The e930t at a glance

Our read of HPE’s documentation: where the e930t is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • The 32-core Xeon Gold 6443N brings Intel vRAN Boost, which HPE positions for forward error correction in 5G vRAN.
  • Aimed at telco sites: HPE designs the system to go beyond NEBS Level 3 and GR-3108 Class 1, and lists a NEBS-compliant factory enablement kit (P27140-B21).
  • Up to four PCIe Gen5 x16 slots over two risers, two of them full-height and full-length; the option list names three NVIDIA GPU models (at most two RTX PRO 4500 per blade) and 10/25 GbE or 100 GbE adapters.
  • Each blade operates independently, and HPE says earlier-generation blades can share an EL8000t with it.
  • Every blade includes a three-year iLO Advanced licence, on top of iLO 6, Silicon Root of Trust and an embedded TPM 2.0.

Watch-outs

  • The blade needs an EL8000t or EL8000s chassis, which holds the supplies: at least one is required, two are recommended for redundancy in the EL8000t, and the EL8000s has no redundant option.
  • HPE’s processor table gives a DDR5 figure of 4400 for all three processors, below the 4800 and 5600 MT/s ratings of the DIMM kits, and it gives no slot-population table for the 12 slots on 8 channels.
  • Storage is M.2 NVMe only, with no RAID or HBA controller listed; reaching slots 5–8 means fitting the M.2 kit in the right riser, which gives up the fourth PCIe slot.
  • The 6443N does not support Windows Server and runs PCIe at Gen4 with the lower link speed; the 5411N needs a separate heat sink kit.
  • HPE has reduced the speed of the 7.2 TB M.2 drive; it needs iLO fan settings raised and is supported only to 30 °C ambient.

The e930t takes exactly one processor, from three 4th Gen Xeon Scalable Gold parts: the 32-core 6443N (2.0 GHz, 195 W) with vRAN Boost, the 32-core 6421N (1.8 GHz, 185 W) and the 24-core 5411N (1.9 GHz, 165 W). HPE notes that, being single-socket, the blade leaves UPI unused.

  • The 6443N and 6421N kits come with a factory-installed heat sink; the 5411N (P49639-B21) needs the separate e930t CPU FIO Heat Sink Kit (P90490-B21).
  • HPE’s table gives 4 TB as each processor’s memory maximum, qualified as a figure within this system, against the blade’s own 1.536 TB ceiling.
  • Turbo frequencies and thread counts are not printed; L3 cache is 60 MB on the two 32-core parts and 45 MB on the 5411N.
  • The chipset is Intel C741 (Emmitsburg).
  • Processor option kits and their notes arrived in version 10 of the QuickSpecs (6 April 2026), when the 5411N and its heat sink kit were added.

12 DDR5 DIMM slots

Twelve DDR5 RDIMM slots serve the one processor, which HPE describes as having eight memory channels. Four kits are offered — 16, 32 and 64 GB at DDR5-4800 and a 128 GB DDR5-5600 module — and twelve 128 GB modules give the 1.536 TB maximum.

  • HPE’s processor table gives 4400 for all three processors, in a column headed “DDR5 MHz”, and the QuickSpecs never states what speed the 5600 MT/s kit runs at in this blade.
  • The standard-features table names DDR5-4800 as the supported DIMM type, even though the 128 GB kit carries a 5600 MT/s rating.
  • There is no slot-by-slot population table; HPE points to its general memory population rules and warns that the chosen processor must support the blade’s memory footprint.
  • An order takes between one and twelve DIMMs.

Storage and boot

The blade has no drive bays. Storage is M.2 NVMe: four slots on the system board, fed from the PCH at x2, and four more on the 4-slot NVMe M.2 Enablement Kit in the right riser, fed from the processor at x4. HPE’s maximum is eight 7.2 TB drives, 57.6 TB.

