What is the maximum memory of the Dell PowerEdge R760?
The R760 has 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots. With 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors it reaches 8 TB using 32 × 256 GB RDIMMs. Dell lists 256 GB DIMMs with 5th Gen Xeon as a future release, so a 5th Gen R760 tops out at 4 TB today using 32 × 128 GB.
What memory speed does the R760 run at?
With 4th Gen Xeon, DDR5 runs at 4800 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and 4400 MT/s with two. With 5th Gen, Dell’s R760 guide lists 6400/5600 MT/s-rated DIMMs at one DIMM per channel and 4400 MT/s with two; its R770 comparison gives the R760 as up to 5600 MT/s. Use 16 DIMMs, one per channel, to keep the highest speed.
How many PCIe slots does the R760 have?
Up to eight PCIe Gen4 slots or up to four PCIe Gen5 slots, depending on which of Dell’s seventeen riser configurations is fitted. Each processor provides 80 lanes of PCIe 5.0, plus an OCP NIC 3.0 slot.
Which processors does the R760 support?
Dell lists 51: 33 4th Gen Xeon Scalable, 4 Xeon Max and 14 5th Gen Xeon Scalable, from 8 to 64 cores and 125 W to 350 W. Parts at 250 W and above need the MAX system board, and the Xeon Max 9480 and 9470, Platinum 8470Q and Gold 6458Q are liquid-cooled only.
How big and heavy is the PowerEdge R760?
It is a 2U server measuring 86.8 mm high, 482 mm wide and 772.13 mm deep with the bezel (758.29 mm without). It weighs up to 36.1 kg fully populated with drives, or 25.1 kg without drives and power supplies.
What changed from the R760 to the R770?
The R770 moves to Intel Xeon 6 with up to 86 P-cores or 144 E-cores per processor, DDR5 at up to 6400 MT/s, up to 40 front EDSFF E3.S bays, double-wide GPUs at 450 W rather than 350 W, up to two OCP slots, and iDRAC10.
How do the R760, R760xs, R760xd2 and R760xa differ?
The R760 is the full-featured model. The R760xs trims it to 16 DIMM slots and processors of up to 32 cores for cost-sensitive builds. The R760xd2 is the storage-dense variant, and the R760xa is built around GPU density. The family chart on this page compares their documented limits side by side.
Does the R760 support 277 V or DC power?
Yes. Dell offers 1400 W and 3200 W Titanium supplies for 277 VAC and 336 VDC HVDC, and an 1100 W supply for −48 to −60 V DC telco racks. At 100–120 V low line the 2400 W Platinum supply delivers 1400 W, and the 1400 W Platinum and 1100 W Titanium units deliver 1050 W.
Can the R760 use Intel Xeon Max with HBM?
Yes. Four Xeon Max SKUs are supported, each with 64 GB of on-package high-bandwidth memory. They run in HBM-only, flat or cache mode, and the 9480 and 9470 require direct liquid cooling.
Is the Dell PowerEdge R760 end of life?
