Watch-outs
!No rear drive bays in any riser configuration, and no software RAID — the S160 option of the R7625 is gone.
!Double-width GPUs need riser configuration RC4 and the GPU shroud. Dell’s GPU tables mark them N/A with the 8 × 2.5-inch Universal, 24 × 2.5-inch and 40 × E3.S fronts, and leave the 12 × 3.5-inch front out altogether.
!The 500 W EPYC 9965 and 9755 need T-type heat sinks with HPR Platinum fans, and become liquid-cooled only once double-width GPUs are fitted.
!The RTX Pro 6000 and MI350P are held to 30°C inlet in every double-width layout except no backplane, and the H200 NVL behind the 16 + 8 NVMe front; Dell also caps the H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000 at 450 W instead of 600 W.
!Fresh-air sites are tightly limited: most per-layout ASHRAE tables stop at 240 W processors for A3 and 195 W for A4 (the 32 × E3.S table allows none), a general fresh-air list says under 180 W, and GPUs and DIMMs of 64 GB or more are excluded.

Dell lists twenty EPYC 9005 SKUs for the R7725, from the 8-core 9015 at 125 W to the 192-core 9965 at 500 W. All are rated for 6 TB of memory; the 9535 and 9455 run it at 6000 MT/s, every other SKU at 6400 MT/s. The chart plots each part by cores and TDP. The three highest base clocks in the table belong to F-suffix parts, led by the 16-core 9175F at 4.2 GHz.

TDPs follow Dell’s processor table. Its CPU thermal matrix prints two of them differently (the 9475F as 360 W and the 9575F as 320 W, against 400 W in the processor table).
The 9965 and 9755 (500 W) are air-cooled with the 1U T-type heat sink and HPR Platinum fans; in double-width GPU layouts Dell marks both as DLC only.
With double-width GPUs, the 320–400 W SKUs become 30°C parts behind the 16 × 2.5-inch and 16 + 8 NVMe fronts; the 9275F is DLC only there and a 30°C part with the 8 × E3.S or diskless fronts.
The 9535 and 9455 appear in the processor table but not in the CPU thermal matrix, so Dell gives no per-layout cooling guidance for either.
All six riser configurations list two processors; the guide’s only single-processor reference is a fan note (three fan modules for one processor, six for two).
EPYC 9005 keeps the SP5 socket of the 9004 series. Each processor offers up to 128 high-speed I/O lanes; the processor chapter gives 32 Gbps as the peak xGMI3 speed.
03 — Memory
24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor
Twenty-four DDR5 RDIMM slots, twelve per socket, so each of the EPYC 9005’s twelve memory channels carries exactly one DIMM. Dell rates every module it lists, 16 GB to 256 GB, at 6400 MT/s in that one-per-channel population, which means capacity is set by module size alone, up to 6 TB.

The memory chapter gives the ceiling as 6.14 TB and the spec sheet as 6 TB; 24 slots × 256 GB comes to 6,144 GB.
CXL 2.0 (Type 3 memory devices only, riser configuration RC3 or RC7): Dell’s table totals 3,072 GB with 96 GB DIMMs plus two cards of 4 × 96 GB, and 8,192 GB with 256 GB DIMMs plus four cards of 4 × 128 GB. Its native-DIMM columns print 12 modules (1,152 GB and 3,072 GB), yet both totals add up only with all 24 slots filled, which the table’s own fully-populated rule also calls for.
CXL rules: native DIMM slots fully populated, at least four DIMMs per card, no more than two cards per processor, and no 256 GB modules on a card for thermal reasons.
For AMD Instinct MI350P builds Dell requires four or more DIMMs per processor, and it suggests system memory of 1.5–2× total GPU memory — 423–564 GB for two H200 NVL cards, for example.
NUMA can be set to NPS1 (the default), NPS2, NPS4 or, on two-socket systems, NPS0 — one domain for the whole machine. Not every SKU supports NPS2 or NPS4.
The ASHRAE restrictions for the 32 × E3.S front print “DIMM ≥ 96G are not supported” in the A2 column; the memory thermal matrix does not repeat it, so confirm before pairing that front with 96 GB or larger modules.
04 — Storage
9 drive-bay layouts, up to 40 bays
Ten front configurations and no rear bays. The R7725 runs from a diskless chassis through 12 × 3.5-inch, 16- and 24-bay 2.5-inch SAS/SATA, an 8-bay Universal and a 16 + 8 mixed front, to EDSFF E3.S fronts of 8, 16, 32 or 40 NVMe drives. Internal hardware RAID comes from front PERCs, which leave every PCIe slot free.

