01 — Overview

The XE7745 at a glance

Our read of Dell’s documentation: where the XE7745 is strong, and the limits worth knowing before you spec one.

Strengths

  • The largest host in Dell’s PCIe GPU pair: up to 192 Zen 5 cores per socket and 6 TB of DDR5, where the Intel XE7740 stops at 86 cores and 4 TB.
  • Memory always runs one DIMM per channel across twelve channels, up to 6400 MT/s, so filling every slot costs no speed on most processors.
  • The GPU list spans vendors and sizes: AMD Instinct MI350P and NVIDIA L40S, H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000 double-wide, or single-width L4 and RTX Pro 4500.
  • Every processor from the 300 W 9455 to the 500 W 9965 is cleared for 35°C on air, and so are the MI350P, H100 NVL, L40S and L4.
  • Eight Gen5 x16 adapter slots and an OCP 3.0 slot that can run as x8 + x8 multiroot (SNAP I/O) serve the cluster and front-end networks.

Watch-outs

  • The XE7745 guide documents no NVLink or other GPU bridge options, unlike the XE7740 guide, so bridge requirements need confirming with Dell.
  • Dell ties memory to GPU count: eight MI350P cards need at least 1.5 TB (24 × 64 GB), and 12 × 32 GB is validated only with two double-wide cards, four L40S or eight L4s.
  • The 256 GB modules that reach 6 TB limit the inlet to 30°C, as do the H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000.
  • Two processors, the 192-core 9965 and the 128-core 9755, run memory at 6000 MT/s rather than 6400 MT/s.
  • Storage is eight E3.S bays with no RAID controller, Dell states storage controllers are not supported in this release, and the system weighs up to 68.5 kg.

  • Dell’s table gives 64 integrated PCIe 5.0 lanes per processor in this system at 32 GT/s, and notes that the four Broadcom Atlas II switches support 144 lanes.
  • Processors link over up to four xGMI links at 32 GT/s.
  • Dell lists TDPs of 300 W (9455), 360 W (9555), 400 W (9575F, 9655, 9825, 9845) and 500 W (9755, 9965); all eight are rated for a 35°C inlet with a single heat sink type and HPR Platinum fans.
  • All eight run memory at 6400 MT/s except the 9965 and 9755, which are listed at 6000 MT/s; each supports 3 TB per socket.
  • AMD Secure Memory Encryption (SME) and Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) are listed among the platform’s security features.
03 — Memory

24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor

Twenty-four DDR5 RDIMM slots, one per channel across twelve channels per socket, so there is no two-DIMM-per-channel speed penalty to plan around. The 6 TB ceiling uses 256 GB modules, and Dell publishes a memory floor for each GPU type and count, such as 1,152 GB (12 × 96 GB) under a full set of H200 NVL, H100 NVL or RTX Pro 6000 cards.

  • For eight AMD MI350P cards Dell validates 24 × 64 GB (1.5 TB) and every larger layout, but not 12 × 96 GB, which it does accept for eight NVIDIA double-wide cards.
  • A 384 GB build (12 × 32 GB) is validated with two double-wide GPUs, four L40S or eight L4s; sixteen L4s need at least 768 GB (24 × 32 GB or 12 × 64 GB).
  • Dell warns that Not Validated combinations risk degraded GPU performance, fatal PCIe errors, or a system that will not power on or boot its OS.
  • All listed modules are dual-rank RDIMMs at 1.1 V and 6400 MT/s; UDIMMs are not supported, and the processor may lower the rated speed.
  • The July 2025 spec sheet quotes 3 TB; the September 2026 guide adds 256 GB RDIMMs and a 6 TB maximum.
04 — Storage

1 drive-bay layout, up to 8 bays

Eight EDSFF E3.S Gen5 NVMe bays at the front, direct-attached, with 122.88 TB as Dell’s maximum. The guide states that storage controllers are not supported in this release, so there is no PERC and no Dell software RAID, and the chassis has no rear drive bays.

GPUs, PCIe and networking

The GPUs sit on a PCIe Base Board with sixteen full-height, full-length Gen5 x16 slots (21–36), eight wired to each processor through two switches apiece. Dell lists seven accelerators: AMD Instinct MI350P and NVIDIA L40S, H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000 as double-wide cards, plus the single-width NVIDIA L4 and RTX Pro 4500. Eight double-wide cards of up to 600 W, sixteen L4s or eight RTX Pro 4500s; the XE7745 guide documents no GPU bridge options.

Dell’s table gives each EPYC 9005 processor 64 integrated PCIe 5.0 lanes here, and notes four Broadcom Atlas II switches supporting 144 lanes; the GPU slots hang off four switches on the PCIe Base Board. Alongside the GPU slots, eight full-height, half-length Gen5 x16 slots accept adapters drawing as much as 150 W; processor 0 owns slots 6–9 and processor 1 owns slots 1–4.

  • Dell’s slot mapping routes GPU slots 21 and 22 to processor 0 through the OCP NIC connector, via PBB switch 1.
  • Dell’s NIC port table covers add-in cards with one 400GbE port, two 200GbE ports or two 100GbE ports, and a dual-port 200GbE B3220 DPU; OCP options stop at two 100GbE ports.
  • With the B3220 DPU, DAC cabling is supported only up to 30°C ambient and AOC cabling not at all; OCP cards running at 100Gb or faster need optics or DAC rated for 85°C.
  • Only the OCP card in slot 5 can share the iDRAC connection as a shared LOM.

