Where the Juniper EX3400 stands today
Current status means Juniper has published no Last Order, End of Engineering or End of Support date for EX3400 switch hardware, and Juniper Care contracts can still be ordered through Juniper or a Juniper-authorised reseller. The EX3400 dates that do appear on Juniper's page are easy to misread. The cloud-subscription bundle SKUs B-EX3400-24P/24T/48P/48T-3S-E had their EOL announced and Last Order on 20 November 2023, and Juniper publishes their End of Support as 20 November 2024. That applies to the Sky Enterprise SaaS bundles only, not to an EX3400 switch bought on its own, so check which SKU any 2024 date really describes.
Software age is a separate question from hardware status. Juniper lists End of Support as 5 May 2019 for Junos 15.1X53 releases before D59 and 27 September 2020 for 15.1X53-D59x on the EX2300 and EX3400, so a switch still on early 15.1X53 code is running long-unsupported releases, whatever the hardware's status. To track your own units, watch the EX Series Hardware Dates & Milestones page for your exact SKU, and check per-unit warranty or contract status in Juniper's Serial Number Entitlement tool (Juniper login required).
No EX3400 hardware EOL has been published yet. Watch Juniper's EX Series Hardware Dates & Milestones page (https://support.juniper.net/support/eol/product/ex_series/) for your exact SKU. Per-unit warranty or contract status comes from Juniper's Serial Number Entitlement tool at https://supportportal.juniper.net/s/serial-number-entitlement (Juniper login required).
What still works after Juniper Networks (an HPE company) support ends
Juniper ties software access to a contract or the warranty. Its Juniper Care service description lists software releases as a contract deliverable and requires an active contract on all connected Junos devices; separately, while the EX Series Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty runs, the switch's original end-user purchaser can obtain generally available updates to run on that covered switch, within Juniper's EOL/End of Support guidelines. Under that warranty, JTAC troubleshooting is included for the first 90 days only. Juniper's EOL policy goes further, making support of any kind conditional on a valid, unexpired contract bought from Juniper or a Juniper-authorised reseller or support services specialist.
If and when an EX3400 notice arrives, Juniper's policy sets the expected shape: notification about six months before Last Order, End of Hardware Failure Analysis one year after Last Order, End of Engineering after three years and End of Support after five. The policy also says the dates in any specific notice may vary, and the EX4300-32F shows how far: its EOL announcement and Last Order were both dated 31 March 2026, with End of Support three years later on 31 March 2029. Budgeting on a full five-and-a-half-year runway from announcement is therefore a risk.
- Juniper lists software releases as a Juniper Care service-contract deliverable. Its service description says all deliverables need an active support contract on all connected Junos devices. (support.juniper.net)
- Under the EX Series Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty, Juniper makes generally available software updates available to the original end-user purchaser, for use on the covered hardware, during the warranty period. This is subject to Juniper's EOL/End of Support guidelines. (support.juniper.net)
- Juniper EOL policy timeline once an EOL is announced: notification about 6 months before Last Order, End of Hardware Failure Analysis at Last Order + 1 year, End of Engineering at + 3 years, End of Support at + 5 years. The policy says dates in a specific notice may vary. (support.juniper.net)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Juniper Care support contract via Juniper or an authorised reseller — Juniper's EOL policy makes support of any kind conditional on a valid, unexpired support contract bought from Juniper or a Juniper-authorised reseller or support services specialist. No EOL has been announced, so new contracts can still be ordered. (support.juniper.net)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the Juniper EX3400
The EX3400's power and cooling are modular, and that shapes how it is spared. Two rear slots (PSU 0 and PSU 1) take hot-insertable, hot-removable power supplies of 150 W, 600 W or 920 W AC, or 150 W DC, and the fan modules are hot-swappable FRUs too. The switch ships with one PSU, so a contract should record what is fitted in each slot, because PoE budget follows it: the EX3400-24P delivers 370 W of PoE+ on one 600 W supply and 720 W on two, and the EX3400-48P delivers 740 W on one 920 W supply and 1440 W on two.
