HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus end of life

The HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus is no longer sold, and HPE has put it into its end-of-life process, but no model-wide end-of-support date can be read publicly. HPE's EOL process dates for the server are in Product Change Notification a00136611, which opens only after an HPE Support Center sign-in, so which milestones it lists is not known. HPE still releases firmware for the platform: the DL20 Gen10 Plus is a listed supported platform in the Gen10/Gen10 Plus Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2026.07.00.00, whose release notes were published in August 2026, and each unit's cover ends according to its serial number.

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus stands today

A retirement banner with no date and a notice that only signed-in users can read define this 1U rack server's position. HPE's QuickSpecs (a50002583enw) say the base products are 'obsolete and are no longer available for sale'; the last revision listed, Version 24 of 16 September 2024, updated the operating-system support section. PCN a00136611, 'HPE ProLiant DL20/ML30 Gen10 Plus Servers - End Of Life (EOL) Process Dates', shows only its title to the public, so its milestones and dates are unknown here and none are quoted.

For any one DL20 Gen10 Plus, the date that counts is tied to its serial number. Take the serial from the product label, log in to HPE Support Center, enter it in Warranty Check and read each service type's start and end dates; for a registered server HPE calculates the warranty end date from the purchase date, and for the rest it estimates that date from the manufacture date. The QuickSpecs' standard warranty is 3 years parts, 3 years labour and 3 years onsite with next-business-day response, so standard cover lapses on different days across a fleet bought over time.

Finding the date for your own unit

HPE's model-wide EOL dates for this server are in PCN a00136611. Sign in to HPE Support Center and open https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00136611en_us. Your own warranty or contract end date is set per serial number. Find the serial number on the product label, sign in to HPE Support Center, open Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc), enter the serial number and read the start and end dates for each service type. HPE says that if the product was registered, the warranty end date is based on the purchase date; otherwise it is estimated from the manufacture date.

What still works after HPE support ends

HPE still releases firmware for this platform; the open question is what a download requires. In customer notice a00094704, version 2 of 13 January 2025, HPE states that entitlement verification 'is no longer required' for downloading SPP and BIOS/System ROM firmware for 'ProLiant Gen10 servers, Apollo Gen10 servers and future ProLiant and Apollo server generations', and that current Gen10 and future generations no longer need an active warranty or support agreement to download Gen10 SPP (2019.12.0 and later releases only) or System ROM firmware. For the current SPP, 2026.07.00.00, HPE's release notes require an HPE account login on the SPP Download page and on SPP Custom Download, and mention no warranty or contract. The 2022.03.0 notes said entitlement verification was no longer required for the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP versions, yet kept an older line saying both download options 'require HPE Passport login and an active warranty or HPE support agreement.'

HPE's SPP 'Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note, which has no printed date (its PDF metadata gives a creation date of 27 February 2017), takes the opposite line: a warranty or HPE support agreement must be active to download the SPP, products out of warranty need contact with HPE or a partner for the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD, and drivers, iLO and controller components, along with ProLiant safety and security firmware, are available without entitlement validation. HPE's documents disagree, so both positions are recorded. Whether HPE will sell post-warranty cover on a retired DL20 Gen10 Plus is a question for HPE or a partner, serial number in hand.

  • HPE customer notice a00094704 (version 2, 13 January 2025): 'entitlement verification is no longer required for downloading product updates such as Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) and BIOS/ System ROM firmware for ProLiant Gen10 servers, Apollo Gen10 servers and future ProLiant and Apollo server generations.' It adds that current Gen10 and future server generations 'no longer require an active warranty or support agreement for downloading Gen10 SPP (2019.12.0 and later releases only) or System ROM firmware.' (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2022.03.0 release notes say 'Entitlement verification is no longer required for the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP versions' and that the production SPP 'can be downloaded using HPE passport account, without the need for active warranty or support agreement.' The same document also has an older line saying both download options 'require HPE Passport login and an active warranty or HPE support agreement.' (downloads.hpe.com)
  • HPE's current Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 release notes (published August 2026) say both download routes, the SPP Download page and SPP Custom Download, 'require an HPE account to log in'. They state no warranty or contract requirement. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's SPP 'Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note contradicts the documents above. It has no printed date; its PDF metadata gives a creation date of 27 February 2017. It says an active warranty or HPE support agreement is required to download the SPP, and that for out-of-warranty products the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD need contact with HPE or a partner. It also says ProLiant safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers are available without entitlement validation. HPE's documents disagree, so both positions are recorded. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus

A contract on a DL20 Gen10 Plus has to match the chassis fitted, because HPE offered three: 2 LFF hot-plug, 2 LFF non-hot-plug, or 4 SFF hot-plug with an optional 2 SFF more, plus onboard M.2 NVMe/SATA SSD support. Embedded Intel VROC SATA software RAID (RAID 0/1/5/10) is standard; the optional HPE Smart Array controllers are the E208i-a and E208e-p (Essential) and the P408i-a and P408e-p (Performance). The QuickSpecs say VROC 'supports Windows Server and Linux but does not support VMware', so an ESXi host needing hardware RAID relies on a Smart Array controller, and the spares plan should include it.

