FortiGate 600F vs 1000F vs 1800F — all three are NP7 and CP9-based FortiGates with dual hot-swappable power supplies as standard, but they are not interchangeable. The 600F is a 1RU appliance with 139 Gbps firewall throughput, 14 Gbps IPS, 11.5 Gbps NGFW, 10.5 Gbps Threat Protection and 8 million concurrent sessions. The 1000F and 1800F are 2RU platforms that share a 198 Gbps firewall figure but separate on inspection: the 1000F lists 19 Gbps IPS, 15 Gbps NGFW, 13 Gbps Threat Protection and 7.5 million sessions, while the 1800F lists 22 Gbps IPS, 17 Gbps NGFW, 15 Gbps Threat Protection and 12 million sessions (40 million with the Hyperscale Firewall licence).

Port layouts point to different roles. The 600F tops out at 25GE, with 4 × 25GE SFP28, 4 × 10GE SFP+, 8 × GE SFP and 16 × GE RJ45 ports. The 1000F adds 100GE, with 2 × 100GE QSFP28, 8 × 25GE SFP28, 16 × 10GE SFP+ and 8 × 10GE RJ45 ports. The 1800F has the most 100GE and 25GE ports: 4 × 100GE QSFP28 and 12 × 25GE SFP28, plus 8 × GE SFP and 16 × GE RJ45.

In practice, the 600F fits a large campus or internet edge that does not need 100GE. The 1000F suits a data centre edge that needs 100GE uplinks and dense 10GE copper and fibre. The 1800F is the choice when inspected throughput, a larger session table or four 100GE ports are the priority.
