Where the ProLiant DL580 Gen10 stands today
HPE Product Change Notification a00135948 (version 1, 16 November 2023) covers the DL580 Gen10 together with the DL560 Gen10. It says both servers 'are in the End of Life (EOL) process as of the November 01, 2023 EOL date', with all their HPE SKUs transitioning to the EOL phase, and its milestone table gives the DL580 Gen10 a DISC date of 31 March 2024, after which orders 'will be accepted or fulfilled based on factory inventory availability'. The PCN's indexed text gives no obsolescence (OBSO) date for this server, and QuickSpecs a00021850enw (V52, 16 September 2024) now carries an undated RETIRED banner.
Neither the EOL date nor the DISC date is a support date: the PCN's indexed text contains no end-of-support or end-of-engineering-support date. Coverage runs to whatever HPE holds against each serial number, and units bought near the end of sale could still be within HPE's standard warranty of three years' parts, labour and onsite support at next-business-day response. To check, enter the serial from the product label in HPE Warranty Check after signing in to HPE Support Center; a registered server's expiry is based on its purchase date, an unregistered one's on HPE's estimate from the manufacture date. Treat eosl.date's 2029 figure with caution; Park Place has no EOSL page for the DL580 Gen10.
HPE publishes no model-wide support end date for the DL580 Gen10; support ends per unit. To find a unit's dates: (1) Open HPE Warranty Check at https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc and sign in to the HPE Support Center. (2) Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list every service type with its start and end dates and a status: Active (more than 90 days left), Expiring Soon (under 90 days), Expired (ended less than a year ago) or Active in Future. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends
HPE still supports the platform and was releasing DL580 Gen10 firmware after the DISC date. HPE's August 2026 service pack shows it: the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 support guide (PDF created 5 August 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10/DL580 Gen10 (U34) Servers, v3.66_04-01-2026'. Notice a00094704 (version 2, 13 January 2025) names the DL580 Gen10 and says Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 and ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware no longer need entitlement verification: an HPE Passport account suffices, without an active warranty or support agreement, and the licence terms still apply.
An older HPE document contradicts that notice. HPE's SPP validation note, whose text is undated but whose PDF was created on 27 February 2017, makes an active warranty or HPE support agreement a requirement for the SPP, and anyone out of coverage who wants the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD is pointed to HPE sales or a partner. Buying HPE post-warranty or extended support for the DL580 Gen10 is a separate question, and no current HPE source we found confirms it is still possible; independent server third-party maintenance generally provides diagnosis, parts and engineers past a unit's vendor cover.
- HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says no contract is needed for the Gen10 SPP or System ROM. Entitlement verification is no longer required for Gen10 SPPs (2019.12.0 and later) or ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware. Both download with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement. The notice lists the DL580 Gen10 among the affected platforms. Licence terms still apply. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's documents CONTRADICT each other on this point. HPE's 'SPP Warranty/Support Agreement Validation' note (no date in the text; PDF created 27 Feb 2017) says the SPP needs an active warranty or HPE support agreement. It sends out-of-coverage requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD to HPE sales or a partner. It says security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers need no entitlement. We record both statements without picking between them. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 Release Notes (the document says 'Published: August 2026'; HPE Support Center dates it 7 Aug 2026) say both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in'. This page states no warranty or contract requirement. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE was still releasing DL580 Gen10 firmware after the DISC date. The 'Gen10/Gen10 Plus Service Pack for ProLiant 2026.07.00.00 Server Support Guide' (PDF created 5 Aug 2026) lists 'ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10/DL580 Gen10 (U34) Servers, v3.66_04-01-2026'. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL580 Gen10
The DL580 Gen10 is a 4U, four-socket server, and a contract has to reflect how much of it is populated. Depending on model it carries one, two, three or four first-generation (Gold 5100/6100, Platinum 8100) or second-generation (Gold 5200/6200, Platinum 8200) Xeon Scalable processors on the Intel C621 chipset, with 48 DIMM slots (12 per processor) holding up to 6 TB of DDR4 as 48 x 128 GB LRDIMMs. Memory has to follow the processor generation: HPE supports 2666 MT/s SKUs only with first-generation CPUs and 2933 MT/s SKUs only with second-generation, and HPE Persistent Memory (up to 12 TB as 24 x 512 GB) only with second-generation.
Storage starts at 8 hot-plug SFF SAS/SATA bays in the Entry, Base and Performance models and expands with drive-cage options to 48 SFF; options also include an 8 NVMe SSD Express Bay kit or a Premium 6 SFF + 2 NVMe kit. Up to four hot-plug Flex Slot supplies provide power (800 W Platinum or -48 VDC, where four must be ordered; 1000 W Titanium; 1600 W Platinum at 200-240 VAC only; or 1800-2200 W Titanium, capped at 1600 W on Gen10), and all supplies in a server should match. Twelve hot-plug fans give N+1 redundancy. Include the iLO 5 ASIC and list the fitted drive cages, supplies and processors in the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL580 Gen10?
Keeping a DL580 Gen10 on maintenance is reasonable while a four-socket server is still what the workload needs and the software stack fits. HPE's Windows Server matrix lists it for 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, its VMware matrix runs from ESXi 8.0 to 8.0 U3 and on to ESX 9.0 and 9.1, and the U34 System ROM is in HPE's August 2026 SPP.
