The R760xs is the leaner 2U two-socket PowerEdge for 4th and 5th Gen Xeon: the same 21 processors and 16-slot memory as the 1U R660xs, with room for 24 × 2.5-inch or 12 × 3.5-inch drives, six PCIe slots and two single-wide NVIDIA A2 GPUs. +Storage breadth the 1U siblings cannot match: 24 front 2.5-inch bays (16 SAS/SATA plus 8 NVMe, up to 244.48 TB), or 8 or 12 × 3.5-inch bays up to 288 TB.
+Six PCIe slots with two processors — two Gen5 slots on the riser and four Gen4 — against three on the R660xs.
+Room for two single-wide NVIDIA A2 GPUs, which the R750xs before it could not take at all.
+Shorter than the full R760: 721.62 mm with the bezel against 772.13 mm.
+Air cooling only, so there is no liquid loop to plumb, and the supply list runs from a 600 W unit that keeps full output on 100–120 V to an 1800 W high-line model.
Watch-outs
!Memory stops at 1.5 TB: sixteen slots at one DIMM per channel, half the thirty-two of the full R760.
!The 12 × 3.5-inch chassis carries the most caveats: no A2 GPUs, no 100 GbE adapters or 100 Gb OCP, no quad-port 25GbE OCP cards, and 30°C limits for the 250 W processor and 96 GB DIMMs.
!Rear drives go only behind the 12 × 3.5-inch front, so the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis cannot add any.
!Only one cable riser can be fitted at a time, and the two Gen5 slots exist only on risers 1C and 1D.
!The OCP 3.0 slot is x8 (the R750xs had x16) and SNAPI is not supported; Dell’s OCP feature table stops at 25 GbE, although its slot-priority tables also name a 100 Gb Intel OCP card.

The processor table matches the R660xs name for name — 21 SKUs, thirteen from the 4th Gen Scalable line (to 32 cores) and eight from 5th Gen (to 28) — but the TDP range here runs from 125 W up to 250 W, because this guide rates the 6414U at 250 W. On every 2.5-inch front, Dell’s ambient table keeps each listed processor at 35°C or higher.

Dell’s table has N/A in the UPI column for the 5512U; every other SKU shows 16 or 20 GT/s.
This guide gives the 6414U a 250 W TDP and the 4514Y 12 cores; the R660xs guide prints 185 W and 16 cores for the same two SKUs.
The processor table has no thread column and marks turbo only as present, so neither threads nor boost clocks are shown.

The memory layout copies the R660xs: 16 DDR5 RDIMM slots, eight on each processor and one per channel, for up to 1.5 TB with 96 GB modules. Dell’s memory matrix pairs every capacity from 16 GB to 96 GB with either a 4800 or a 5600 MT/s rating.

Dell’s inside view shows the front PERC mounted behind the drive backplane, and the guide says this fPERC design uses no PCIe slot; the H755N is the NVMe-only choice, and S160 software RAID works under Windows only.
BOSS-N1 is fully hot-plug in this chassis, and fitting it calls for an HPR Gold fan in zone 1.
Kioxia CM6, Samsung PM1735 and Redtail NVMe drives, among others, are barred from the rear module.
Under ASHRAE A3 or A4 the rear drives and BOSS are unsupported, the 12 × 3.5-inch chassis is excluded altogether, and the other drive fronts are limited to A3.

NVIDIA A2 is the only GPU Dell lists: up to two single-wide cards, placed in slots 3, 4 or 6. Dell’s feature table describes the A2 as a 60 W low-profile card, while its overview counts two 75 W single-wide GPUs. Mellanox NDR400 adapters need the two-processor R1C riser and go only in slots 4 and 3; CX7 NDR200 cards are held to specific Gen5 and Gen4 slots.
With the 12 × 3.5-inch front, PCIe cards needing more than 300 LFM at 55°C are unsupported and the H965e is limited to slot 3.
Dell’s slot tables list the optional serial port module against slot 2, but a note in the same guide says it is not a true PCIe card and has its own system-board position.

Power comes from a 1+1 pair of 60 mm hot-plug supplies, and the choice of nine is identical to the 1U R660xs list: seven AC models spanning 600 W to 1800 W, plus −48 V DC and 277 VAC/336 VDC models.

Where only 100–120 V is available, the 1100 W and 1400 W AC models give 1050 W, the 600 W and 800 W models lose nothing, and the high-line-only 700 W and 1800 W models cannot be used.
C13 leads serve every mixed-mode model up to 1400 W; the 1800 W model takes C15 (or C13 plus a C14-to-C15 jumper), the −48 V DC model a Lotes connector, and the 277 VAC/336 VDC model Dell’s APP 2006G1 cord.
Dell’s acoustic tests put the quietest build (one 125 W processor, eight 2.5-inch bays) at 32 dB idle, the 12 × 3.5-inch build at 56 dB idle and the A2 GPU build at 64 dB when working.
Fan speed in the 3.5-inch chassis is capped at 90% because of the drives’ dynamic profile.
Extended-ambient (A3/A4) operation needs both supplies and does not tolerate a supply failure.

Two single-wide NVIDIA A2 cards serve GPU-backed desktops, with 64 cores from a pair of 6448Y processors behind them. The eight-bay 2.5-inch front keeps the A2 rated to 35°C, where the 16- and 24-bay fronts pull it down to 30°C.

Quad-port 25GbE OCP cards need optical transceivers rated to at least 85°C. At 205 W the 5520+ is limited to a 35°C inlet.

What is the maximum memory of the Dell PowerEdge R760xs?
The R760xs has 16 DDR5 RDIMM slots — eight per processor, one per channel — and reaches 1.5 TB with 16 × 96 GB. That is half the slot count of the full R760, which takes 32 DIMMs.
How many drive bays does the R760xs have?

Height is 86.8 mm (2U) and width 482 mm. From rack ears to PSU handles it measures 685.78 mm, or 721.62 mm with the bezel on. Fully populated weights run from 19.40 kg for the diskless chassis to 28.82 kg for twelve 3.5-inch drives; the spec sheet quotes a 28.6 kg maximum instead.
How does the R760xs differ from the R760?
The R760 has 32 DIMM slots and lists 256 GB modules, processors up to 64 cores and 350 W, E3.S drives and up to four rear 2.5-inch bays, up to eight Gen4 or four Gen5 slots, two 350 W double-wide or six single-wide GPUs, supplies to 3200 W and optional liquid cooling. The R760xs is 50.51 mm shorter with the bezel and air-cooled only.
How does it compare with the R660xs and R760xd2?
The R660xs is the 1U version of the same recipe — the same 21 processors and 16 DIMM slots — but with three PCIe slots, no GPUs and at most 12 × 2.5-inch drives, or four 3.5-inch plus two rear 2.5-inch. The R760xd2 is a deeper storage server with 24 × 3.5-inch bays plus four rear, processors capped at 185 W and Gen4-only PCIe.
What does Dell compare the R760xs with next?
