| Withdrawn from marketing (1st Gen Xeon SP configurations) | 2 February 2021 | Vendor-publishedThis is the date of the LP0648 change-log entry: 'The ThinkSystem ST550 with 1st Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors is now withdrawn from marketing.' | Lenovo ThinkSystem ST550 Server (Xeon SP Gen 1) Product Guide (withdrawn product) LP0648 |
| Withdrawn from marketing, world-wide | 23 July 2025 | Vendor-publishedThis is the date of the LP1055 change-log entry 'The ST550 is now withdrawn from marketing, world-wide.' Before that, Lenovo withdrew preconfigured models region by region; the 6 March 2024 update withdrew a list of EMEA models. | Lenovo ThinkSystem ST550 Server (Xeon SP Gen 1 / Gen 2) Product Guide (withdrawn product) LP1055 |
| End of Service (EOS), EMEA | 30 June 2029 | Vendor-publishedRe-queried 2026-10-08: Lenovo's EOS API lists only model CTO1WW for both 7X09 and 7X10, and both return 2029-06-30 in EMEA. Where the ThinkSystem ST550 stands today
The 30 June 2029 date is Lenovo's own, returned by its End of Service Date Lookup when re-queried on 8 October 2026, and it applies to EMEA; Lenovo says EOS dates vary by geo. The lookup lists a single model code, CTO1WW, under each ST550 machine type, 7X09 (sold with a one-year warranty) and 7X10 (three-year), and both give the same date. To confirm it for your tower, open HT504708, pick EMEA and enter the machine type from the label with CTO1WW. Warranty and contract dates are separate and per unit, by serial number.
The ST550 left Lenovo's range in stages. Configurations with 1st Gen Xeon Scalable processors were withdrawn on 2 February 2021 (LP0648 change log); before the final step, preconfigured models were withdrawn region by region, including a list of EMEA models in the 6 March 2024 update; and LP1055 recorded the ST550 as withdrawn world-wide on 23 July 2025. From that last step to EOS is under four years, so Lenovo's statement that it has 'historically' supported products for at least five years after withdrawal cannot be used to calculate dates. GPUs had gone before the server itself: every GPU the ST550 supported was withdrawn from marketing on 20 June 2023, and Lenovo no longer sells them as new options for it.
Lenovo publishes the EOS date by machine type and model. Open https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht504708, choose EMEA, and enter 7X09 or 7X10 with model CTO1WW (the only model listed). On 2026-10-08 it returned 30 June 2029. Warranty and contract end dates are per unit: check the serial number at https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/warranty-lookup.
What still works after Lenovo support ends
Lenovo support for the ST550 runs to 30 June 2029 in EMEA. The ST550 product guide lists Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response and Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response among Lenovo's warranty upgrades and post-warranty services, but their availability for a withdrawn model, or for a tower of a given age, has not been verified, so confirm with Lenovo or a partner. After 30 June 2029 Lenovo's support is withdrawn; its EOS notice adds that in some cases Lenovo will use 'reasonable commercial endeavors' to maintain eligible products past that point.
Firmware access is a separate question. Lenovo does not require a serial number to download server software, so ST550 updates are not tied to a contract, though Lenovo does not say whether they stay posted after EOS. On 8 October 2026 the newest platform packages on the 7X09 download list were XCC 10.40 (4 September 2025) and UEFI 4.30 (29 August 2025), while the most recent items of any kind were cross-platform XClarity Essentials tools dated 2-3 September 2026.
- Lenovo server software needs no serial number to download ('For Lenovo Server products, serial numbers are NOT required to download software'), so ST550 firmware downloads are not tied to a contract. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- After the EOS date Lenovo withdraws support. It says that 'in some cases, Lenovo will use reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date'. It does not say whether downloads stay posted. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Lenovo warranty upgrades and post-warranty support (Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response, Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response) — Listed in the ST550 product guide. We did not verify availability for this withdrawn model or for a unit of a given age. Lenovo support ends at the posted EOS of 30 Jun 2029 (EMEA). Confirm with Lenovo or a partner. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ThinkSystem ST550
The ST550 can be a free-standing tower or a 4U rack server, and its storage options are wide, so a maintenance schedule should be written from the actual build. Drive bays can be 8, 16 or 20 2.5-inch SAS/SATA hot-swap (optionally with NVMe), 4 or 8 3.5-inch hot-swap, a hybrid of 8 3.5-inch plus 4 2.5-inch hot-swap, or 4 or 8 3.5-inch simple-swap. Except in the 20-bay and hybrid builds, two 5.25-inch bays can hold an optical, RDX or LTO tape drive, and a contract should state whether a fitted tape or RDX drive is included.
Power is either up to two redundant hot-swap supplies (550 W, 750 W or 1100 W Platinum, or 750 W Titanium) or a fixed 450 W supply that is not hot-swap, so replacing that unit means powering the tower down. Expansion runs to six general-purpose PCIe 3.0 slots plus a slot for the M.2 adapter; slots 4 and 5 need the second processor, and slots 3 and 5 take double-wide GPUs. The XClarity Controller sits on the Pilot4 XE401 BMC, and remote control needs the optional XCC Advanced upgrade. The maintenance coverage builder can be used to list these components.

