01 — Overview

The DL145 Gen11 at a glance

Our read of HPE’s documentation: where the DL145 Gen11 is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • Up to 84 cores in one socket (EPYC 8635P), with every processor in the range at a default TDP of 225 W or less.
  • Five factory operating-temperature configurations, from 5–35 °C up to −5 to 55 °C; with the standard 2U heat sink, 16 of the 19 processors are supported at 55 °C.
  • Mounts in a 2-post or 4-post rack, on a wall or on a desk, with a filtered bezel for dusty sites — iLO prompts a filter check on a 90-day timer.
  • Six E3.S NVMe bays reach 368.64 TB raw with 61.44 TB drives.
  • Three PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and a PCIe 5.0 OCP 3.0 slot, taking up to three single-wide NVIDIA L4 cards or one double-wide GPU.
  • Rated for 20 G operating shock in the standard specification, and tested to MIL-STD-810H when built with the factory-only Military Ruggedization kit.

Watch-outs

  • Two SFF bays or six E3.S, nothing else: HPE lists no 3.5-inch drives, and SFF SAS hard-drive capacity tops out at 4.8 TB (2 × 2.4 TB).
  • No network port on the board, so data networking has to come from an OCP or PCIe adapter, and the fastest listed is 10/25GbE.
  • Processor and memory generations are locked together: EPYC 8004 only with DDR5-4800 kits, EPYC 8005 only with DDR5-6400 kits.
  • The big GPUs carry conditions: the L40S or RTX PRO 4500 needs the 1U heat sink, which HPE limits to 45 °C ambient, and neither is allowed in the 50 °C or 55 °C configurations.
  • The quiet acoustics mode (a 50–55 dBA target) excludes the five highest-TDP processors, the L40S and the RTX PRO 4500, and allows a single L4.
  • The air filter is a consumable outside the warranty, and HPE advises replacing it every three to six months.

02 — Processors

19 supported processors, mapped

Nineteen processors in two families: twelve 4th Gen EPYC 8004 parts (six P and six lower-TDP PN) and seven 5th Gen EPYC 8005 parts, added in Version 18. They span 8 to 84 cores at default TDPs of 80 W to 225 W; which one suits a site depends as much on its air temperature and heat sink as on core count.

  • With the standard 2U heat sink, HPE’s temperature table drops the 8434P and 8534P at 50 °C and the 8324P as well at 55 °C. All PN parts and every EPYC 8005 part stay supported to 55 °C.
  • With the 1U heat sink, needed for full-length cards, the 8434P and 8534P are not supported at all, the 8224P and 8324P only at 35 °C, and the 8534PN not at 45 °C. The heat-sink notes limit it to processors of 150 W or less, yet its temperature table marks parts above 150 W as supported, from the 155 W 8434PN to every EPYC 8005 model up to the 225 W 8635P.
  • The 2U temperature table lists the 8025P at 90 W and the 8435P at 2.5 GHz and 155 W, against 95 W and 2.45 GHz / 200 W everywhere else in the document.
  • Wattages are each processor’s default configurable TDP.
  • There is no chipset: the platform is a system-on-chip design.
03 — Memory

6 DDR5 DIMM slots

Six RDIMM slots, one per channel, so memory always runs at one DIMM per channel. The processor decides the DIMM family: EPYC 8004 takes the DDR5-4800 kits and EPYC 8005 the DDR5-6400 kits, each in 16, 32, 64, 96 and 128 GB. Six 128 GB modules give 768 GB.

  • Valid quantities are 1, 2, 4 or 6 DIMMs, and every DIMM in a server must share one part number, capacity and rank.
  • LRDIMMs and persistent memory are not supported. Protection modes: Advanced ECC and Online Spare.
  • At 50 °C the 96 GB and 128 GB DDR5-4800 kits are only partly supported (not together with the NVIDIA L4), and at 55 °C not at all; the DDR5-6400 kits are listed as supported up to 55 °C.
  • The 128 GB DDR5-4800 kit is printed as CAS-40-39-39 for the stand-alone part and CAS-46-45-45 for the factory-fit part.
  • For GPU builds HPE recommends at least twice as much system memory as the combined memory of the GPUs.

3 drive-cage kits, up to 6 bays

The chassis ships without a drive cage and at least one must be chosen: a 2SFF cage, or a 4EDSFF cage that a cable kit extends to six E3.S bays. SFF and EDSFF cannot be combined, so these are the complete layouts.