For VMware estates the processors set the limit. Broadcom KB 318697 lists Cascade Lake Platinum 8200 and Gold 6200/5200 as 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x, still a supported state under the KB, and slated to become 'Discontinued' in a future major release. Under KB 428874 (18 September 2026 update note), first-generation Skylake-SP such as Gold 5100/6100 and Platinum 8100 is supported only in Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x, with no extension 'to VCF releases beyond VCF 9.x'. The next model in the same line is the ProLiant Compute DL580 Gen12, a 4U server for up to four Intel Xeon 6 processors and up to 16 TB of DDR5; in HPE's Windows Server matrix the DL580 row after Gen10 is the Gen12.
- HPE's Windows Server certification matrix (Current Products) lists the DL580 Gen10 for Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, with no installation notes. The next DL580 row in the matrix is the DL580 Gen12; there is no DL580 Gen11 row. Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- HPE's VMware ESXi support matrix lists the DL580 Gen10 for ESXi 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2 and 8.0 U3, and for ESX 9.0 and 9.1. The installation note links Broadcom KBs 318697 and 428874 and says 'HPE will continue to support server with Skylake processor as mentioned in your support contracts.' Read on 2026-10-08. (hpe.com)
- Broadcom KB 318697 marks Cascade Lake Xeon Scalable CPUs (Platinum 8200, Gold 6200/5200) 'Deprecated' in ESX/VCF 9.x and 'Discontinued' in a future major release. The KB says Deprecated mode is still supported. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Broadcom KB 428874 (update note dated 9/18/2026) supports Skylake-SP (1st-gen Xeon Scalable, e.g. Gold 5100/6100 and Platinum 8100) only in Deprecated Mode for VCF 9.x, with no extension 'to VCF releases beyond VCF 9.x'. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- Memory spares must match the processor generation. HPE's QuickSpecs says only 2666 MT/s memory SKUs are supported with 1st-gen processors (81xx/61xx/51xx), only 2933 MT/s SKUs with 2nd-gen processors (82xx/62xx/52xx), and HPE Persistent Memory only with 2nd-gen. (support.hpe.com)
- The next DL580 in HPE's line is the ProLiant Compute DL580 Gen12 (QuickSpecs Version 1 dated 2 Jun 2025; current revision V11, 3 Aug 2026). It is a 4U server with up to four Intel Xeon 6 processors and up to 16 TB of DDR5. HPE Support Center has no DL580 Gen10 Plus or DL580 Gen11 QuickSpecs. (support.hpe.com)
- Standard warranty is 3 years parts, 3 years labour and 3 years onsite support, with next-business-day response. Warranty end dates vary by serial number. Orders were generally taken until the 31 Mar 2024 DISC date and after that only from factory inventory, so units bought near the end of sale may still be in warranty. Check each serial number. Related models
The DL580 Gen10 shares its EOL notice and its System ROM package with the DL560 Gen10: PCN a00135948 covers both servers, and HPE's U34 ROM flash package is listed for the pair. The previous generation in the same line, the DL580 Gen9, has its own QuickSpecs (c04601208) in HPE Support Center. The DL580 Gen10's EOL and DISC dates should not be assumed for other Gen10 rack models, such as the ProLiant DL360 Gen10; the ProLiant Gen10 family overview covers the rest of the generation.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL580 Gen10
Is the HPE DL580 Gen10 end of life?
It is in HPE's end-of-life process: PCN a00135948 set an EOL date of 1 November 2023 and a DISC date of 31 March 2024 for the DL580 Gen10, and both have passed. Neither is an end-of-support date: HPE has published no model-wide end-of-support date, and its August 2026 SPP still includes the DL580 Gen10 System ROM.
Does the DL580 Gen10 have an HPE end-of-support date?
HPE has not published a model-wide one: coverage ends per serial number, which HPE Warranty Check shows. eosl.date, a third-party tracker, lists 31 October 2029 for it, but HPE did not publish that date and the tracker applies the same value to 13 ProLiant Gen10 rows.
Can I still get DL580 Gen10 BIOS updates?
HPE notice a00094704 names the DL580 Gen10 and says ProLiant Gen10 System ROM/BIOS firmware and Gen10 SPPs from 2019.12.0 need only an HPE Passport account, subject to licence terms. A separate HPE note on SPP validation, created as a PDF in 2017, makes the SPP conditional on an active warranty or HPE support agreement, so confirm access with your HPE account. The August 2026 SPP includes the U34 ROM, v3.66_04-01-2026.
What came after the DL580 Gen10?
The next model in the same line is the ProLiant Compute DL580 Gen12, a 4U server for up to four Intel Xeon 6 processors, whose QuickSpecs Version 1 is dated 2 June 2025. HPE Support Center has no DL580 Gen10 Plus or DL580 Gen11 QuickSpecs, and the indexed text of HPE's EOL notice for the DL580 Gen10 names no replacement.
How do I get a maintenance quote for a DL580 Gen10?
A quote can be requested for HPE third-party maintenance, which generally covers diagnosis, parts and engineer visits after vendor cover ends. Give the number and generation of processors, the memory fitted, the drive cages and the Flex Slot supplies so the contract matches the build.
