Dell · PowerEdge 15th generation (15G): AMD EPYC 7002/7003, single-socket 1U

Dell PowerEdge R6515 end of life

The PowerEdge R6515, Dell's 1U single-socket AMD EPYC server, carries no Dell-published model-wide date for end of sale or end of service life, so its support ends unit by unit as each Service Tag's warranty or contract runs out. The R6515 is still getting firmware: its Drivers & Downloads page lists BIOS 2.25.1, dated 30 September 2026. The 'AX-6515' dates in Dell's end-of-life spreadsheet belong to the Azure Stack HCI AX line, not to this server.

PowerEdge R6515 support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the PowerEdge R6515 stands today

Dell's Hardware Release and End of Service Life Notifications spreadsheet, attached to KB 000185734 and dated 2 October 2026, holds no row for the PowerEdge R6515 server, and no Dell end-of-sale notice for it was found. The KB describes that sheet's scope as converged infrastructure, storage and storage networking products. The sheet does carry an 'AX-6515' row, filed under Azure Stack HCI AX, with an EOL of 30 August 2024 and an EOSS of 31 August 2029; those dates belong to that appliance line, not to the R6515.

For an R6515, the date to plan around is the one recorded against your own unit. Slide out the information tag on the front of the server to read the Service Tag, and enter it on Dell's contract services page to see that unit's warranty status and expiration date (Dell KB 000132024 sets out the steps). Because coverage follows each tag rather than the model, check every R6515 you hold. If the review covers more than this model, see the server end-of-life checker.

Finding the date for your own unit

Dell publishes no model-wide end-of-support date for PowerEdge servers; coverage ends per unit. Read the Service Tag from the slide-out information tag on the front of the server (Dell R6515 Installation and Service Manual: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-r6515_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter it at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see that unit's warranty status and expiration date (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).

What still works after Dell support ends

Dell's position, set out in KB 000128194 (last modified 31 August 2026), is that 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website'; the KB counts the BIOS as firmware and states no warranty or contract condition. For this model the Drivers & Downloads page lists the 'R6515/R7515' BIOS 2.25.1 (Recommended, 30 September 2026) and iDRAC 7.30.30.54 (Urgent, 21 August 2026). Dell classes Urgent updates as ones to apply promptly, so check the iDRAC build on any R6515 you keep, and read version numbers from that page: Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115, last modified 10 September 2026, still shows 7.20.80.50 from December 2025 as the R6515's latest.

On hardware, Dell offers warranty renewal, which Dell says can 'cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts'. It works per Service Tag where offered, it is not available in every country, and an R6515 bought through a reseller may need renewing through that reseller. Where renewal is not on offer, Dell third-party maintenance is one route to hardware cover.

  • Dell KB 000128194 (last modified 31 Aug 2026) says: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' The KB defines firmware as including the BIOS. It states no warranty or contract condition. (dell.com)
  • Dell is still releasing firmware for the R6515. Its Drivers & Downloads page lists 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R6515/R7515 Version 2.25.1' (Recommended, 30 Sep 2026) and 'iDRAC 7.30.30.54' (Urgent, 21 Aug 2026). (dell.com)
  • Dell's iDRAC9 Version 7.20.80.50 release notes (Rev. A00, December 2025) list the PowerEdge R6515 among the supported '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers'. (dl.dell.com)

Vendor support you can still buy

  • Dell warranty renewal (per Service Tag, where offered) — Dell: 'Dell warranties can be renewed to cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts.' 'Warranty Renewals are not available in all countries.' Units bought through a reseller may need renewing through that reseller. Check the individual unit's Service Tag. (dell.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge R6515

The R6515's drive bays are all at the front of the 1U chassis, in one of four layouts Dell lists: up to four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays; eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA bays; ten 2.5-inch bays split eight SAS/SATA and two NVMe; or ten 2.5-inch NVMe bays, with front NVMe running at PCIe Gen3. A contract schedule should also name the controller behind those bays. Internally Dell offers the PERC H740P, H730P and H330, the HBA330, S150 software RAID and a BOSS-S1 (2 x M.2); externally, a PERC H840, HBA355e or 12 Gbps SAS HBA.

Power needs checking unit by unit. Dell offers 550 W and 700 W AC Platinum supplies for the R6515 and notes that some high-power configurations run in 2+0 mode only, without 1+1 redundancy, so confirm the mode before assuming the second supply is redundant. Other parts to list include the 16 DIMM sockets (up to 1 TB with 64 GB RDIMMs, or 2 TB with 128 GB 3DS LRDIMMs), any LOM riser and its ports, the two low-profile PCIe x16 slots (slot 2 Gen3, slot 3 Gen4) and iDRAC9 with its dedicated network port and micro-USB iDRAC Direct port. Server third-party maintenance generally covers diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits for components of this kind.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge R6515?

Extending an R6515 on maintenance holds up where it runs current firmware and an OS from Dell's supported list, which includes Windows Server 2016, 2019 LTSC, 2022 LTSC and 2025 LTSC, VMware ESXi 6.5 to 9.0 plus an 'ESXi 9.1 - U1' entry, RHEL 7, 8 and 9, SLES 15, and Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04 and 22.04. With 2026 BIOS and iDRAC builds available, a single-socket 1U host in that position can move to hardware break-fix support when its Dell warranty expires; such cover generally provides diagnosis, parts and engineer attendance.

