The PowerEdge T360 is a 4.5U single-socket tower for offices and branch sites that need more disk than the compact T160 holds: one Xeon 6300, Xeon E-2400 or Pentium processor, four DDR5 UDIMM slots and up to eight 3.5-inch bays. Below we set out the four PCIe slots, the storage and power choices, and the fan and noise rules that decide whether it can sit beside people.

01 — Overview

The T360 at a glance

Our read of Dell’s documentation: where the T360 is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • Nineteen processor options on one socket — nine Xeon 6300, eight Xeon E-2400 and two Pentium — from 35 W to 95 W, topped by the 12-core Xeon 6377P.
  • Dell calls it suitable for typical offices, and its lightest test builds measured 24 dB idle and 27 dB operating at the bystander position.
  • A x16 PCIe Gen5 slot for the GPU or RAID card, three Gen4 slots beside it, and BOSS-N1 boot on an internal connector rather than a PCIe slot.
  • The front takes 3.5-inch drives, 2.5-inch drives in adapters, or a six-plus-two layout that adds two direct-attached NVMe SSDs.
  • A single cabled 450 W Platinum supply for the simplest builds, or a hot-swap pair of 600 W Platinum or 700 W Titanium units in 1+1.

Watch-outs

  • Memory stops at 128 GB: four unbuffered ECC slots, 16 or 32 GB modules, and no RDIMM option.
  • A 5600 MT/s rating buys nothing here — Dell runs every listed DIMM at 4400 MT/s with one per channel and 4000 or 3600 MT/s with two.
  • Fitting the A2 or a 10 GbE card pushes fan speeds past what Dell considers office-suitable; its GPU test build hit 63 dB operating.
  • Networking tops out at 10GbE on a PCIe card, and in ASHRAE A3/A4 conditions Dell rules out cooling redundancy (it cites a single fan in a separated cooling zone), the GPU and BOSS-N1.
  • The eight-bay maximum is 128 TB raw, since the T360 drive list stops at 16 TB per 3.5-inch drive; Dell’s same table quotes 160 TB for the T350.

19 supported processors, mapped

Dell lists nineteen processors for the T360 across three families, all for its single socket: the Xeon 6300 series (4 to 12 cores), the Xeon E-2400 series (4 to 8 cores) and two dual-core Pentiums. The chart plots cores against TDP. Nothing on the list exceeds 95 W, and Dell’s thermal matrix clears every listed TDP for both the four-bay and the eight-bay 3.5-inch chassis it covers.

  • The 95 W parts take the high-performance (HPR) heat sink; 80 W and below use the standard heat sink, and every TDP runs on the standard system fan.
  • Dell records turbo only as present or absent, with no turbo clocks; the Pentium G7400 and G7400T are the two parts without it.
  • Each processor row shows 4800 MT/s and 128 GB, but the memory chapter sets the speed the T360 actually runs its UDIMMs at (see Memory).
  • Dell states that Xeon 6300 series processors do not support Windows Server 2019.
  • Xeon 6300, Xeon E-2400 and Pentium parts alike provide 16 PCIe Gen5 lanes at 32 GT/s and 4 Gen4 lanes at 16 GT/s.

4 DDR5 DIMM slots

Four DDR5 slots, unbuffered ECC only. Dell lists 16 GB single-rank and 32 GB dual-rank UDIMMs, each in 4800 and 5600 MT/s ratings, so the ceiling is four 32 GB modules — 128 GB.

  • Dell gives identical operating speeds for 4800- and 5600-rated modules, so the higher rating does not change what the T360 runs at.
  • Adding modules for capacity costs bandwidth: 32 GB UDIMMs fall from 4400 to 3600 MT/s when two share a channel.
  • The T350 had the same 128 GB UDIMM ceiling on DDR4 at up to 3200 MT/s.
  • All modules are 1.1 V DDR5 with an x8 data width.
04 — Storage

3 drive-bay layouts, up to 8 bays

Three front options, each built around 3.5-inch bays: four SATA bays, eight SAS/SATA bays, or six SAS/SATA bays alongside two direct-attached 2.5-inch NVMe SSDs. Smaller 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives fit the 3.5-inch bays through a hybrid carrier or a 3.5-to-2.5-inch adapter.

