Lenovo ThinkSystem SR665 end of life

Lenovo has posted 30 June 2033 as the EMEA End of Service date for the ThinkSystem SR665's base models, CTO1WW and CTOLWW on machine types 7D2V and 7D2W. Lenovo's LP1269 change log recorded the withdrawal of this 2U AMD EPYC server, built with one or two processors, from marketing on 21 April 2026, and the 7D2V download list still carried SR645/SR665 UpdateXpress System Packs dated 7 September 2026, although the newest standalone XCC and UEFI packages date from 2025. What matters for a given unit is its model code and its EPYC generation.

ThinkSystem SR665 support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the ThinkSystem SR665 stands today

The 2033 date has a narrow scope. On 8 October 2026 Lenovo's lookup returned it for 7D2V and 7D2W with model codes CTO1WW and CTOLWW in EMEA, and for 7D2V CTO1WW in the NA, AP and LA geos; no other model codes are listed for these machine types. The product guide's 'for AI' base models, 7D2VCTO5WW and 7D2VCTOHWW, returned no date and preconfigured codes do not appear, so their owners should ask Lenovo or use the base-model date as a guide only. Lenovo files the date by geography, machine type and model: choose EMEA, then enter 7D2V (three-year warranty) or 7D2W (one-year warranty), the label's first four characters, and the model code.

The LP1269 change log recorded the withdrawal of various EMEA preconfigured models on 14 June 2022 and 'The SR665 is withdrawn from marketing' on 21 April 2026; a separate withdrawal letter was not located. One component milestone falls between them: on 10 October 2025 Lenovo withdrew the Performance Fan Option Kit 4F17A14489 from marketing, and because GPUs in the SR665 need Performance fans, GPUs can no longer be configured on CTO factory orders. That is a parts withdrawal, not the server's end of support. For a unit's own warranty or contract, enter its serial number in Lenovo's warranty lookup.

Finding the date for your own unit

Lenovo sets End of Service by geography, machine type and model, not by serial number. Open Lenovo's End of Service Date Lookup (https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht504708) and choose geo EMEA for UK units. Enter the machine type (7D2V or 7D2W, the first four characters of the machine type/model on the product label) and the model code. On 2026-10-08, CTO1WW and CTOLWW returned 30 Jun 2033. Other model codes, including preconfigured models and the 'for AI' base models CTO5WW and CTOHWW, returned no date; for those, ask Lenovo, or use the base-model date as a guide only. Warranty and contract end dates are per unit: enter the serial number at https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/warranty-lookup.

What still works after Lenovo support ends

Lenovo still issues SR665 software. Besides the newest platform firmware, XCC 6.60 (DS577644, 4 September 2025) and UEFI 3.70 (DS577452, 29 August 2025), both shared with the SR645 and neither flagged as needing login or warranty, the 7D2V download list on 8 October 2026 carried SR645/SR665 UpdateXpress System Packs dated 7 September 2026 for Windows Server 2025, RHEL 10.2 and SLES 16.0. Because Lenovo requires no serial number to download software for its server products, SR665 firmware downloads are not tied to a warranty or contract; Lenovo storage is the exception, needing a serial number with active warranty.

Once the EMEA base-model date passes, Lenovo's EOS notice describes End of Service as the withdrawal of support, adds that 'in some cases, Lenovo will use reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date', and is silent on whether firmware downloads stay posted. The SR665 guide (updated 21 April 2026) lists upgrades from Standard Next Business Day to Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response, plus Premier Support and Premier Support Plus for Infrastructure, noting that 'some warranty upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions'. Whether a given unit qualifies was not verified, so ask Lenovo or a Lenovo partner.

  • Lenovo server software needs no serial number to download: 'For Lenovo Server products, serial numbers are NOT required to download software.' Lenovo storage is different: it needs a valid serial number with active warranty. SR665 firmware downloads are therefore not tied to a warranty or contract. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
  • Lenovo's EOS notice treats End of Service as the withdrawal of support. It says that 'in some cases, Lenovo will use reasonable commercial endeavors to maintain eligible products beyond the EOS date'. It does not say whether firmware downloads stay posted after EOS. (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)

Vendor support you can still buy

  • Lenovo warranty upgrades and post-warranty support (Standard Next Business Day, Premier Next Business Day, Premier 24x7 4-Hour Response, Premier Support Plus 24x7 4-Hour Response); Premier Support / Premier Support Plus for Infrastructure — Listed in the SR665 product guide (updated 21 Apr 2026), which notes that 'some warranty upgrades may not be available in all markets or regions'. Lenovo's posted EOS for the base models is 30 Jun 2033. Availability for a given unit was not verified; confirm with Lenovo or a Lenovo partner. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ThinkSystem SR665

SR665 contracts need detail because of the chassis's range. Front, middle and rear, it takes up to 20 3.5-inch or 40 2.5-inch hot-swap bays in SAS/SATA, NVMe or AnyBay combinations, plus two rear 7 mm drives and an internal M.2 module with up to two drives, so record which positions are populated. The onboard NVMe and SATA have no RAID; hardware RAID uses 12 Gb adapters (RAID 530i-8i/16i cacheless, 930-8i/16i, or 940-8i/16i/32i with up to 8 GB of flash-backed cache), and 430/440 HBAs were also offered. Memory runs to 32 RDIMM or 3DS RDIMM slots with two processors, up to 8 TB with 32x 256 GB 3DS RDIMMs.