Dell’s drive table lists 2.5-inch NVMe and E3.S drives up to 61.44 TB, so a full 40 × E3.S front reaches 2,457.6 TB raw.

GPUs, PCIe and networking
Accelerators go in the PCIe risers. Dell lists seven cards: the single-width NVIDIA L4 and six double-width parts — H100 NVL, H200 NVL, L40S, A16, RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Server Edition and AMD Instinct MI350P. The front layout decides whether double-width cards are allowed at all, and the guide’s tables disagree on two fronts: the CPU matrix gives 16 and 32 × E3.S no double-width column, while the GPU matrix rates double-width cards with both. Up to two double-width GPUs at 450 W (slots 2 and 7, riser configuration RC4), or up to six single-width 75 W cards.

Redirecting the BMC to a shared NIC works only through the embedded OCP slot (slot 10 in Dell’s NIC comparison; the OCP feature table prints slot 5).
Add-in cards: up to eight PCIe cards, including 2 × 200 GbE (configurable as 1 × 400 GbE), 2 × 100 GbE and 2 × 25 GbE NICs, and up to two FC64 or FC32 HBAs.
DPUs: NVIDIA BlueField-3 B3220 (2 × 200 GbE, 150 W) and B3240 (1 × 400 GbE), both in slots 2 and 7; the B3140H is listed as not available at launch.
Dell’s thermal notes call for DAC or 85°C-rated active optics on 25 GbE and faster PCIe and OCP cards.
06 — Power & cooling
11 power supplies, 800–3,200 W
The R7725 runs two hot-plug supplies as a 1+1 redundant pair, chosen from eleven M-CRPS units in 60 mm and 73.5 mm sizes. Ordinary AC options span 800 W Platinum to 3200 W Titanium; high-voltage sites can use a 1500 W or 3200 W model rated for 277 VAC or 336 VDC, and telco rooms a 1400 W model fed from −48 to −60 VDC.
AC277 VAC / HVDC
Low-line (100–120 V) output: 1400 W from the 2400 W Titanium and 1050 W from the 1500 W and 1100 W units. The 1800 W and 3200 W AC supplies are rated for high line only.
Dell’s rating table gives the 3200 W AC unit 2900 W at 200–240 V and its full 3200 W at 220.1–240 V, so check the feed voltage before counting on the top figure.
Leads differ by unit: C19 for the 3200 W and 2400 W Titanium, C16 for 1800 W, C13 for 1500 W and below, APP/Saf-D-Grid for the 277 V units and a DC cable for −48 V.
In Dell’s acoustic test of a GPU build — two double-width cards at up to 450 W and two 100 GbE OCP adapters — the supplies were 3200 W units.
Pair identical supplies. If the two differ at boot, the system enables only the higher-wattage unit and flags a mismatch in BIOS or iDRAC; one hot-added later stays disabled unless its rating equals the unit already running.

Dell names virtualisation as a key R7725 workload. Two 96-core 9655s give 192 cores, and a 96 GB module on each of the 24 channels puts 2.25 TB behind them at 6400 MT/s. Sixteen E3.S Gen5 drives hold the datastore; Dell’s matrix clears the 400 W 9655 for this front with HPR Gold fans at 35°C.

Two NVIDIA H200 NVL cards bring 282 GB of GPU memory. On the 8 × E3.S front Dell rates both the cards and the 360 W 9555 for 35°C inlet, and 768 GB of system memory sits above its 423–564 GB guideline for this pair. Dell’s own GPU test configuration also used 3200 W supplies and 100 GbE OCP networking.

Dell runs the H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000 at a 450 W cap in this chassis. With the 16 × 2.5-inch + 8 × NVMe front the H200 NVL drops to 30°C, and the RTX Pro 6000 and MI350P are 30°C parts in every double-width layout except no backplane. The RTX Pro 6000 also needs a puck cable.
HPC is on Dell’s key-workload list, and two EPYC 9965s put 384 Zen5 cores into 2U with 24 channels of DDR5-6400 behind them. The no-backplane chassis drops local data drives altogether: the OS boots from BOSS-N1 and jobs reach shared storage over a 2 × 200 GbE OCP adapter.

