It holds one Intel CPU from the Xeon 6300, Xeon E-2400 or Pentium lines, four DDR5 UDIMM slots, four non-hot-plug 3.5-inch bays and two low-profile PCIe slots. This page sets out what fits, the power-adapter rule and where it stops short of the ML30 Gen11.

01 — Overview

The MicroServer Gen11 at a glance

Our read of HPE’s documentation: where the MicroServer Gen11 is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • A 15.4 × 26.1 × 24.9 cm chassis weighing 8.52–8.65 kg that can lie flat, stand on end or mount on a brick, concrete or wooden wall.
  • Twelve processors, including nine Xeon 6300 parts up to the 12-core 6377P, with the same four-UDIMM, 128 GB memory ceiling as the larger ML30 Gen11.
  • iLO 6 works from delivery over shared NIC port 1 with no module or activation key; a dedicated iLO port is an option, not a requirement.
  • A PCIe 5.0 x16 slot that takes a low-profile NVIDIA RTX A400, beside a Gen4 slot and four onboard 1GbE ports.
  • HPE declares 24 dBA at the bystander position, idle and operating, for all three of its standard builds.

Watch-outs

  • Storage is four non-hot-plug SATA bays: HPE lists 16 TB (4 × 4 TB HDD) or 3.84 TB (4 × 960 GB SSD) at most, and no SAS or NVMe drives.
  • Power comes from one external adapter with no redundancy, and any processor above 65 W needs the 330 W adapter.
  • One non-redundant system fan; HPE warns that processors above 65 W, a GPU, SSDs or NVMe M.2 can lift noise above the declared figures.
  • Standard warranty is one year for parts, labour and on-site support, against three years of parts cover on the ML30 Gen11.
  • HPE’s OS note limits VMware to Xeon E processors and excludes the Pentium, without mentioning the Xeon 6300 series; the embedded VROC SATA RAID has no VMware support at all.

02 — Processors

12 supported processors, mapped

Twelve processors are listed for the MicroServer Gen11. The Xeon 6300 series provides nine, from quad-core to 12-core; the Xeon E-2400 series contributes two, the E-2434 and E-2414; and the Pentium G7400 is the two-core option. Ratings climb from 46 W to 95 W, and the power adapter must follow — every part above 65 W calls for the 330 W unit.

  • Five processors exceed 65 W and so need the 330 W adapter: the 6377P, 6369P and 6349P at 95 W, and the 6357P and 6337P at 80 W.
  • This document prints thread counts; its cache column is headed Smart Cache and gives the 12-core 6377P 16 MB, where the ML30 Gen11 QuickSpecs show 36 MB of L3.
  • The Performance 1 pre-configured model lists its E-2414 at 2.8 GHz, while the processor table and option kit give 2.6 GHz.
  • HPE flags the Pentium G7400 as non-compliant with Energy Star 4.0.
  • The chipset is Intel’s C262, with management on the HPE iLO 6 ASIC.

Four DDR5 slots on two channels of two, ECC UDIMMs only, in 16 GB single-rank or 32 GB dual-rank kits — 128 GB at most. HPE recommends populating one, two or four DIMMs.

  • HPE’s speed table covers Xeon E and Pentium processors; no equivalent table is printed for the Xeon 6300 series, whose rows state 4400 MT/s.
  • Both DIMMs in a channel must match in capacity, and mixing capacities anywhere in the server is not recommended.
  • Kits are sold as DDR5-4800 but listed with a native speed of 5600 MT/s; the server runs them at up to 4400 MT/s.
  • Non-ECC UDIMMs, RDIMMs and LRDIMMs are not supported. Protection is ECC.
04 — Storage

2 drive-cage kits, up to 4 bays

Four non-hot-plug 3.5-inch SATA bays sit behind the front bezel, and that is the whole drive estate. 2.5-inch SATA SSDs fit only in HPE MicroServer Gen10 SFF converter kits, one per drive, and a server holds either 3.5-inch drives or converted 2.5-inch SSDs — never both.

The standard non-hot-plug cage. HPE lists 1 TB and 4 TB 7.2K SATA hard drives, so the ceiling is 16 TB with four 4 TB drives.

  • Embedded Intel VROC SATA hybrid RAID offers RAID 0/1/5/10. It is disabled by default (the BIOS defaults to AHCI), runs in UEFI mode, supports Windows Server and Linux but not VMware, and cannot build a volume across drives of different form factors.
  • For controller-based RAID HPE lists the MR408i-p (4 GB cache, with a battery or hybrid-capacitor energy pack) and the cacheless MR216i-p, each needing the MicroServer Gen11 controller cable kit (P68413-B21); the E208e-p serves external SAS storage.
  • Because the MicroServer supports non-hot-plug operation only, HPE warns that some storage controller functions may be unavailable.
  • The optional iLO/M.2/serial kit (P65741-B21, shared with the ML30 Gen11) adds one M.2 slot, but the M.2 SSD is ordered separately and none appears in the current option lists (Version 14 removed obsolete M.2 drive SKUs). No NS204i-u boot device is listed.
  • Install HPE’s Agentless Management Service in the operating system: fan control depends on it for drive-temperature readings, and noise can rise if it is missing.

GPUs, PCIe and networking

One low-profile card: the NVIDIA RTX A400 4 GB, which must go in PCIe slot 1. HPE’s guidance is main memory of no less than double the GPU’s own memory — 8 GB in this case, below a single 16 GB DIMM. One single-wide NVIDIA RTX A400 4 GB, low-profile bracket, slot 1 only.

Two low-profile slots. Slot 1 is PCIe 5.0 with sixteen lanes; slot 2 is PCIe 4.0 with four lanes in an x8 connector. The document mentions no OCP slot, so extra networking means a PCIe card alongside the four embedded 1GbE ports.

