Where the ThinkSystem SR635 stands today
The 30 June 2033 date comes from Lenovo's own End of Service lookup, queried on 8 October 2026. It applies to 7Y98 and 7Y99 with model codes CTO1WW and CTOLWW in EMEA, and the same date is returned for 7Y99 CTO1WW in the NA, AP and LA geos. Only those base model codes are listed. A preconfigured EMEA model, 7Y99A00HEA, returned no date at all, so a unit sold under a region-specific model code cannot be assumed to share it: ask Lenovo, or use the base-model date as a guide only.
Lenovo's LP1160 change log dates two withdrawal steps: preconfigured EPYC 7002 models for EMEA on 22 June 2022, then 'The SR635 is withdrawn from marketing' on 12 March 2025; no separate withdrawal letter was found. To confirm your own server, choose EMEA in the End of Service Date Lookup and enter the machine type, 7Y98 (one-year warranty) or 7Y99 (three-year warranty), which is the first four characters of the label's machine type/model, followed by the model code. The date is set by geography, machine type and model; the warranty or contract on a given unit is looked up separately, by serial number, in Lenovo's warranty lookup.
Lenovo sets End of Service by geography, machine type and model, not by serial number. Open Lenovo's End of Service Date Lookup (https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht504708) and choose geo EMEA for UK units. Enter the machine type (7Y98 or 7Y99, the first four characters of the machine type/model on the product label) and the model code. On 2026-10-08, CTO1WW and CTOLWW returned 30 Jun 2033. Preconfigured model codes (for example 7Y99A00HEA) returned no date; for those, ask Lenovo, or use the base-model date as a guide only. Warranty and contract end dates are per unit: enter the serial number at https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/warranty-lookup.
What still works after Lenovo support ends
Until 30 June 2033 the SR635's base models sit inside Lenovo's EMEA support window, and firmware downloads need no serial number, as with any Lenovo server product (its storage products do need one with active warranty). The newest platform packages on the 7Y99 list on 8 October 2026 were BMC 7.80 (DS577655, 4 September 2025) and UEFI 7.71 (DS577901, 25 September 2025), both shared with the SR655 and neither flagged as needing login or warranty. For the period after the base-model EOS, Lenovo's EOS notice offers only the general position: support is withdrawn at End of Service, subject to the proviso that 'in some cases, Lenovo will use reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date', and nothing is said about downloads.
The SR635 guide, updated in March 2025, lists warranty upgrades and post-warranty support at Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response and Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response, noting that 'some warranty upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions'. Availability for a particular unit was not verified, so confirm with Lenovo or a Lenovo partner, and weigh the terms against an alternative to Lenovo Premier Support.
- Lenovo server software needs no serial number to download: 'For Lenovo Server products, serial numbers are NOT required to download software.' Lenovo storage is different: it needs a valid serial number with active warranty. SR635 firmware downloads are therefore not tied to a warranty or contract. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo's EOS notice treats End of Service as the withdrawal of support. It says that 'in some cases, Lenovo will use reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date'. It does not say whether firmware downloads stay posted after EOS. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Lenovo warranty upgrades and post-warranty support (Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response, Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response) — Listed in the SR635 product guide (updated Mar 2025), which notes that 'some warranty upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions'. Lenovo's posted EOS for the base models is 30 Jun 2033. Availability for a given unit was not verified; confirm with Lenovo or a Lenovo partner. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ThinkSystem SR635
Start with the management controller, since the SR635 guide does not list the XClarity Controller used on Lenovo's Intel ThinkSystem servers. The SR635 has an ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller, reached through the web-based ThinkSystem System Manager (TSM), plus XClarity Provisioning Manager Lite. Lenovo security advisory LEN-98711 lists the 'ThinkSystem SR635/655' BMC for AMI MegaRAC SP-X vulnerabilities CVE-2022-40259, CVE-2022-40242 and CVE-2022-2827 at High severity, with v5.84 as the minimum fixed version, so record the installed BMC level. Where XClarity Administrator manages the server, the guide says XClarity Administrator v3.2.0 or later is required for full firmware-update support, managed authentication and remote control, and that BMC firmware should be v3.56 or later.
Storage reaches four 3.5-inch or 16 2.5-inch hot-swap bays in 1U: front layouts of four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA, eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA, six SAS/SATA plus four AnyBay, or ten AnyBay, plus optional four NVMe mid bays and two rear bays, with up to 16 NVMe drives, all directly connected. The onboard SATA has no RAID, so hardware RAID needs a 12 Gb SAS/SATA RAID adapter; 12 Gb non-RAID HBAs were also offered. Up to two hot-swap redundant Platinum supplies (550 W, 750 W, 1100 W or 1600 W) or a 1100 W -48 V DC supply provide power, and memory is 16 RDIMM slots up to 2 TB. What third-party maintenance covers varies by contract, but it generally includes diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, and it can continue beyond a vendor's End of Service.