Power supplies are 500 W, 750 W, 1100 W or 1800 W, 80 PLUS Platinum or Titanium AC, or a 1100 W -48 V DC unit, up to two per server, hot-swap and redundant. GPU-equipped units rely on Performance fans, whose option kit 4F17A14489 is withdrawn from marketing, and Lenovo's guide says that adding GPUs as a field upgrade requires all Standard fans to be replaced with Performance fans. The XClarity Controller (Pilot4 XE401 BMC) and its dedicated RJ-45 1 GbE port complete the list. Cover arranged as server third-party maintenance typically spans fault diagnosis, parts and engineer attendance, and can run past a vendor's End of Service.

Extend or refresh the ThinkSystem SR665?

Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide, updated on 30 September 2026, rates the EPYC 7003 SR665 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016 through 2025, ESXi 7.0 U1 through 9.1, RHEL 9.0 to 9.8 and 10.0 to 10.2, and SLES 16. With those releases certified, an EMEA base-model EOS more than six years away and UpdateXpress packs issued in September 2026, keeping an EPYC 7003 SR665 on maintenance after its warranty is a reasonable plan.

The exceptions are specific. An EPYC 7002 unit has no Windows Server 2025 support in the same guide, although ESXi 9.0/9.1 and RHEL 10 are certified, so confirm the processor generation before a Windows move. A unit that needs GPUs added depends on Performance fans whose option kit has been withdrawn from marketing, and for GPU configurations Lenovo's guide points to the SR665 V3. Where either rules a unit out, the ThinkSystem SR665 V3 (5th Gen EPYC, machine types 7D9B/7D9A), which the OS Interoperability Guide also lists against the SR665, is the next model in the same line.

  • Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide (data updated 30 Sep 2026) lists the SR665 with EPYC 7003 as 'Supported & Certified' for Windows Server 2016 through 2025, VMware ESXi 7.0 U1 through 9.1 (including 9.0 and 9.1), RHEL 9.0 to 9.8 and 10.0 to 10.2, and SLES 16. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
  • The OS support split depends on the processor generation. The OS Interoperability Guide shows no support ('None') for Windows Server 2025 on the SR665 with EPYC 7002, though ESXi 9.0/9.1 and RHEL 10 are 'Supported & Certified'. Check which EPYC generation a unit has before planning a Windows Server 2025 move. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
  • GPUs on the SR665 need Performance fans, which Lenovo has withdrawn from marketing. When adding GPUs as field upgrades, the guide says 'you will be required to replace all Standard fans with Performance fans'. For GPU configurations Lenovo points to 'the follow-on model, SR665 V3'. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)
  • Lenovo is still releasing SR665 firmware. On 2026-10-08 the newest platform firmware on Lenovo's 7D2V download list was XCC 6.60 (DS577644, dated 4 Sep 2025) and UEFI 3.70 (DS577452, dated 29 Aug 2025), both shared with the SR645. Neither package was flagged as requiring login or warranty. The list also showed SR645/SR665 UpdateXpress System Packs dated 7 Sep 2026 for Windows Server 2025 (DS582793), RHEL 10.2 (DS582789) and SLES 16.0 (DS582785). (datacentersupport.lenovo.com)
  • Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide marks the SR665 'Withdrawn' and names the ThinkSystem SR665 V3 (5th Gen EPYC, machine types 7D9B/7D9A) as its replacement server. (lenovopress.lenovo.com)

Lenovo pairs the SR665 with the SR645 in its downloads: both platform packages above are shared with the SR645, and the UpdateXpress System Packs dated 7 September 2026 cover SR645/SR665 as one. The SR665's own documentation is the LP1269 guide, first published on 5 May 2020 and updated on 21 April 2026, the date its change log records the withdrawal. Two other Lenovo servers, the SR650 and SR630, get their own treatment in the SR650 and SR630 end-of-life deep dive.

Each bar runs from release to the milestone that marks end of support for the model as a whole. Amber bars end on a third-party tracker's date, not the vendor's. A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the ThinkSystem SR665

What is the SR665's End of Service date?

30 June 2033 in EMEA, for SR665 base models CTO1WW and CTOLWW on machine types 7D2V and 7D2W, as Lenovo's lookup showed on 8 October 2026. The 'for AI' base models CTO5WW and CTOHWW returned no date, and preconfigured model codes are not listed.

Is the ThinkSystem SR665 end of life?

Lenovo's LP1269 change log records its withdrawal from marketing on 21 April 2026, so Lenovo no longer sells it new. Its posted End of Service for the EMEA base models is 30 June 2033, and SR645/SR665 UpdateXpress packs dated 7 September 2026 were on its download list in October 2026.

Is the SR665 certified for Windows Server 2025 and ESXi 9?

With EPYC 7003 processors, yes: Lenovo's OS Interoperability Guide lists Windows Server 2016 through 2025 and ESXi 7.0 U1 through 9.1 as 'Supported & Certified'. With EPYC 7002, the guide shows no Windows Server 2025 support, though ESXi 9.0/9.1 and RHEL 10 are certified.

Can I still add GPUs to an SR665?

GPUs in the SR665 need Performance fans, and Lenovo withdrew the Performance Fan Option Kit 4F17A14489 from marketing on 10 October 2025, so GPUs can no longer be configured on CTO factory orders. For field upgrades, Lenovo's guide says all Standard fans must be replaced with Performance fans, and it points GPU configurations to the SR665 V3.

Is third-party maintenance an option for the SR665?

It can be. Such cover generally includes diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits from a provider other than Lenovo, and it can continue after Lenovo's End of Service. For a quote through the maintenance coverage builder, list the drive positions in use, the RAID adapter, any GPUs and Performance fans, and the power supplies; for background, see Lenovo third-party maintenance.