On the data side, the 1U chassis (17.4 x 1.7 x 13.8 in) carries 24 or 48 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports, and on the 24P and 48P every one of them has PoE+, up to 30 W each. Four front-panel SFP/SFP+ ports provide 1/10GbE uplinks, and two rear 40GbE QSFP+ ports act as Virtual Chassis ports by default, supporting stacks of up to ten EX3400 switches. Cover should state whether those QSFP+ stacking links and their optics are included, and whether a failed stack member comes back with matching PSU wattage. Juniper's own warranty covers the fans and PSUs for only five years from the Start Date.

Extend or refresh the Juniper EX3400?
For an EX3400 estate, extending on maintenance is the ordinary choice today: no EOL has been announced, Juniper Care can be bought new, and the PSUs and fans are field-replaceable modules. Owners who bought units second-hand, where the original-purchaser warranty does not follow the switch, can compare Juniper Care with network third-party maintenance, which generally provides diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for the hardware. The maintenance coverage builder lets you set out an estate and request a quote.
The refresh case rests on software and notice periods rather than on hardware status. A switch still running pre-D59 15.1X53 releases needs a Junos upgrade under an entitlement that includes software, or a decision to retire it. Because notices can vary, as the EX4300-32F showed, it is sensible to identify a refresh budget before any EX3400 notice appears. The Juniper EX4100 is the next model in the same line; that is an inference, since with no EOL notice there is no vendor-named successor. The EX3300 came before it by model number only; the vendor sources checked contain no statement connecting the two.
- No hardware EOL has been announced. Juniper's policy timeline gives about 6 months' notice before Last Order and 5 years of support after it, but the policy allows individual notices to vary. In this same family, the EX4300-32F notice set EOL announcement and Last Order on the same day (2026-03-31), with End of Support three years later (2029-03-31). Do not assume a full 5.5-year runway from announcement. (support.juniper.net)
- The Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty covers EX3400 for the original end-user purchaser only. Fans and power supplies are covered for 5 years from the Start Date; on the EX3400 these are field-replaceable modules. JTAC troubleshooting is included for the first 90 days only, and JTAC phone calls need a valid service contract. (support.juniper.net)
- Units still running early Junos 15.1X53 releases are on long-unsupported code. Juniper lists End of Support as 05 May 2019 for 15.1X53 releases before D59, and 27 Sept 2020 for 15.1X53-D59x, on EX2300/EX3400. (support.juniper.net)

Questions people ask about the Juniper EX3400
Is the Juniper EX3400 end of life?
No. Juniper's EX Series Hardware Dates & Milestones page, last updated 30 July 2026, has no End of Life announcement for any EX3400 switch hardware SKU, and the HPE Store listed the EX3400-48P as new on 8 October 2026. There is no model-wide end-of-support date yet.
Why does a 2024 end-of-support date show up for the EX3400?
Juniper's page does publish an End of Support of 20 November 2024, but only for the Sky Enterprise SaaS bundle SKUs B-EX3400-24P/24T/48P/48T-3S-E, whose EOL announcement and Last Order both fell on 20 November 2023. That date does not apply to EX3400 switch hardware bought on its own.
How much warning will Juniper give before EX3400 end of support?
Juniper's EOL policy points to notification about six months before Last Order and End of Support five years after Last Order. The policy allows a specific notice to vary, and the EX4300-32F's EOL announcement and Last Order were both dated 31 March 2026, with End of Support three years after that.
Can I download Junos for an EX3400 without a support contract?
Junos releases are a Juniper Care deliverable, and Juniper requires an active contract on every connected Junos device. The alternative is the EX Series warranty: the original end-user purchaser can get generally available updates for that switch while the warranty lasts, within Juniper's EOL/End of Support guidelines.
Can I get third-party maintenance for an EX3400?
Third-party maintenance can sit alongside or in place of Juniper Care for EX3400 hardware, usually bringing fault diagnosis, engineers and replacement parts. What third-party maintenance covers sets out what such contracts include, and a quote can be requested for a specific estate.