All-flash branch virtualisation host

A 32-core, 130 W EPYC 8324PN — supported to 55 °C on the standard heat sink — with 384 GB of memory and six E3.S NVMe drives behind a cached MR416i-p gives a store or depot a complete virtualisation platform in a box small enough for a wall or desk.

  • 1 × AMD EPYC 8324PN32 cores @ 2.05 GHz, 130 W
  • 6 × 64 GB DDR5-4800 RDIMM — 384 GB, every channel filled
  • 6 × 7.68 TB E3.S NVMe (4EDSFF cage + 6EDSFF cable kit)
  • MR416i-p (8 GB cache) with 6EDSFF cable kit and storage battery
  • NS204i-u boot device (the Gen11 version needs the DL145 enablement kit)
  • Broadcom BCM57414 2 × 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 3.0 adapter
  • 2 × 900–1000 W Titanium Flex Slot supplies (1+1)
  • Windows Server 2025 Datacenter
  • HPE Tech Care Essential

EDSFF needs the four-fan 2U Performance kit, and the MR416i-p needs a battery or hybrid capacitor. Add the desk/wall kit or rack enablement kit to match the site.

11 — FAQ

DL145 Gen11 questions, answered from the documentation

What is the maximum memory of the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11?

768 GB, from six 128 GB RDIMMs — one per channel on six channels. EPYC 8004 processors take the DDR5-4800 kits and EPYC 8005 processors the DDR5-6400 kits; the two cannot be swapped.

Which processors does the DL145 Gen11 support?

Nineteen single-socket AMD EPYC parts: twelve 8004 models (8 to 64 cores, 80–200 W) and seven 8005 models (8 to 84 cores, 95–225 W). The 84-core EPYC 8635P has the most cores.

How many drives does the DL145 Gen11 hold?

Either two SFF drives (SATA, NVMe U.3 and SAS hard drives are listed) or up to six EDSFF E3.S NVMe drives — the two cage types cannot be mixed. An NS204i-u boot device adds two M.2 drives without using a PCIe or OCP slot.

How many GPUs can the DL145 Gen11 take?

Up to three NVIDIA L4 24 GB cards, or one NVIDIA L40S 48 GB or RTX PRO 4500 32 GB. The larger cards need the 1U heat sink, a GPU cable kit and an air baffle, and are excluded from the 50 °C and 55 °C configurations.

What temperatures can the DL145 Gen11 run in?

HPE sells factory configurations from 5–35 °C up to −5 to 55 °C. The 40 °C and 45 °C settings need Extended Ambient Temperature Support enabled in BIOS, while 50 °C and 55 °C need HPE’s High Temperature Support trigger; some processors, DIMMs and GPUs drop out as the limit rises.

How big is the DL145 Gen11 and how can it be mounted?

It is 2U: 8.75 × 35.94 × 40.66 cm without the bezel filter and 50.74 cm deep with it, weighing 11.31–15.61 kg. It fits 2-post or 4-post racks, or a wall or desk with HPE’s mounting kit.

What power supplies does the DL145 Gen11 use?

One or two Flex Slot units with reverse airflow: a 700 W −48 V DC supply, a 700 W Platinum AC supply or a 900–1000 W Titanium AC supply that gives 1000 W on 200–240 V.

Does the DL145 Gen11 have built-in networking?

No. There is no LAN on the board; the OCP 3.0 slot or a PCIe card provides it. HPE lists eight OCP and eight PCIe adapters from 1GbE to 10/25GbE, plus a dedicated 1 Gb iLO port.

How does the DL145 Gen11 differ from the DL110 Gen12?

The DL110 Gen12 is HPE’s 1U telco model with a fixed 40-core Xeon 6 SoC, eight 25GbE ports on the board and M.2-only storage. The DL145 Gen11 is 2U with 19 AMD EPYC choices up to 84 cores, six E3.S or two SFF bays and three GPU slots, but no onboard LAN.

Is the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 end of life?

The DL145 Gen11 QuickSpecs, at Version 22 of 8 September 2026, do not say when HPE will stop selling or supporting the server, and the EPYC 8005 processors were only added in May 2026. Should HPE announce one later, our server end-of-life checker will show it.
