HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 end of life

The HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10, the AMD Opteron X3000 model, is retired from sale with no model-wide end-of-support date from HPE, although the third-party tracker eosl.date still files it as 'Currently Supported' with end of support on 31 October 2029. HPE cover for each MicroServer Gen10 ends on the date tied to its serial number. From HPE, the newest system firmware package listed for the model (the Windows package) was released on 13 March 2020, and HPE's current Gen10 and Gen10 Plus service pack does not include it.

ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 stands today

This page covers the original MicroServer Gen10, an Ultra Micro Tower built around an AMD Opteron X3216, X3418 or X3421, not the Intel-based MicroServer Gen10 Plus. Version 1 of its QuickSpecs is dated 5 June 2017, a document date rather than a launch date; the final revision, V10 of 9 November 2020, updated the pre-configured models and removed obsolete SKUs, and the RETIRED banner carries no date. When HPE Support Center was searched on 8 October 2026 it turned up no EOL product change notice covering the model; the one MicroServer EOL notice found, a00143611, is titled for Gen11 servers.

The 2029 date is the only end-of-support date found for the model, and eosl.date's release date of 1 July 2017 in the same row does not match HPE's QuickSpecs, so read it as a tracker estimate, not HPE policy. Park Place offers no EOSL entry for the MicroServer Gen10. What governs a given box is HPE Warranty Check: after signing in, enter the serial printed on the product label and submit, and each service type comes back dated, marked Active, Expiring Soon, Expired or Active in Future. Pre-configured models shipped with one year of parts, labour and next-business-day onsite cover.

Finding the date for your own unit

HPE does not publish a model-wide end-of-support date for the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10. Coverage is set per serial number. Sign in to HPE Support Center and open Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc, or Resources > Warranty Check). Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list each service type with its start and end dates and a status: 'Active' (end date more than 90 days away), 'Expiring Soon' (less than 90 days left), 'Expired' (ended less than a year ago) or 'Active in Future'. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends

Download rights here are wider than the firmware supply. HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 January 2025) lists the 'HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10' under Hardware Platforms Affected and says ProLiant Gen10 System ROM firmware no longer requires entitlement verification: an HPE Passport account suffices, with no active warranty or support agreement, though your agreement terms or the HPE Software License Agreement still apply. HPE's older SPP validation note (undated, PDF created 27 February 2017) conflicts with this, saying that for out-of-warranty products the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD go through HPE sales or a partner, so confirm against your own account.

Supply is the real limit. The Windows download page for MicroServer Gen10 system firmware lists ZA10A380, released 13 March 2020, as the latest, after ZA10A360 (13 July 2018) and ZA10A350 (28 May 2018); nothing on that page mentions entitlement, and the download was not tested. The MicroServers section of the v2026.07.00.00 service pack for Gen10 and Gen10 Plus, whose PDF dates from 5 August 2026, names only the MicroServer Gen10 Plus and Gen10 Plus v2, so this model sits outside HPE's current SPP.

  • HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says entitlement verification is no longer required to download System ROM firmware for ProLiant Gen10 servers; an HPE Passport account is enough, with no active warranty or support agreement. 'HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10' is named under Hardware Platforms Affected. The terms of your agreement or the HPE Software License Agreement still apply. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's undated SPP validation note (PDF created 27 Feb 2017) conflicts with a00094704. It says the SPP needs an active warranty or support agreement, and that SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD downloads for out-of-warranty products go through HPE sales or a partner. It also says safety and security firmware, controller components and drivers download without entitlement validation. Check against your own HPE account. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's download page 'System Firmware Upgrade for HPE MicroServer Gen10 Server with Microsoft Windows' lists ZA10A380 as 'Latest', with release date Mar 13, 2020. Earlier versions are ZA10A360 (Jul 13, 2018) and ZA10A350 (May 28, 2018). The page carries no entitlement or warranty wording, and the download itself was not tested. (support.hpe.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10

The MicroServer Gen10 has little built-in redundancy: it has one 200 W non-hot-plug, non-redundant power supply and one non-redundant system fan. The four LFF bays are non-hot-plug SATA, up to 16 TB with four 4 TB drives, beside a media bay holding an optional DVD-RW drive or a SATA SSD. Storage runs on the embedded Marvell 88SE9230 SATA 6Gb/s controller (RAID 0, 1 and 10, no FBWC) unless the optional Smart Array E208i-p SR Gen10 (RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10) was added. Two ECC UDIMM slots take up to 32 GB, two low-profile PCIe 3.0 slots (x8 and x1) handle expansion, and an embedded Broadcom BCM5720 provides two 1GbE ports.

HPE's QuickSpecs list no iLO or other out-of-band controller, so a contract has no management processor to include; the ports are VGA, two DisplayPort 1.2, USB 2.0/3.0 and two RJ-45. Third-party cover usually means diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, as hardware break-fix support describes, and a quote request should name the processor, controller and media-bay contents.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10?

