The ProLiant Compute DL110 Gen12 is HPE’s 1U, one-socket telco server: a front-cabled chassis built around a single 40-core Xeon 6 SoC, with eight 25GbE ports on the board and optional GNSS timing for vRAN and 5G edge sites. It has no drive bays at all. This sheet sets out what the QuickSpecs permit, and where that document contradicts itself.

01 — Overview

The DL110 Gen12 at a glance

Our read of HPE’s documentation: where the DL110 Gen12 is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • Eight 25GbE ports are integrated on the board, and HPE’s overview quotes support for up to 20 10/25GbE ports in all.
  • Timing parts for radio sites: an M.2 GNSS receiver, M.2 DPLL modules in 4-hour and 8-hour versions, and Intel E810 adapters in MCLK versions.
  • Telco power: two hot-plug M-CRPS bays for either a 1300 W Titanium AC or a 1000 W −48 V DC unit, both with front-to-rear reverse airflow, and a front-cabled telco lug kit.
  • Networking, supplies and cabling all face the front, and the eight dual-rotor fans can each be replaced hot.
  • Memory runs at 6400 MT/s with one RDIMM on each of four channels, up to 512 GB.
  • iLO 7 with its own 1 Gb port, a USB-C service port at the front and NC-SI access through any Ethernet port.

Watch-outs

  • No drive bays: storage is two M.2 NVMe SSDs on the system board, 3.84 TB at most, and RAID only through a licensed Intel VROC.
  • One processor and no choice: the 6716P-B and its heat sink come with the chassis. HPE gives it as 2.1 GHz in the feature table and 2.5 GHz in the chassis description.
  • Expansion is either/or: two FHHL PCIe 5.0 slots on the riser, or the two OCP bays — ordering the riser removes the OCP options.
  • NEBS Level 3 appears in the overview with a note that certification typically follows 90 days after production; the technical specifications say the document will be updated once NEBS Level 3 and ETSI certification is achieved.
  • Depth is printed two ways: a 17-inch depth in the platform summary, 47.28 cm (18.61 in) in the dimensions table.
  • The DIMM-count rule differs between sections: 1 or 4 in the ordering step, 1, 2 or 4 in the memory section.

There is exactly one processor and no processor step when ordering: the Intel Xeon 6716P-B, an SoC HPE describes as carrying vRAN Boost, media acceleration and integrated networking, arrives inside the configure-to-order chassis together with its heat sink.   • 40 cores, 160 MB of L3 and 235 W are consistent throughout; the base clock is not — 2.1 GHz in the feature table, 2.5 GHz in the base-configuration line.
  • HPE states that Intel AMX in every core delivers up to 3.2× the RAN AI performance per core; that is HPE’s figure.
  • The chipset and UPI entries read N/A — there is no separate chipset and no second socket.

Four RDIMM slots, each on its own channel, so the server always runs one DIMM per channel; processor and kits are rated at 6400 MT/s. Kits come in 32, 64, 96 and 128 GB, all dual-rank; four 128 GB modules make the 512 GB maximum.

  • HPE’s ordering step says the DIMM count must be 1 or 4; the memory section says 1, 2 or 4, twice. Both readings allow one or four.
  • Single-rank and dual-rank DIMMs may not be mixed; every listed kit is dual-rank (x8 for the 32 GB, x4 for the rest).
  • HPE’s two entry acoustic test builds use 2 × 16 GB DIMMs, a size that does not appear in the ordering list.
  • The documented memory performance assumes HPE DDR5 Smart Memory.
04 — Storage

Storage and boot

HPE lists no drive cage, backplane or hot-plug bay for the DL110 Gen12. Its only internal storage is two M.2 NVMe SSDs on the motherboard — 480 GB, 960 GB (also as a self-encrypting drive) or 1.92 TB — for 3.84 TB at most, and none is fitted as standard.

  • Both 2280 and 22110 M.2 lengths are supported; all four SSDs HPE lists are 2280.
  • RAID is CPU-based Intel VROC NVMe, disabled by default and licensed — VROC RAID 1 (S3Q19A) or VROC Premium (R7J57A), one licence per server — giving RAID 0 or 1 depending on the licence.
  • With VROC the two M.2 drives must be identical. A factory-installed OS on a VROC system also needs a RAID setting, and HPE’s custom RAID service requires at least one M.2 drive, a preinstalled OS and a customer intent document.
  • The QuickSpecs list no NS204i-u boot device, no Smart Array or MR controller and no SAS or SATA drives for this server, so any capacity beyond 3.84 TB has to sit outside the server.
  • The optional GNSS and DPLL modules are M.2 parts too. HPE’s acoustic test builds pair one timing/GNSS module with two M.2 SSDs, but the document states no rule for how they share positions.
05Accelerators & I/O

GPUs, PCIe and networking

HPE lists three accelerators: the NVIDIA L4 24 GB and two Qualcomm X100 5G RAN cards, one with GNSS. They go on the riser, which holds up to two PCIe cards of any type — so adding accelerators means giving up the OCP bays. No TDP, card width or per-card maximum is printed.

