Where the PowerEdge R7525 stands today
Dell's EOSL notifications sheet under KB 000185734 (the 2 October 2026 edition) has two rows bearing the R7525 name, and neither is the general-purpose server. The 'AX-7525' row, under Azure Stack HCI AX, gives an EOL of 31 January 2025 and an EOSS of 31 January 2030. The 'PowerFlex Appliance R7525' row gives an RTS of 27 January 2023, an EOL of 4 November 2024 and an EOSS of 30 November 2029. Those dates describe the appliance and PowerFlex products; the PowerEdge R7525 server has no row, and Dell publishes no end-of-sale or end-of-service-life date for it.
That puts the answer on each unit's Service Tag, which Dell's R7525 Installation and Service Manual locates on the front information tag. Dell KB 000132024 explains that the contract services page then brings up the warranty status and expiration date for that machine. Log the expiry for every tag rather than assuming one date for the fleet.
Dell publishes no model-wide end-of-support date for PowerEdge servers; coverage ends per unit. Read the Service Tag from the information tag on the front of the server (Dell R7525 Installation and Service Manual: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-r7525_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter it at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see that unit's warranty status and expiration date (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).
What still works after Dell support ends
The download rule sits in Dell KB 000128194, revised 31 August 2026: Dell server drivers and firmware are all available free from Dell Support, the BIOS is counted as firmware, and the KB states no warranty or contract condition. Two downloads on the R7525's page matter here: the shared R6525/R7525 BIOS 2.25.1, rated Recommended and dated 30 September 2026, and iDRAC 7.30.30.54, rated Urgent and dated 21 August 2026. Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 has not caught up: its 10 September 2026 revision still names 7.20.80.50 as the R7525's latest, so check builds on the Drivers & Downloads page.
A Dell warranty on an R7525 can be renewed against its Service Tag to cover repairs or replacement parts for Dell-branded hardware, though renewals are not available in every country, and a unit from a reseller may have to be renewed via that reseller. If that route is closed, cover moves outside Dell, where third-party contracts generally provide diagnosis, parts and engineer visits; see an alternative to Dell ProSupport.
- Dell KB 000128194 (last modified 31 Aug 2026) says: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' The KB defines firmware as including the BIOS. It states no warranty or contract condition. (dell.com)
- Dell is still releasing firmware for the R7525. Its Drivers & Downloads page lists 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R6525/R7525 Version 2.25.1' (Recommended, 30 Sep 2026) and 'iDRAC 7.30.30.54' (Urgent, 21 Aug 2026). (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 Version 7.20.80.50 release notes (Rev. A00, December 2025) list the PowerEdge R7525 among the supported '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers'. (dl.dell.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Dell warranty renewal (per Service Tag, where offered) — Dell: 'Dell warranties can be renewed to cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts.' 'Warranty Renewals are not available in all countries.' Units bought through a reseller may need renewing through that reseller. (dell.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge R7525
An R7525 schedule starts with its drives. Dell lists these front layouts for the 2U chassis: eight or twelve 3.5-inch SAS/SATA, eight 2.5-inch NVMe, sixteen 2.5-inch SAS/SATA, or twenty-four 2.5-inch SAS/SATA or NVMe, with up to two 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe bays at the rear. On the controller side, note whether the unit carries a PERC H755 or H755N, an H745 or H345, an HBA345 or HBA355, or S150 software RAID, and whether a BOSS-S1 or BOSS-S2 (2 x M.2) is fitted. The two EPYC 7002 or 7003 processors, of up to 64 cores each, sit alongside up to 32 DDR4 DIMMs: to 2 TB with RDIMMs or 4 TB with LRDIMMs.
Accelerators and power deserve separate lines. The R7525 takes up to three double-wide 300 W or six single-wide 75 W accelerators, and up to two supplies chosen from 800 W Mixed Mode Platinum, 1100 W Mixed Mode Titanium, 1100 W -48 to -60 V DC, 1400 W Mixed Mode Platinum and 2400 W Mixed Mode Platinum. On 100-120 V AC low line the 1400 W unit derates to 1050 W and the 2400 W unit to 1400 W, so a replacement supply must match the input and wattage the build depends on. Management is iDRAC9 with Redfish and iDRAC Direct, and Dell's spec sheet also lists a Quick Sync 2 BLE/wireless module. When pricing server third-party maintenance, confirm in writing whether fitted accelerators are in scope, and request a quote through the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge R7525?
An R7525 on current firmware and running an operating system from Dell's supported list is a reasonable unit to keep. For Microsoft, Dell's list for the R7525 includes Windows Server 2016 through the 2025 LTSC release; for VMware, ESXi 6.5 to 9.0 together with an entry for 'ESXi 9.1 - U1'; and for Linux, RHEL 7 to 9, SLES 15, Ubuntu 18.04 to 22.04 and 'Ubuntu Server 24.04 - U3'. With no model-wide end date published and BIOS and iDRAC releases still arriving in 2026, such a host can stay in service after its warranty, third-party cover generally supplying diagnosis, parts and engineers.