On air the 500 W 9965 needs the heat sink Dell’s CPU matrix calls 1U T-type (T-wing in its ASHRAE tables) and HPR Platinum fans, and Dell lists it as DLC only if double-width GPUs are added. Cards of 25 GbE and above need DAC or 85°C-rated active optics.
For per-core-licensed databases, the 16-core 9175F combines a 4.2 GHz base clock with 512 MB of cache per processor, so two sockets give 32 licensable cores. Eight NVMe drives on the Universal backplane hold data and logs, and Dell also lists a 16 × SAS/SATA + 8 × NVMe front that it labels NVMe RAID.

What is the maximum memory of the Dell PowerEdge R7725?
Twenty-four DDR5 RDIMM slots — twelve per socket, one on each memory channel — give the R7725 a 6 TB ceiling when every slot holds a 256 GB module. Dell also documents CXL 2.0 Type 3 memory cards that take total system memory to 8,192 GB in riser configuration RC3 or RC7.
Which processors does the R7725 support?
Twenty 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 SKUs, always in pairs: from the 8-core 9015 at 125 W to the 192-core 9965 at 500 W. The 9575F and 9175F reach a 5.0 GHz maximum clock, and the 160-core 9845 and 144-core 9825 are both 390 W parts.
How many drive bays does the R7725 have?
Up to 40 EDSFF E3.S Gen5 NVMe bays at the front. Other layouts include 24 × 2.5-inch SAS/SATA, 16 × 2.5-inch SAS/SATA plus 8 × NVMe, 8 × 2.5-inch Universal and 12 × 3.5-inch SAS/SATA. No configuration has rear drive bays.
How many GPUs does the R7725 support?
Two double-width GPUs at up to 450 W, or six single-width cards. Dell lists the NVIDIA L4, L40S, A16, H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Server Edition, plus the AMD Instinct MI350P. Double-width cards need riser configuration RC4 and are marked N/A with the 8 × 2.5-inch Universal, 24 × 2.5-inch and 40 × E3.S fronts.
How many PCIe slots does the R7725 have?
Up to eight PCIe Gen5 slots, x8 or x16, depending on which of six riser configurations is fitted, plus two OCP NIC 3.0 slots. Slots 2 and 7 take full-length double-width cards, and each processor supplies up to 128 lanes of high-speed I/O.
What power supplies are available for the R7725?
Two hot-plug units in a 1+1 pair. AC choices run from an 800 W Platinum to a 3200 W Titanium; Dell also offers 1500 W and 3200 W versions that accept 277 VAC or 336 VDC, plus a 1400 W supply for −48 to −60 VDC telco power. At 100–120 V the 2400 W unit is rated 1400 W and the 1500 W and 1100 W units 1050 W.
How big and heavy is the PowerEdge R7725?
Dell gives a height of 86.8 mm, a width of 482.0 mm and a depth of 801.51 mm, or 802.4 mm once the bezel is on. Its weight table runs from 24.33 kg for the 8 × E3.S build to 31.8 kg for 24 × 2.5-inch drives; for 12 × 3.5-inch it prints 36.1 kg next to 69.67 lb, two figures that do not match. Its comparison table instead quotes a 25.1 kg maximum, the weight table’s no-backplane figure.
How does the R7725 differ from the R7725xd?
The R7725xd is the storage-dense variant: an NVMe-only front of 24 × 2.5-inch U.2 Gen5 or 40 × E3.S/E3.L drives, no RAID controllers, one Gen3 x4 OCP slot, up to five PCIe slots, no GPUs, air cooling only and a 3 TB memory limit. The R7725 keeps GPUs, eight Gen5 slots, two OCP slots, DLC and 6 TB.
What changed from the R7625 to the R7725?
Dell’s comparison has the R7725 moving from 4th Gen EPYC with up to 128 cores to EPYC 9005 with up to 192, memory from 4800 to 6400 MT/s, Gen5 slots from four to eight and double-width GPU power from 300 W to 450 W. Rear drive bays and S160 software RAID are dropped, and iDRAC9 gives way to iDRAC10.
Is the Dell PowerEdge R7725 end of life?
No date appears in the R7725 guide for end of sale or end of service. What it does describe is Post Standard Support, an option adding as much as five further years of hardware support after ProSupport’s initial seven-year term.