Power arrives through a single external brick instead of an internal supply: a 180 W adapter with a C5 cord, or a 330 W adapter with a C13 cord. The 330 W unit is compulsory for processors above 65 W, and neither choice offers redundancy.

How the MicroServer Gen11 compares with its family

Of the one-processor Gen11 ProLiants that use Intel’s Xeon 6300, Xeon E and Pentium chips, the MicroServer is the ultra micro tower. The ML30 Gen11 tower keeps the 128 GB UDIMM ceiling but adds hot-plug bays, four full-height slots and redundant power; the DL20 Gen11 puts the same processor families into a 1U rack server; and the ML110 Gen11 moves to Xeon Scalable processors and sixteen RDIMM slots.

Three builds that suit the MicroServer Gen11

HPE positions the MicroServer for NAS, virtualisation and edge work, so here is one build for each. The parts come from the options our configurator permits on this chassis, and every build loads there for tweaking.

Office NAS

File and backup box for a small office

HPE names NAS duty among the MicroServer’s roles. The E-2434 is a 55 W four-core part, so the build stays on the 180 W adapter, and four 4 TB SATA disks reach the 16 TB ceiling HPE lists. Embedded VROC provides RAID 5 or 10 without a controller card.

Small virtualisation

Twelve-core virtualisation box on SSD

HPE also lists virtualisation among the MicroServer’s jobs. The 12-core Xeon 6377P and four 32 GB UDIMMs (the 128 GB maximum) make a small Windows Server host, four SATA SSDs in converter kits hold the virtual machines, and a two-port 10GBASE-T card takes one slot.

The 95 W 6377P requires the 330 W adapter, and HPE notes processors above 65 W and SSDs may raise noise. Capacity is small: the 960 GB SSD is only a customer-installed upgrade. Store or site video box with an RTX A400

For edge sites that record and analyse camera feeds, the RTX A400 in slot 1 adds a GPU without leaving the MicroServer’s footprint. The eight-core, 65 W Xeon 6353P handles ingest and four 4 TB disks store footage; the build specifies the 330 W adapter, which HPE describes as intended for higher-power options.

What is the maximum memory of the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen11?

The ceiling is 128 GB, with every one of the four DDR5 slots holding a 32 GB ECC UDIMM. Kits come in 16 GB single-rank and 32 GB dual-rank sizes only; RDIMMs, LRDIMMs and non-ECC modules are not supported. Memory runs at up to 4400 MT/s, and with Xeon E or Pentium processors HPE’s table gives 4000 or 3600 MT/s when two DIMMs share a channel.

Which processors does the MicroServer Gen11 support?

You choose one of twelve Intel chips: nine Xeon 6300 models from 4 to 12 cores, the Xeon E-2434 or E-2414, or a Pentium G7400 with two cores. Five of the Xeon 6300 models are rated above 65 W (80 W or 95 W), and those require the 330 W external adapter.

How many drives does the MicroServer Gen11 hold?

Four, all non-hot-plug SATA. The standard cage takes 3.5-inch hard drives up to 4 TB each (16 TB in total), or four 2.5-inch SATA SSDs in converter kits, one per drive, up to 3.84 TB. The two drive types cannot be mixed, and there are no SAS or NVMe drive options.

Does the MicroServer Gen11 support a GPU?

Yes, one single-wide card: the NVIDIA RTX A400 4 GB with a low-profile bracket, which must be installed in PCIe slot 1. HPE recommends system memory of at least twice the GPU memory. A GPU may raise noise above HPE’s declared figures.

Does the MicroServer Gen11 have iLO remote management?

Yes. HPE iLO 6 is enabled by default through the shared network port 1, and HPE states it needs no extra module or activation key. The optional iLO/M.2/COM kit (P65741-B21), shared with the ML30 Gen11, adds a dedicated iLO port, an M.2 slot and a serial port. iLO Advanced licences and Compute Ops Management are available on top.

What power supply does the MicroServer Gen11 use?

An external power adapter rather than an internal supply: 180 W with a C5 cord or 330 W with a C13 cord. Only one is fitted, so there is no redundancy. Processors above 65 W require the 330 W adapter, and HPE describes it as intended for configurations with higher-power options.

How big and how loud is the MicroServer Gen11, and can it be wall-mounted?

It measures 15.4 × 26.1 × 24.9 cm (H × W × D, with feet) and weighs 8.52 to 8.65 kg. HPE declares 24 dBA at the bystander position, idle and operating, for its three standard builds. The wall mount kit (P69315-B21) suits brick, concrete or wooden walls but not drywall, and the surface must bear five times the combined weight of server and bracket.

Which operating systems does the MicroServer Gen11 support?

HPE lists Microsoft Windows Server, VMware ESXi, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Canonical Ubuntu and XenServer, without versions; for certified releases it points to its server OS support pages. Its note restricts VMware to Xeon E processors, excluding Pentium, and the embedded VROC SATA RAID has Windows Server and Linux support only.

Should I choose the MicroServer Gen11 or the ML30 Gen11?

Both use Xeon 6300, Xeon E-2400 or Pentium processors and top out at 128 GB. The MicroServer is far smaller and can be wall-mounted, but has four non-hot-plug bays, two low-profile slots, an external adapter and one year of warranty. The ML30 Gen11 adds hot-plug bays (up to eight SFF), four full-height slots, redundant Flex Slot supplies and three years of parts cover.

Is the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen11 end of life?

Nothing in HPE’s Version 16 QuickSpecs (3 August 2026) points that way: the revision actually added the Xeon 6377P, and nowhere does the document state an end-of-sale or end-of-support date. To see the current lifecycle position, use our server end-of-life checker.