Extend or refresh the ThinkSystem SR635?
With the EMEA base-model EOS more than six years away, an SR635 is a reasonable candidate for extending, whether under a Lenovo post-warranty plan, if Lenovo still offers one for the unit, or a third-party contract. For the EPYC 7003 build, Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 September 2026) gives 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022, ESXi 7.0 U2 through 8.0 U3, and RHEL 9.0 to 9.8; the EPYC 7002 entry lists Windows Server 2016 to 2022 and ESXi 7.0 through 8.0 U3. Check that the BMC is at or above v5.84, the LEN-98711 minimum fixed version.
The operating-system ceiling is what may bring a refresh forward. Both processor entries show no support for Windows Server 2025 or for ESXi 9.0 and 9.1, and the EPYC 7003 entry shows none for RHEL 10, so a host that must move to Windows Server 2025 or ESXi 9 has no certified path on the SR635 whatever its EOS date says, and nor does an EPYC 7003 unit headed for RHEL 10. The OS Interoperability Guide marks the SR635 'Withdrawn' and lists the ThinkSystem SR635 V3 (5th Gen EPYC, machine types 7D9H/7D9G), the next model in the same line, whose own guide says it 'improves on the previous generation SR635'.
- The SR635 BMC is affected by Lenovo advisory LEN-98711 (AMI MegaRAC SP-X BMC vulnerabilities CVE-2022-40259, CVE-2022-40242 and CVE-2022-2827; severity High). The advisory lists the 'Lenovo ThinkSystem SR635/655 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)' with minimum fixed version v5.84. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo is still releasing SR635 firmware. On 2026-10-08 the newest platform firmware on Lenovo's 7Y99 download list was BMC 7.80 (DS577655, dated 4 Sep 2025) and UEFI 7.71 (DS577901, dated 25 Sep 2025), both shared with the SR655. Neither package was flagged as requiring login or warranty. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
- For XClarity Administrator management, the guide says XClarity Administrator v3.2.0 or later is required for full firmware-update support, managed authentication and remote control. It also says the BMC firmware should be v3.56 or later. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 Sep 2026) lists the SR635 with EPYC 7003 as 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022, VMware ESXi 7.0 U2 through 8.0 U3, and RHEL 9.0 to 9.8. It shows no support ('None') for Windows Server 2025, ESXi 9.0 or 9.1, or RHEL 10. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- The OS Interoperability Guide entry for the SR635 with EPYC 7002 also shows no support ('None') for Windows Server 2025 or ESXi 9.0/9.1. It lists Windows Server 2016-2022 and ESXi 7.0 through 8.0 U3 as 'Supported & Certified'. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide marks the SR635 'Withdrawn' and names the ThinkSystem SR635 V3 (5th Gen EPYC, machine types 7D9H/7D9G) as its replacement server. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
- The SR635 V3 product guide says the SR635 V3 'improves on the previous generation SR635'. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)

Related models
In Lenovo's documents the SR635's nearest relative is the SR655: the BMC 7.80 and UEFI 7.71 packages on the SR635 download list are shared with it, and advisory LEN-98711 names the two together as the 'ThinkSystem SR635/655' BMC. Lenovo Press first published the SR635 guide, LP1160, on 7 August 2019, and the same guide's change log carries the 12 March 2025 withdrawal. Lenovo's SR650 and SR630 have a separate end-of-life deep dive.

Questions people ask about the ThinkSystem SR635
When is the Lenovo SR635 end of life?
Lenovo's End of Service date for the SR635 base models CTO1WW and CTOLWW, machine types 7Y98 and 7Y99, is 30 June 2033 in EMEA (queried 8 October 2026). Sales ended earlier: Lenovo's LP1160 change log records the SR635's withdrawal from marketing on 12 March 2025.
Does the 2033 date apply to every SR635?
Not necessarily. Lenovo's lookup lists only the CTO1WW and CTOLWW model codes, and a preconfigured EMEA model, 7Y99A00HEA, returned no date. For other model codes, ask Lenovo or treat the base-model date as a guide only; warranty and contract end dates are per serial number. Other servers in an estate can be run through the server end-of-life checker.
Is the SR635 affected by the AMI MegaRAC BMC vulnerabilities?
Its BMC is listed. Lenovo advisory LEN-98711 names the ThinkSystem SR635/655 BMC for CVE-2022-40259, CVE-2022-40242 and CVE-2022-2827, rated High, with v5.84 as the minimum fixed version, so check the installed level. The newest BMC package on Lenovo's 7Y99 list on 8 October 2026 was 7.80.
Can I run Windows Server 2025 on the SR635?
Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 September 2026) shows no support for Windows Server 2025 on the SR635 with either EPYC 7002 or EPYC 7003. Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 are 'Supported & Certified' on both.
What came after the ThinkSystem SR635?
The ThinkSystem SR635 V3, with 5th Gen EPYC processors, is the next model in the same line. Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide lists it against the SR635, and the SR635 V3 guide says it improves on the previous generation SR635; neither document is an end-of-life notice.
