover works.