  • Dell’s T360 drive list runs to 16 TB on 3.5-inch SAS and SATA hard drives and to 7.68 TB on 2.5-inch SAS and NVMe SSDs; 2.5-inch SATA SSDs stop at 3.84 TB.
  • SAS3 runs at 12 Gbps and SATA at 6 Gbps, with the controller setting the drive speed. The four-bay front is SATA only, and S160 software RAID handles SATA only, so SAS drives need the eight-bay or six-plus-two front and a PERC or HBA adapter.
  • Internal PERC and HBA adapters take slot 2 first, then slot 1, with at most one of each; up to two external adapters use the same pair of slots.
  • BOSS-N1 carries two M.2 NVMe SSDs in hardware RAID for the operating system. It plugs into an internal connector rather than a PCIe slot and sits behind the front panel, above the drive cage.
  • For capacity outside the tower, the guide names three routes: tape drives over USB, NAS/IDM appliance software, and Dell’s 12 Gb MD-series JBOD shelves.

GPUs, PCIe and networking

One card in one slot. Dell documents a single single-width 60 W accelerator, names the NVIDIA A2, and assigns it to slot 2 — the only x16 Gen5 slot. The T350 had no GPU option at all. One NVIDIA A2 (single-width, 60 W) in slot 2; it needs the HPR PCIe fan and shroud and is not supported in ASHRAE A3 or A4.

Dell offers no riser for the T360, so all four slots sit on the system board. The guide’s slot diagram wires slots 1 and 2 to the processor and slots 3 and 4 to the platform controller hub (the chipset). Networking is the onboard pair of 1GbE ports plus PCIe network cards.

  • Dell’s slot-priority table puts the GPU in slot 2 only, RAID and HBA adapters in slot 2 then 1, and network cards in slots 2, 1 and 4, up to three of them.
  • Slot 3 is a single-lane Gen4 slot on the chipset, and none of the cards in Dell’s priority table is assigned to it.
  • All four slots are full height, half length, and none is hot-swappable.
  • Network cards stop at 10GbE: four-port 1GbE from Broadcom or Intel, or two- and four-port 10GbE (port type BT) from either vendor.

  • The 700 W Titanium unit has no low-line rating and needs 200–240 V AC or 240 V DC; the 450 W and 600 W units run from 100–240 V AC, and the 600 W also from 240 V DC.
  • Heat output at full rating is 1730 BTU/hr for the 450 W, 2250 BTU/hr for the 600 W and 2625 BTU/hr for the 700 W supply.
  • Mismatched pairs are not combined: at POST only the higher-wattage unit is enabled, with a warning, and a unit added while running must equal the first.

Close to Dell’s own “Entry” acoustic build — a 65 W processor, 16 GB UDIMMs, the four-bay 3.5-inch chassis on chipset SATA and the cabled 450 W supply — which measured 24 dB idle and 27 dB operating at the bystander position. The 8-core Xeon 6353P is one of the 65 W parts on Dell’s list.

A single cabled supply means no power redundancy, and the four-bay chassis takes SATA drives only. SAS drives need the eight-bay or six-plus-two front and a PERC or HBA adapter in slot 2 or 1, because S160 is SATA-only.

The 12-core Xeon 6377P and the full 128 GB carry a small VM estate. The six-plus-two front puts two NVMe SSDs beside six 3.5-inch bays for bulk data, and BOSS-N1 keeps the hypervisor off the front drives. Redundant 600 W supplies and 10GbE uplinks suit a comms cupboard rather than an open office.

Surveillance recorder with an NVIDIA A2

Dell positions the T360 for near-edge video and audio analysis, surveillance and VDI, and its one GPU option is the A2. This build fills all eight 3.5-inch bays for footage, puts the A2 in slot 2 and the PERC in slot 1 as Dell’s slot priorities require, and runs from a redundant 600 W pair as Dell’s own GPU test build did.

