About the ThinkSystem SR780a V3

The Lenovo ThinkSystem SR780a V3 is a 5U rack platform purpose-built for large-scale AI. At its core is an NVIDIA HGX 8-GPU baseboard — the same architecture used in hyperscale AI clusters — available with HGX B200 (180 GB HBM3e per GPU, up to 1.44 TB pooled), HGX H200 (141 GB) or HGX H100. All eight accelerators are linked by 8-way NVLink, so the complex behaves as a single, coherent training resource rather than eight separate cards.

Two 4th- or 5th-Gen Intel Xeon Platinum processors feed the GPUs, with up to 112 cores and 32 TruDDR5-5600 DIMM slots for as much as 4 TB of system memory — enough to keep data pipelines saturated during multi-node training. NVIDIA ConnectX-7 400G adapters and BlueField-3 DPUs provide the east-west fabric for scaling across a pod.

What sets the SR780a V3 apart is Lenovo Neptune direct-water cooling on both the GPU and CPU complex. Removing heat with liquid rather than air lets the eight 1000 W-class GPUs run at sustained clocks in dense racks, cutting fan power and data-centre cooling load.