Expansion runs at PCIe 5.0 in one of two mutually exclusive shapes: a riser with two x16 FHHL slots, or an OCP pair — slot A in dual-width DSFF form (x16 lanes on an x32 connector) and slot B in SFF form. The eight onboard 25GbE ports are there either way.

  • Each OCP kit must carry exactly one card of its type. The only DSFF card is the Intel E830-XXVDA8F with eight 10/25Gb SFP28 ports.
  • SFF OCP cards run from 4 × 1GbE to 2 × 100GbE (Intel E810-CQDA2). PCIe cards add a 2 × 100GbE Mellanox and two HPE data processing unit cards — the 2 × 200 Gb B3220 and the 1 × 400 Gb B3140H, which needs HPE’s power cable for NVIDIA BF3 adapters.
  • For timing-aware networking HPE lists the Intel E810-XXVDA4T MCLK and E810-XXVDA4 MCLK Non-GNSS adapters.
  • HPE’s front-view figure labels five SMA coaxial connectors: 10 MHz in and out, 1PPS in and out, and a GNSS antenna input.

Two M-CRPS supplies, both with reverse airflow to suit the front-cabled layout: a 1300 W Titanium AC unit and a 1000 W −48 V DC unit. Fit one or two, and never a mix of the two.

  • 1000 W −48 V DC: accepts −40 to −72 V DC and delivers 1000 W across that range; up to 3736 BTU/hr at −40 V.
  • DC builds also need a cord or lug kit: a hardwired 10 AWG cord (P89826-B21), a 1000 W lug kit (P89759-B21) or the front-cabled telco lug kit (P89830-B21).
  • The 96 % efficiency (Lot 9) note sits under the 1300 W AC unit in the feature list but under both supplies in the ordering step, so it is unclear whether it also covers the DC unit.

Which processor does the HPE DL110 Gen12 use?

Only one: the Intel Xeon 6 SoC 6716P-B with 40 cores, 160 MB of L3 and a 235 W TDP, supplied with the configure-to-order chassis. HPE prints its base clock as 2.1 GHz in the feature table and 2.5 GHz in the chassis description.

What is the DL110 Gen12’s maximum memory?

512 GB, using four 128 GB DDR5-6400 RDIMMs — one per channel on four channels. The other kits are 32, 64 and 96 GB, all dual-rank.

Does the DL110 Gen12 have drive bays?

No. Storage is two M.2 NVMe SSDs on the motherboard, up to 1.92 TB each for 3.84 TB in total, mirrored with a licensed Intel VROC if required. There are no SFF, LFF or EDSFF bays.

How much networking is built in?

Can the DL110 Gen12 take GPUs or RAN accelerators?

HPE lists the NVIDIA L4 24 GB and two Qualcomm X100 5G RAN accelerators. They use the two-slot riser, which accepts two PCIe cards in total and excludes the OCP bays; no power or quantity limit is printed per card.

What expansion slots does it have?

Either two PCIe 5.0 x16 FHHL slots on a riser, or two OCP 3.0 bays — a dual-width DSFF slot A and an SFF slot B, each with x16 lanes. HPE states that choosing the riser rules out the OCP options.

Does the DL110 Gen12 run on −48 V DC?

Yes. The 1000 W M-CRPS −48 V DC supply accepts −40 to −72 V DC and is ordered with a hardwired cord or lug kit, including a front-cabled telco kit. The alternative is a 1300 W Titanium AC unit; one or two can be fitted, not mixed.

Is the DL110 Gen12 NEBS certified?

HPE’s overview describes NEBS Level 3 compliance, with a footnote that certification typically comes 90 days after production. Its technical specifications say the document will be updated as NEBS Level 3 and ETSI certification is achieved, so check the status for your order.

How deep is the DL110 Gen12?

The dimensions table gives 4.29 × 43.46 × 47.28 cm (1.69 × 17.11 × 18.61 in), while the platform summary mentions a 17-inch depth. Weight runs from 10.66 kg to 12.13 kg, and mounting is 2-post or 4-post rack.

Is the HPE DL110 Gen12 end of life?