The standard 290W non-redundant FIO supply comes as P21649-B21 or P45476-B21; the redundant option uses the RPS FIO Enable Kit (P45948-B21) with HPE Flex Slot 500W Platinum, 800W Titanium or 800W -48VDC supplies. For UK and EU spares, the QuickSpecs note that from 1 January 2024 EU Lot 9 requires AC supplies to be 94% efficient (multi-output) or 96% (single-output), and name 865438-B21 (800W Flex Slot Titanium) and P45476-B21 (290W FIO, 94%) as compliant, P45476-B21 being 'currently available in EMEA only'. Add one Xeon E-2300 (E-2314 to E-2388G, up to 8 cores) or Pentium G6405, up to four DDR4 UDIMMs (128 GB maximum) and the iLO 5 controller, and that is the parts list an HPE third-party maintenance contract would be written against; the maintenance coverage builder turns that list into a quote request.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus?

Keeping a DL20 Gen10 Plus running is defensible today. It is in HPE's current SPP; HPE's Windows Server matrix lists Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025 with no installation note (2016 is not listed); and HPE's VMware matrix lists ESXi 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2 and 8.0 U3 plus ESX 9.0 and 9.1, with ESXi 7.0 U3 only on HPE's archived-products page. While that holds, maintaining the drives, controller and power supplies keeps a working 1U server in service.

The case for refresh rests on what is hidden. Before setting a multi-year budget, sign in, read the PCN a00136611 dates and set them against each unit's Warranty Check dates. The next model in the same line is the DL20 Gen11, but HPE has issued '(Revision) HPE ProLiant DL20/ML30/MicroServer/DL320/DL360/DL380/DL380a/RL300/ML350/ML110 Gen11 Servers - End Of Life (EOL) Dates', whose dates and covered DL20 Gen11 product numbers also need a sign-in, so read it before a like-for-like swap. Buyers weighing a spare chassis against a new server can also look at refurbished HPE ProLiant servers.

  • HPE has started the end-of-life process for this model. PCN a00136611, 'HPE ProLiant DL20/ML30 Gen10 Plus Servers - End Of Life (EOL) Process Dates', covers the DL20 and ML30 Gen10 Plus together. Its content can only be read by users signed in to HPE Support Center. (support.hpe.com)

A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus

Is the HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus end of life?

HPE has started the end-of-life process for it, and its QuickSpecs carry a RETIRED banner calling the base products obsolete and no longer available for sale. No model-wide end-of-support date can be read publicly; HPE's EOL process dates are in PCN a00136611, which needs an HPE Support Center sign-in. The server is still a listed platform in HPE's SPP 2026.07.00.00, with release notes published in August 2026.

When does HPE stop supporting the DL20 Gen10 Plus?

No model-wide end-of-support date can be read publicly, and HPE's EOL process dates sit in PCN a00136611 behind a Support Center sign-in. Your own unit's cover ends according to its serial number: sign in to HPE Support Center, open Warranty Check, enter the serial from the product label and read the start and end dates for each service type.

Can I still download firmware for the DL20 Gen10 Plus?

HPE still releases it: the DL20 Gen10 Plus is on the supported-platform list of SPP 2026.07.00.00, whose release notes say a download needs an HPE account login and give no warranty or contract requirement. HPE's SPP warranty-validation note, which has no printed date, says an active warranty or HPE support agreement is required to download the SPP, so HPE's documents disagree. That note lists iLO, drivers, controller components and ProLiant safety and security firmware as available without entitlement validation.

What came after the DL20 Gen10 Plus?

The next model in the same 1U line is the ProLiant DL20 Gen11; the DL20 Gen10 came before the Gen10 Plus. HPE has issued a revised EOL notice for a group of Gen11 servers that names the DL20 in its title. Its dates and product numbers need a sign-in, so read it before buying a DL20 Gen11 for a like-for-like swap.

Can I get third-party maintenance for a DL20 Gen10 Plus?

A third-party maintainer typically supplies diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, and its cover can extend beyond the vendor's own. For a DL20 Gen10 Plus, the request should name the chassis (2 LFF hot-plug, 2 LFF non-hot-plug, or 4 SFF hot-plug with or without the optional 2 SFF), any Smart Array controller and whether the redundant power kit is fitted. A quote can be requested through hardware break-fix support.