Check two things before committing. Dell's Secure Boot KB names 15th Generation platforms, where Dell's iDRAC9 release notes place the R7525, among those affected by Microsoft's 2011 certificates, which it says 'expire starting June 2026'; that month has gone, and the minimum BIOS that KB 000402373 names for the pair is 2.22.0. Then check the iDRAC build on any unit you keep against 7.30.30.54, the release the R7525's download page rates Urgent. If a workload has outgrown three double-wide accelerators, 4 TB of LRDIMM memory or 64 cores per processor, replacement fits better than maintenance: the PowerEdge R7625 is the next model in the same line, and refurbished Dell PowerEdge servers can be set against it.
- Dell's R7525 Drivers & Downloads page offers iDRAC 7.30.30.54, rated 'Urgent' and dated 21 Aug 2026. Check the iDRAC build on any R7525 you plan to keep in service. (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 (last modified 10 Sep 2026) still shows 7.20.80.50 (December 2025) as the latest iDRAC9 for the R7525. It does not reflect the 7.30.30.54 build on the model's Drivers & Downloads page, so use the Drivers & Downloads page for the current build. (dell.com)
- Dell's iDRAC9 7.20.80.50 release notes (December 2025) list the R7525 under '15th Generation of PowerEdge Servers'. (dl.dell.com)
- Secure Boot certificate rollover: Dell says Microsoft's 2011 Secure Boot certificates 'expire starting June 2026'. It names 14th, 15th and 16th Generation server platforms as affected. (dell.com)
- Dell KB 000402373 (last modified 23 Jun 2026) gives BIOS 2.22.0 as the minimum R6525/R7525 BIOS that includes the updated Microsoft Secure Boot certificates, and says newer BIOS versions also include them. (dell.com)
- Dell's supported-OS list for the R7525 includes Windows Server 2016, 2019 LTSC, 2022 LTSC and 2025 LTSC; VMware ESXi 6.5 to 9.0 (plus an 'ESXi 9.1 - U1' entry); RHEL 7/8/9; SLES 15; Ubuntu 18.04/20.04/22.04 and 'Ubuntu Server 24.04 - U3'. (dell.com)
- Scope trap: Dell's hardware EOSL spreadsheet has an 'AX-7525' row under 'Azure Stack HCI AX' (RTS 2021-08-18, EOL 2025-01-31, EOSS 2030-01-31) and a 'PowerFlex Appliance R7525' row (RTS 2023-01-27, EOL 2024-11-04, EOSS 2029-11-30). Those dates belong to those products, not to a general-purpose PowerEdge R7525 server, which has no row. (supportkb.dell.com)

Dell announced the R7525 on 17 September 2019 among 'Five all-new PowerEdge servers' for 2nd Gen AMD EPYC, with planned availability in 'early 2020', and a Dell blog dated 30 January 2020 then said it 'will begin shipping on February 18th', that is, 18 February 2020. Its firmware partner is the R6525: the BIOS is published as 'R6525/R7525', and the same 2.22.0 Secure Boot minimum covers both. Dell's R7525 Technical Guide (Rev. A14, July 2023) compares it with its predecessor, the PowerEdge R7425. Other PowerEdge pages include PowerEdge R730xd end of life.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge R7525
Has Dell announced end of life for the R7525?
Not for the model as a whole. The R7525 server has no row in Dell's hardware EOSL spreadsheet and Dell publishes no model-wide end-of-sale or end-of-service-life date for it, so each unit's support ends with the warranty or contract on its Service Tag; meanwhile the model's download page lists BIOS 2.25.1 from 30 September 2026.
Do the AX-7525 or PowerFlex R7525 end-of-life dates apply to my server?
Not to a general-purpose PowerEdge R7525. The AX-7525 (Azure Stack HCI AX: EOL 31 January 2025, EOSS 31 January 2030) and the PowerFlex Appliance R7525 (EOL 4 November 2024, EOSS 30 November 2029) are separate products in Dell's spreadsheet, and the server itself has no row there.
When was the Dell R7525 due to start shipping?
Dell announced the R7525 on 17 September 2019 with planned availability in 'early 2020'. A Dell blog post of 30 January 2020 then gave 18 February as the date it would begin shipping, which, from the post's date, means 18 February 2020.
Which BIOS does an R7525 need for the new Secure Boot certificates?
Dell KB 000402373 gives BIOS 2.22.0 as the minimum R6525/R7525 version that includes the updated Microsoft Secure Boot certificates, and says newer versions include them too. The Drivers & Downloads page lists 2.25.1, and per KB 000128194 every Dell server driver and firmware file can be downloaded free.
What came before and after the PowerEdge R7525?
On the forward side the PowerEdge R7625 is the next model in the same line; on the earlier side, the R7525 followed the PowerEdge R7425, which Dell's R7525 Technical Guide uses as its comparison point. Whether to move turns on the accelerator, memory and core limits described above; the Secure Boot BIOS level and the Urgent iDRAC update are firmware checks for any unit you keep.