  • The same eight SSD options fit either location: Gen4 read-intensive M.2 2280 drives at 480 GB, 960 GB (also as a self-encrypting model) and 1.92 TB; extended-temperature mixed-use M.2 22110 drives at 960 GB, 1.92 TB and 3.84 TB; and a 7.2 TB read-intensive M.2 22110.
  • HPE describes the SSDs as TCG Opal self-encrypting drives, though only one option has “Self-encrypting” in its name.
  • The feature table labels the M.2 slots NVMe PCIe-3, while seven of the eight SSD options are named as Gen4 parts; the 7.2 TB drive’s name gives no generation.
  • The M.2 Enablement Kit takes the right-riser position instead of the x16 PCIe riser. HPE’s riser note says its slots fit 2280 or 22110 drives; its SSD note calls it an e920 kit for 22110 drives.
  • Boot device: the NS204i-p NVMe OS boot device (P12965-B21), listed among the PCIe add-in options — HPE asks you to check the configured riser can hold the card you choose.

HPE lists three NVIDIA GPUs for the blade: L4 24 GB, L40S 48 GB and RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition 32 GB. The L40S must be ordered with the 2x6 4-pin PCIe 450 W cable kit, and the RTX PRO 4500 is limited to two, sharing one single-wide 165 W splitter cable. Expansion comes from two risers. The mandatory left riser carries two PCIe Gen5 FHFL x16 cards and one HHHL x16 card; the optional right riser adds a fourth HHHL x16 slot or, in its place, four M.2 NVMe slots. A Broadcom BCM5720 provides a 1GbE maintenance link into the chassis.

How the e930t compares with its family

HPE’s other edge-focused models here are stand-alone servers rather than blades: the 1U DL110 Gen12 telco server on a Xeon 6 SoC, and the 2U DL145 Gen11 on AMD EPYC 8004 and 8005, which can be rack, desk or wall mounted. The single-socket 1U DL320 Gen11 runs 4th and 5th Gen Xeon Scalable processors in a rack chassis. The chart takes each figure from that model’s spec file.

vRAN Boost blade for 5G sites

The 6443N is the only processor HPE’s notes tie to Intel vRAN Boost, which it credits with forward error correction in 5G vRAN. Eight 32 GB DIMMs give 256 GB, and an E810-XXVDA2 adds two 10/25 GbE SFP28 ports.

Can the e930t run without an Edgeline chassis?

No. The e930t is a blade that plugs into an HPE Edgeline EL8000t or ProLiant EL8000s 2U chassis, two to a chassis, each running independently. The chassis carries the power supplies, and HPE says to add a chassis controller for each blade that needs iLO networking, since that unit provides the iLO port.

What is the maximum memory of the e930t?

1.536 TB, filling all 12 DIMM slots with 128 GB RDIMMs. HPE’s processor table shows 4 TB per processor as a within-system figure, but the blade’s stated maximum is 12 × 128 GB, and the same table gives a DDR5 figure of 4400.

Which processors does the e930t support?

One of three 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Gold processors: the 6443N (32 cores, 2.0 GHz, 195 W, with vRAN Boost), the 6421N (32 cores, 1.8 GHz, 185 W) or the 5411N (24 cores, 1.9 GHz, 165 W). The blade is single-socket only.

HPE’s server-cartridge figures are 300 W per U typical and 400 W per U maximum.

Is the e930t suitable for harsh environments?

It is aimed at them. HPE’s overview says the system is designed to exceed NEBS Level 3 and GR-3108 Class 1, without naming certified configurations, and the options include a NEBS-compliant FIO Enablement Kit (P27140-B21). Standard inlet is 10–35 °C; approved configurations reach 55 °C, with ASHRAE A3/A4 compliance available. The overview links its 0–55 °C figure to M.2 NVMe SED options, and the 7.2 TB M.2 drive is limited to 30 °C ambient.

How big is the e930t blade?

The blade measures 8.211 × 21.415 × 36.876 cm (H × W × D) and weighs 4.5 kg net. The e930t QuickSpecs does not give dimensions for the EL8000t or EL8000s chassis itself.

Is the HPE e930t end of life?

HPE’s QuickSpecs at version 12 (6 July 2026) still lists the blade as a configure-to-order product and gives no end-of-sale or end-of-service date; its change log retires individual options, not the blade. Check our server end-of-life checker for anything HPE announces later.