Whether to run a MicroServer Gen10 on depends mostly on its operating system. HPE's Windows Server matrix (a50010742enw, June 2024) lists only Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016 for the 'Microserver Gen10', and the final QuickSpecs OS list adds RHEL 7.4 and ClearOS. Microsoft's lifecycle pages put Windows Server 2012 R2's Extended End Date at 11 October 2023, with Extended Security Update Year 3 ending on 14 October 2026, and Windows Server 2016's Extended End Date at 13 January 2027. A unit on an operating system still inside its support period can reasonably carry on under hardware cover.

For a Windows Server 2016 host, Microsoft's 13 January 2027 Extended End Date is the natural refresh point, since HPE's matrix lists no later Windows Server release for this hardware and its newest listed system firmware dates from March 2020. HPE also gives no ESXi version for the model: neither its current ESXi matrix (a50010842enw) nor its archived one (a50010843enw) lists it. The MicroServer Gen10 Plus is the next model in the same line and is listed for Windows Server 2016 through 2025, though its QuickSpecs (V13, 18 August 2025) are RETIRED too; refurbished HPE ProLiant servers widen the comparison.

  • There is no out-of-band management. HPE's QuickSpecs list no iLO for the MicroServer Gen10. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's current SPP doesn't cover this model. The MicroServers section of 'Service pack for HPE ProLiant Gen10 and 10 Plus, v2026.07.00.00' (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists only the MicroServer Gen10 Plus and MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2. (support.hpe.com)
  • The OS list in the final QuickSpecs is Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, RHEL 7.4 and ClearOS. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's Windows Server support and certification matrix (a50010742enw, stamped June 2024) lists only WS2012 R2 and WS2016 for the 'Microserver Gen10', with no WS2019 or later. The Gen10 Plus, by contrast, is listed for WS2016 through WS2025. (hpe.com)
  • Neither HPE's current VMware ESXi matrix (a50010842enw, ESXi 8.0/9.x) nor its archived ESXi matrix (a50010843enw) lists the MicroServer Gen10, so HPE gives no ESXi version for this model. (hpe.com)

  • Microsoft's lifecycle page gives Windows Server 2012 R2 an Extended End Date of 10/11/2023. Extended Security Update Year 3 ends 10/14/2026. (learn.microsoft.com)
  • The pre-configured models carry a warranty of 1-year parts, 1-year labour and 1-year onsite support with next-business-day response. Check each unit's serial number for its actual coverage. (support.hpe.com)
  • The next model, the MicroServer Gen10 Plus, is itself retired. Its QuickSpecs (a00073554enw, V13, 18-Aug-2025) carry the RETIRED banner. (support.hpe.com)

HPE maintenance in detail →

HPE gave this AMD machine the Gen10 name, and a00094704 counts it among the Gen10 platforms whose System ROM downloads no longer need entitlement, yet the current service pack HPE titles for ProLiant Gen10 and Gen10 Plus omits it. Its position should not be inferred from the ProLiant Gen10 family as a whole, nor from the ProLiant DL360 Gen10 end of life page, which covers a different Gen10 model. In the MicroServer line, the Gen8 came before it (inferred from the product line; no HPE document we opened names it), and the Intel-based Gen10 Plus is the next model in the same line.

Each bar runs from release to the milestone that marks end of support for the model as a whole. Amber bars end on a third-party tracker's date, not the vendor's. A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10

Is the HPE MicroServer Gen10 end of life?

HPE no longer sells it; its QuickSpecs banner marks the base products obsolete. Support is a separate matter. HPE publishes no model-wide end-of-support date, and the one tracker found to date it, eosl.date, still lists it as 'Currently Supported' with end of support on 31 October 2029, a date that is not HPE's. Warranty Check gives the coverage end for your serial number.

Can I still download BIOS updates for the MicroServer Gen10?

Notice a00094704 names the MicroServer Gen10 among Gen10 platforms whose System ROM firmware needs only an HPE Passport account, not an active warranty, although HPE's older SPP validation note conflicts with it. The newest system firmware listed is ZA10A380 from 13 March 2020, and HPE's current Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP leaves the model out.

Does the MicroServer Gen10 have iLO?

HPE's QuickSpecs for the MicroServer Gen10 list no iLO or other out-of-band management controller. Its interfaces are VGA, two DisplayPort 1.2, USB 2.0/3.0 and two RJ-45 network ports.

Can I run Windows Server 2019 on the MicroServer Gen10?

For this model, HPE's Windows Server matrix lists 2012 R2 and 2016 and nothing later, so Windows Server 2019 is outside HPE's listing. Microsoft's Extended End Date for Windows Server 2016 is 13 January 2027.

What came after the MicroServer Gen10?

The Intel-based HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus is the next model in the same line, and HPE's Windows Server matrix lists it for 2016 through 2025. It is no longer sold either: its QuickSpecs (V13, 18 August 2025) carry the RETIRED banner.