Before extending, check Secure Boot. In Dell's KB on the rollover, Microsoft's 2011 Secure Boot certificates 'expire starting June 2026', a month now past, and 15th Generation servers are among the platforms named as affected; KB 000402373 sets BIOS 2.22.0 as the lowest R6515 BIOS with the updated certificates. Dell also warns that it 'may not support an operating system for various reasons, including discontinued support from the software vendor.' A workload that needs an OS missing from that list, or more than one processor, 16 DIMM sockets or Gen3 front NVMe, points to retiring the unit. For what comes next, compare the PowerEdge R6615, the next model in the same line, with refurbished Dell PowerEdge servers.

  • Dell's R6515 Drivers & Downloads page offers iDRAC 7.30.30.54, rated 'Urgent' and dated 21 Aug 2026. Dell classes Urgent updates as ones to apply promptly, so check the iDRAC build on any R6515 you plan to keep in service. (dell.com)
  • Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 (last modified 10 Sep 2026) still shows 7.20.80.50 (December 2025) as the latest iDRAC9 for the R6515. It does not reflect the 7.30.30.54 build on the model's Drivers & Downloads page, so use the Drivers & Downloads page for the current build. (dell.com)
  • Dell's iDRAC9 7.20.80.50 release notes (December 2025) list the R6515 under '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers', alongside Intel 15G models such as the R650 and R750. That release lists only 15th and 16th Generation systems. (dl.dell.com)
  • Secure Boot certificate rollover: Dell says Microsoft's 2011 Secure Boot certificates 'expire starting June 2026'. It names 14th, 15th and 16th Generation server platforms as affected. (dell.com)
  • Dell KB 000402373 (last modified 23 Jun 2026) gives BIOS 2.22.0 as the minimum R6515/R7515 BIOS that includes the updated Microsoft Secure Boot certificates, and says newer BIOS versions also include them. An R6515 on an earlier BIOS does not have them; BIOS downloads are free (KB 000128194). (dell.com)
  • Dell's supported-OS list for the R6515 includes Windows Server 2016, 2019 LTSC, 2022 LTSC and 2025 LTSC; VMware ESXi 6.5 to 9.0 (plus an 'ESXi 9.1 - U1' entry); RHEL 7/8/9; SLES 15; Ubuntu 18.04/20.04/22.04. Dell notes it 'may not support an operating system for various reasons, including discontinued support from the software vendor.' (dell.com)
  • Scope trap: Dell's hardware EOSL spreadsheet has an 'AX-6515' row under 'Azure Stack HCI AX' (RTS 2021-08-18, EOL 2024-08-30, EOSS 2029-08-31). Those dates belong to that appliance line, not to the PowerEdge R6515 server, which has no row. (supportkb.dell.com)

Dell launched the R6515 together with the R7515: its 17 September 2019 release said 'Dell EMC PowerEdge R6515 and R7515 servers are available worldwide now.' The two still share one BIOS package, labelled 'R6515/R7515', and KB 000402373 sets the same 2.22.0 Secure Boot minimum for both. Dell's iDRAC9 7.20.80.50 release notes file the R6515 under 15th Generation PowerEdge servers alongside Intel 15G models such as the R650 and R750. Its own predecessor, the PowerEdge R6415, is the comparison point in the Japanese edition of Dell's R6515 Technical Guide. Separate pages cover other PowerEdge models, among them PowerEdge R630 end of life.

Each bar runs from release to the milestone that marks end of support for the model as a whole. Amber bars end on a third-party tracker's date, not the vendor's. A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge R6515

Has the Dell R6515 reached end of life?

Dell has not published an end-of-life date for the R6515 as a model, and its hardware EOSL spreadsheet carries no end-of-sale or end-of-service-life row for the server. Each unit's coverage stops when the warranty or contract on its Service Tag ends, and Dell's R6515 downloads include a BIOS dated 30 September 2026.

Does the AX-6515 end-of-life date apply to a PowerEdge R6515?

No. In Dell's spreadsheet the AX-6515 sits under Azure Stack HCI AX, and its EOL of 30 August 2024 and EOSS of 31 August 2029 belong to that appliance line. The PowerEdge R6515 server has no row of its own in that sheet.

Does Dell still publish BIOS updates for the R6515?

Yes. BIOS 2.25.1, released for the R6515 and R7515 together and dated 30 September 2026, is on the R6515's Drivers & Downloads page, marked Recommended. Dell's KB 000128194 says all Dell server drivers and firmware are free to download and states no warranty or contract condition.

Which PowerEdge model follows the R6515?

Going forward, the R6615 is the next model in the same line, while going back, the Japanese edition of Dell's R6515 Technical Guide (Rev. A10) compares the R6515 with the PowerEdge R6415 that came before it. Weigh any move against the operating-system and capacity checks above.

Who can maintain an R6515 once the Dell warranty ends?

Dell may offer a warranty renewal on the Service Tag, though not in every country. Third-party maintenance is another option, generally covering fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits; for a quote, list each unit's Service Tag, drive layout, PERC or HBA model and power supply wattage.