Dell’s GPU test build measured 41 dB idle and 63 dB operating, and Dell does not recommend GPU work in acoustically sensitive rooms. Its power-capping option cuts sound power from 7.5 to 5.9 bels at the cost of as much as a fifth of GPU performance. The A2 needs the HPR PCIe fan and shroud and is not supported in ASHRAE A3/A4.

T360 questions, answered from the documentation

What is the maximum memory of the Dell PowerEdge T360?

The T360 has four DDR5 slots that take unbuffered ECC UDIMMs only, in 16 GB or 32 GB sizes, so the ceiling is 128 GB with four 32 GB modules. Dell rates the modules at 4800 or 5600 MT/s, but its memory table runs all of them at 4400 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and at 4000 or 3600 MT/s with two.

Which processors does the T360 support?

One processor from nineteen options: nine Xeon 6300 series parts with 4 to 12 cores, eight Xeon E-2400 parts with 4 to 8 cores, and the dual-core Pentium G7400 and G7400T. TDP runs from 35 W to 95 W. Dell notes that Xeon 6300 processors do not support Windows Server 2019.

How many drives does the T360 hold?

Up to eight at the front. Dell offers four 3.5-inch SATA bays, eight 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays (also usable with 2.5-inch drives in adapters), or six SAS/SATA bays plus two direct-attached 2.5-inch NVMe SSDs. Boot can move off the front bays to a BOSS-N1 module with two M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Does the T360 support a GPU?

Yes, one. Dell documents a single single-width 60 W accelerator, the NVIDIA A2, in PCIe slot 2. It needs the high-performance PCIe fan and shroud, is not supported in ASHRAE A3/A4 conditions, and Dell advises against GPU workloads in acoustically sensitive rooms.

How many PCIe slots does the T360 have?

Four, with no riser. Slot 1 (x8 Gen4) and slot 2 (x16 Gen5) run from the processor, while slot 3 (x1 Gen4) and slot 4 (x8 Gen4) run from the chipset; all are full height, half length. Beyond the two onboard 1GbE ports, extra networking uses those PCIe slots.

What power supplies does the T360 use?

Either one cabled 450 W Platinum supply or two hot-swap supplies in 1+1 redundancy: 600 W Platinum (100–240 V AC or 240 V DC) or 700 W Titanium (200–240 V AC or 240 V DC only). If two different wattages are fitted, only the larger one is enabled.

Can the T360 sit in an office, and how big is it?

Dell calls it suitable for typical offices: its quietest builds measured 24 dB idle and 27 dB operating at the bystander position at 25°C, although a GPU or 10 GbE card raises fan speeds beyond office levels and the GPU build reached 63 dB operating. On its feet the tower is 382.5 mm tall and 175 mm wide, with a depth of 579.72 mm including the bezel. Dell gives 25.10 kg as the maximum weight with every drive fitted.

Should I choose the T360, the T160 or the T560?

The T160 shares the T360’s processors and 128 GB memory ceiling in a smaller 3U tower, but its five drives are cabled internally and it has one cabled supply. The T360 adds hot-swap bays, redundant power and an A2 GPU option. The T560 moves to two Xeon Scalable sockets, 16 RDIMM slots and up to 24 drive bays.

What changed from the T350 to the T360?

The chassis dimensions are unchanged, but the T360 moves to DDR5 at up to 4400 MT/s (the T350 ran DDR4 at up to 3200 MT/s), gains a x16 Gen5 slot, NVMe front bays, BOSS-N1 and a one-GPU option the T350 lacked, and adds Xeon 6300 processors with up to 12 cores. Memory capacity stays at 128 GB.

Is the Dell PowerEdge T360 end of life?

The March 2025 revision (A06) of the T360 technical guide contains no end-of-sale or end-of-service date. What it does describe is Dell’s Post Standard Support service, which prolongs hardware cover for up to five more years after ProSupport’s initial seven-year span.
