ThinkSystem SR650 V2 support dates
| Milestone | Date | Basis | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Withdrawn from marketing | 18 September 2025 | Vendor-publishedThis is the date of the LP1392 change-log entry 'The server is now withdrawn'. | Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V2 Server Product Guide (withdrawn product) LP1392 |
| End of Service (EOS), EMEA | 31 December 2030 | Vendor-publishedRe-queried 2026-10-08: 7Z72 and 7Z73 each list models CTO1WW and CTOLWW, and all return 2030-12-31. 7D15 (SAP HANA configurations, model CTO1WW) also returns 2030-12-31. The 'for AI' base models in LP1392 (7Z73CTOBWW, 7Z73CTOHWW) returned no date. | Lenovo End of Service Date Lookup (HT504708), end-of-service API, 7Z73 CTO1WW, EMEA |
Where the ThinkSystem SR650 V2 stands today
Lenovo shows the 31 December 2030 date against every combination its EMEA lookup lists for the SR650 V2: machine types 7Z72 (one-year warranty) and 7Z73 (three-year warranty) with model codes CTO1WW and CTOLWW, and 7D15, the SAP HANA machine type, with CTO1WW. The LP1392 'for AI' base models, 7Z73CTOBWW and 7Z73CTOHWW, returned no date when queried on 8 October 2026; if your label shows one of these, ask Lenovo directly. Lenovo's EOS dates vary by geo, so select EMEA for a UK unit.
Lenovo's LP1392 change log records the withdrawal on 18 September 2025 ('The server is now withdrawn'). That date ended new sales; it is not a support date. For your own unit, enter the machine type and model from the label in Lenovo's End of Service Date Lookup (HT504708) under EMEA, then check the serial number in Lenovo's warranty lookup. Warranty and any Lenovo contract end per unit, so an individual SR650 V2 can be out of warranty long before 2030.
Lenovo publishes the EOS date by machine type and model. Open https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht504708, choose EMEA, and enter the machine type (7Z72, 7Z73 or 7D15) and model code (CTO1WW or CTOLWW) from the machine type/model on the label. On 2026-10-08 every listed combination returned 31 December 2030. Units built on the 'for AI' base models (7Z73CTOBWW or 7Z73CTOHWW) returned no date; ask Lenovo directly for those. Warranty and contract end dates are per unit: check the serial number at https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/warranty-lookup.
What still works after Lenovo support ends
Lenovo is still releasing maintenance bundles for the SR650 V2. On 8 October 2026 the 7Z72 download list carried UpdateXpress System Packs v2.4 for the SR630 V2 and SR650 V2, dated 4-8 September 2026, while the newest standalone platform firmware was XCC 5.70 (4 September 2025) and UEFI 3.60 (29 August 2025). Lenovo server downloads are not gated by serial number, so none of this depends on a warranty or contract. What happens to downloads after 31 December 2030 Lenovo does not say; it describes EOS as the withdrawal of support while noting that 'in some cases' it will use 'reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date'.
The product guide lists 1-year and 2-year warranty extensions alongside Standard and Premier Next Business Day cover and the Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response and Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response levels, noting that some upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions. For a withdrawn model, what Lenovo will sell depends on region and the age of the unit, and Lenovo support ends at the posted EOS. Confirm with Lenovo or a partner, or weigh the terms against an alternative to Lenovo Premier Support.
- Lenovo server software needs no serial number to download ('For Lenovo Server products, serial numbers are NOT required to download software'), so SR650 V2 firmware downloads are not tied to a contract. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- After EOS Lenovo withdraws support, though 'in some cases' it will use 'reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date'. It does not say whether downloads stay posted after EOS. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Lenovo warranty upgrades and post-warranty support (Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response, Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response); 1-year or 2-year warranty extensions — Listed in the SR650 V2 product guide, which notes that 'some warranty upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions'. Availability for a withdrawn model and for a given unit depends on region and unit age, and Lenovo support ends at the posted 31 Dec 2030 EOS. Confirm with Lenovo or a partner. Extend or refresh the ThinkSystem SR650 V2?
Nothing in Lenovo's operating-system support pushes the SR650 V2 off today. Every Windows Server release from 2016 to 2025, and ESXi from 7.0 U2 to 9.1, is Supported & Certified for it in Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 September 2026). UpdateXpress maintenance bundles were still arriving in September 2026 and Lenovo's EMEA EOS is over four years away, so moving a host that meets its workload onto hardware break-fix support once its warranty lapses is a reasonable choice.
Refresh is driven by capacity, platform age or the end date rather than by current support. The SR650 V2 is a 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable ('Ice Lake') platform on TruDDR4 and PCIe 4.0, and Lenovo support for it ends on 31 December 2030 in EMEA. A host you expect to run beyond then needs either a plan for newer hardware or cover that continues past Lenovo's EOS, and one that has outgrown the platform needs the former. Lenovo Press describes the ThinkSystem SR650 V3 as improving on the SR650 V2, which makes it the next model in the same line, while the OS Interoperability Guide's SR650 V2 entry names the ThinkSystem SR650 V4 (Xeon 6 P-cores, machine types 7DGC/7DGD/7DK2/7DLN).
- The SR650 V2 product guide lists Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 and VMware ESXi 8.0 U3, 9.0 and 9.1 among supported operating systems, so the platform still has a current OS path. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 Sep 2026) lists the SR650 V2 as 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016 through 2025 and for ESXi 7.0 U2 through 9.1. It marks the server 'Withdrawn' and names the ThinkSystem SR650 V4 (Xeon 6 P-cores, machine types 7DGC/7DGD/7DK2/7DLN) as its replacement server. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo is still releasing maintenance bundles. On 2026-10-08 the 7Z72 download list showed SR630v2/SR650v2 UpdateXpress System Packs v2.4 dated 4-8 Sep 2026. The newest standalone firmware listed was XCC 5.70 (DS577641, 4 Sep 2025) and UEFI 3.60 (DS577444, 29 Aug 2025). (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo shows EOS dates per geo ('Lenovo Announced End-of-Service (EOS) dates vary by Geo'). Use EMEA for UK units. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)

Questions people ask about the ThinkSystem SR650 V2
Is the ThinkSystem SR650 V2 end of life?
Not at End of Service yet. Lenovo withdrew the SR650 V2 from marketing on 18 September 2025, and its EMEA lookup gives 31 December 2030 as the EOS for every listed model code, so Lenovo support continues to that date.
When does Lenovo stop supporting the SR650 V2?
On 31 December 2030 in EMEA, for machine types 7Z72, 7Z73 and 7D15 with the model codes Lenovo lists. The 'for AI' base models 7Z73CTOBWW and 7Z73CTOHWW returned no date on 8 October 2026, so owners of those should ask Lenovo.
Does the SR650 V2 support Windows Server 2025 and ESXi 9?
Yes. Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide lists the SR650 V2 as Supported & Certified for Windows Server 2016 to 2025 and for ESXi 7.0 U2 to 9.1.
Is Lenovo still releasing updates for the SR650 V2?
Yes, in bundle form: UpdateXpress System Packs v2.4 for the SR630 V2 and SR650 V2 are dated 4-8 September 2026. The newest standalone firmware on the list is older, XCC 5.70 (September 2025) and UEFI 3.60 (August 2025). Downloads need no serial number, and Lenovo has not said whether they will stay available after the 2030 EOS.
What came after the SR650 V2?
The ThinkSystem SR650 V3 is the next model in the same line; Lenovo's own guide for it says it improves on the SR650 V2. Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide, meanwhile, points SR650 V2 owners to the ThinkSystem SR650 V4, a Xeon 6 P-core server.