Extend or refresh the ThinkSystem ST550?
With Lenovo support posted to run until mid-2029 in EMEA, an ST550 that is stable on its current operating system can reasonably stay in service. For operating systems, the 2nd Gen Xeon ST550 is rated Supported & Certified on Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 and on ESXi 7.0 through 8.0 U3 in Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide, last updated 30 September 2026. Lenovo's own post-warranty services may still be available, and Lenovo third-party maintenance is an alternative where Lenovo cover on a unit has ended or is not offered.
The operating-system position is what argues for planning a move well before 2029. The same guide lists 'None' for Windows Server 2025, ESXi 9.0 and ESXi 9.1, and GPU options can no longer be bought new from Lenovo. If you need a newer OS or new graphics cards, look beyond the ST550. The next model in the same line is the ThinkSystem ST650 V2, while the OS Interoperability Guide's ST550 entry names the ThinkSystem ST650 V3 (5th Gen Xeon, machine types 7D7B/7D7A).
- Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 Sep 2026) lists the ST550 (SP Gen 2) as 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 and for VMware ESXi 7.0 through 8.0 U3. It lists 'None' for Windows Server 2025, ESXi 9.0 and ESXi 9.1. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide marks the ST550 as 'Withdrawn' and names the ThinkSystem ST650 V3 (5th Gen Xeon, machine types 7D7B/7D7A) as its replacement server. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- The posted EOS (30 Jun 2029) is less than four years after the guide's 23 Jul 2025 worldwide-withdrawal note. Lenovo says it has 'historically' supported products 'for at least five years following a product's withdrawal from marketing', but you cannot reliably compute EOS from withdrawal dates. Use the lookup. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- On 2026-10-08 the newest platform firmware on Lenovo's 7X09 download list was XCC 10.40 (DS577645, dated 4 Sep 2025) and UEFI 4.30 (DS577450, dated 29 Aug 2025). The newest items on the list are cross-platform XClarity Essentials tools dated 2-3 Sep 2026. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- All GPUs supported by the ST550 were withdrawn from marketing (LP1055 change log, 20 June 2023), so Lenovo no longer sells them as new options for this server. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)

Related models
The ST550 is a two-socket tower of the first ThinkSystem Xeon Scalable generation, alongside the 2U ThinkSystem SR550 and the 1U ThinkSystem SR530. All three had their 1st Gen Xeon configurations withdrawn on 2 February 2021 and carry the same XCC 10.40 package, yet only the ST550 has an EOS in Lenovo's lookup. The single-socket ThinkSystem ST250 tower is also withdrawn and reaches its EMEA EOS earlier, on 30 September 2028.

Questions people ask about the ThinkSystem ST550
Is the Lenovo ST550 end of life?
The ST550 is withdrawn from marketing, worldwide since 23 July 2025, but it is not past End of Service. Lenovo's posted EMEA EOS date is 30 June 2029, so Lenovo support is available until then.
What is the ThinkSystem ST550's End of Service date?
30 June 2029 in EMEA, the region that covers the UK. Lenovo's lookup gives that date for model CTO1WW under both machine types, 7X09 and 7X10. Lenovo says EOS dates vary by geo, so a unit elsewhere should be checked against its own region.
Can I still download firmware for the ST550?
Yes, without a warranty or contract: Lenovo's rule for server products is that no serial number is needed to download software. Lenovo has not said whether ST550 downloads will remain after 30 June 2029.
Can I still buy a GPU for the ST550 as a new Lenovo option?
No. The LP1055 change log records that all GPUs supported by the ST550 were withdrawn from marketing on 20 June 2023, so Lenovo no longer sells them as new options for this server.
What came after the ThinkSystem ST550?
The ThinkSystem ST650 V2 is the next model in the same line, and Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide names the ThinkSystem ST650 V3, a 5th Gen Xeon system, against the ST550. Lenovo's ST650 V2 guide compares it with the ST550 as the previous generation but also describes the ST650 V2 as 'positioned above ST550, the value 2S tower'.