3 power supplies, 2,400–3,200 W

Eight 73.5 mm hot-plug supplies split between zones: PSUs 1–2 serve the CPU tray and PSUs 3–8 the GPU zone, and each zone must hold at least one for standby power. Full redundancy needs 1+1 and 3+3. Supply options are 3200 W Titanium, 2400 W Titanium, and a 3200 W unit for 277 V AC and 336 V DC.

  • On 2400 W supplies, eight 600 W cards (MI350P, H200 NVL or RTX Pro 6000) run only on all eight units in 8+0 or 7+1, and six of them cannot use 4+4 A/B grid either.
  • With four 3200 W supplies (one CPU-zone plus three GPU-zone), Dell’s matrix supports each GPU loadout only as non-redundant; PSU-redundant and A/B grid operation need eight.
  • The 3200 W unit is rated 2900 W on 200–220 V AC and 3200 W on 220.1–240 V AC; the 2400 W unit gives 1400 W on 100–120 V AC. Both take C19 leads.
  • Mixed PSU sub-vendors are not supported, there is no user power cap, and A/B grid keeps the system up through four supply losses at reduced performance.

The XE7745 and the Intel XE7740 share dimensions, the sixteen-slot GPU board and two-zone power; the XE7740 trades cores and capacity for 32 DIMM slots and Gaudi 3 support. Among Dell’s other EPYC 9005 systems, the 4U liquid-cooled XE9685L and the 10U air-cooled XE9785 use eight-GPU SXM or OAM boards instead, while the 2U R7725 takes up to two double-wide cards.

Eight Instinct MI350P cards with 144 GB each give 1,152 GB of GPU memory, hosted by the 64-core EPYC 9575F with its 5.0 GHz maximum clock. Dell does not validate 12 × 96 GB for eight MI350Ps, so this build uses 24 × 96 GB: 2,304 GB at 6400 MT/s.

What is the maximum memory of the Dell PowerEdge XE7745?

6 TB, using 24 DDR5 RDIMMs of 256 GB, one in each of the twelve channels per processor. Every configuration runs one DIMM per channel at up to 6400 MT/s, or 6000 MT/s with the EPYC 9965 and 9755. The 256 GB modules limit the inlet temperature to 30°C.

Which processors does the XE7745 take?

Eight AMD EPYC 9005 models, always in pairs: the 9455 (48 cores), 9555 and 9575F (64), 9655 (96), 9755 (128), 9825 (144), 9845 (160) and 9965 (192). TDPs run from 300 W to 500 W, and all are rated for 35°C inlet.

Which GPUs does the XE7745 support?

Up to eight double-wide cards at up to 600 W, either AMD Instinct MI350P or NVIDIA L40S, H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000, or single-width NVIDIA L4 (up to sixteen) and RTX Pro 4500 (up to eight). Dell’s PSU tables also mention Gaudi 3, but it is not in the XE7745’s GPU support list.

Does the XE7745 support NVLink bridges?

The XE7745 technical guide does not cover NVLink or other GPU bridges, whereas the XE7740 guide documents 2-way bridges for H100 NVL and 4-way bridges for H200 NVL. If bridged NVL cards matter to your design, we confirm support with Dell before quoting.

How much memory does the XE7745 need for eight GPUs?

Dell’s tables set minimums per card: eight MI350Ps need at least 1.5 TB (24 × 64 GB), a full set of NVIDIA H100 NVL, H200 NVL or RTX Pro 6000 cards needs 12 × 96 GB, 24 × 64 GB or more, and eight L40S need at least 768 GB (24 × 32 GB or 12 × 64 GB). Dell warns that unvalidated layouts can stop the system booting.

How many network slots does the XE7745 have?

Beyond the GPU board there are eight half-length, full-height Gen5 x16 slots, each able to power a 150 W adapter, plus a Gen5 OCP 3.0 slot that can work as x8 + x8 with SNAP I/O. Network options in Dell’s port table reach a single 400GbE port or two 200GbE ports per add-in card, and there is a two-port 200GbE B3220 DPU.

What power supplies does the XE7745 use?

Eight hot-plug units: two in the CPU zone and six in the GPU zone, at least one per zone. Choose 2400 W Titanium, 3200 W Titanium (which drops to 2900 W below 220 V), or the 277 V AC / 336 V DC version of the 3200 W unit. Full redundancy and A/B grid need all eight.

How big and heavy is the XE7745?

The XE7745 is 4U: 174.3 mm tall and 482 mm wide, with a depth of 899.56 mm including the bezel or 886.73 mm without. It weighs up to 68.5 kg (151.02 lb), which is above Dell’s 121 lb threshold for using a server lift.

How does the XE7745 differ from the XE7740?

The XE7745 runs AMD EPYC 9005, with as many as 192 cores per socket, 24 DIMM slots and a 6 TB ceiling, and adds the MI350P and RTX Pro 4500 to the GPU list. The XE7740 uses Intel Xeon 6 with up to 86 cores and 32 slots for 4 TB, supports Gaudi 3 and documents NVLink bridges. Dimensions, GPU slots and power zones are the same.

Is the Dell PowerEdge XE7745 end of life?

The XE7745 guide (Rev. A09, September 2026) lists neither an end-of-sale nor an end-of-support date. Dell’s dates appear in our end-of-life checker once they are published.
